Do you actually think Ultimate X is worth it's Salt?
Im going to start by saying Ive only seen a few ultimate X matches, maybe 4. Ive seen all the highlight videos however.
Now saying that, I actually think the match is kinda sucky. You always here how the Ultimate X is this "epic" and a lot of that is self advertising from TNA, but how many of you actually believe it?
Im not saying the match isnt okay/good sometimes, and some spots are cool but seriously. Sometimes you get 25 second set up spots that fall flat and look not nearly as impressive as they were meant to. Other times you get guys hanging from the cables, their feet 3-4 feet of the ring, and get pulled down. Other times you just get re-used spots everyone has seen before.
Its just not that impressive IMO. The same can be said about KOTM too, but this specifically is always promoted. The fact that they claim its more dangerous then a ladder match is a joke too.
Just wanted to see if it was just me. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I think because these concepts are unique in wrestling (well King of the Mountain not so much) they promote is as such and I think they have every right to, what gimmick match has been created that actually worked since Ultimate X? The Ultimate X with the entire steel structure above is a nice add-on I guess.
Re: Do you actually think Ultimate X is worth it's Salt?
It's hardly a unique concept. The point of the match is to grap a belt or a comical giant X. That's make it pretty similar to a ladder match then. On;ly the wires are fixed, so you're limited to what you can do in the match.
Entertaining gimmick, but hardly innovative, certainly not 7 years after it's debut.

Did you see the last one? I'd rather be in a TLC match every day for a week than be in that Ultimate X. I cringed so much worrying for the safety of the wrestlers.
Ultimate X was a great modification to the ladder match, but they just whored it out too much. According to Wiki, there's been 18 of them. That's roughly 2 and a half per year. It was fine at first having a few per year, but that was when the match was still new. So it still felt fresh. The main reason for ordering Final Resolution 2005 on PPV was to see Ultimate X 6. I had only seen the first two prior to that, so I felt as if I was getting my money's worth. These days, it feels very random. Take a look at the very last one. MCMG vs Lethal Consequences. It took place at the first iMPACT after Bound For Glory, which had a last minute Ultimate X title match. So why would I pay money for something I get on free so soon after it was on Pay Per View?
But in the year that I dreaded seeing a ladder match in the WWE, I couldn't get enough of seeing Ultimate X develop in it's first year.

Yep, pretty much. Same with Six Sides of Steel. Both used to be great special attractions. Now, they're regular, run of the mill matches in TNA. Disappointingly, they've started doing the same with Monsters Ball this year.

For those who are into the countless, no pacing, flip after flip, psychology banned style that is involved in most of the X Division and the Ultimate X this is better than the one time every 7 years that most wrestling fans get laid.
Personally, I absolutely hate it. Ladder matches are far superior because you can blend in unreal spots while actually attempting to tell a story. (Although more times than not, the story is lost.)
Re: Do you actually think Ultimate X is worth it's Salt?
I liked the ladder match Christian and Kaz had back in the day that match was so amazing, it's not like you can do a 1on1 match ultimate x, it's always with multiple guys and I think that's why TNA does so many: to put as many in as possible, same with the steel asylum match.

To be fair, part of the reason is TLC is WWE, and WWE have fewer ridiculous life endangering spots. TNA has ridiculous risks that garbage indies have that risk the live of the wrestlers far more than your basic spot. Look at Full Metal Mayhem. They have over the top ridiculous spots too. It's not the match type but the company, I'd say.
Ultimate X isn't a great match but it is a fun match that get fans hyped up for the show. They're usually decent but like said, they are really whored out.

Re: Do you actually think Ultimate X is worth it's Salt?
The quailtiy has slipped over the years, but it's still a match I look forward to, not just as much as I could though, due to the fact they have done far to many. It's a problem with all there gimmick matches, they do them far to much and it kills the special feel that comes with them. KOTM is really the only signature match they have done a good job of containing to a one show specialty match. My ideal situation would be to do UX once a year at BFG, and keep all Six Sides Of Steel matches on Lockdown.
