Does anyone watch any British wrestling?

Do they have local stuff that they put on TV?

I was talking to an old forumer today and he was telling me about this match he watched, which was British (see this subject). Anyway, he said the match was for ONE FALL FIVE ROUNDS. He then played some of it for me (the audio) and it sounded pretty amazing. I doubt any British wrestling is like this now. But just the whole feel of it was incredible. It was like a boxing match or MMA fight. It was all business.

Hearing the ring bell after each round was cool too. You felt like you were witnessing a real contest. I think that's what wrestling is missing the most now. That feeling that two guys are really fighting. Instead, it's all about Stephanies underwear.

But anyway, I'd be interested to hear about any British wrestling anyone can tell me about. If this whole rounds thing happens there typically or what.

It's very old school in that when British wrestling used to be on network TV over here matches had a bell go and have breaks between rounds. The style of wrestling used to be "catch as catch can" style and bought through Dynamite Kid, Fit Finlay and William Regal among others. To a much lesser extent the British Bulldog himself.

Personally I'm not a fan of it. At the most recent "big show" in Britain, which was booked by FWA promoter Alex Shane, they tried all sorts of different match styles and the only one which wasn't received very well was this old school British match (although granted they bought in two old performers from the 70's/80's to play it out!!).

I couldn't see it catching on with the WWE audience, but it may be something that (with the right individuals) TNA could try out and make a success of.

I don't know, I didn't actually see any of it.

I just liked the level of seriousness that was applied to the sport. "Sport" if you will. It wasn't a gimmick fest, it was something that you could get involved in and relax to.
