Obviously on the face of it this sounds like a stupid question. It obviously makes good business sense to involve MMA in TNA and thus attract the crossover fanbase right? TNA have used MMA in their product a lot in recent years, from Joe's title win in an MMA Style match at Lockdown 2007, to Frank Trigg and Tito Ortiz's appearances, to the TNA vs MMA match at Bound For Glory last night, to Kim Couture's appearance attacking Tara. It makes sense because they have several wrestlers who are in MMA or interested in getting into it, and it is an obvious attempt to gain interest in the product by inviting MMA fans to tune in.
The problem is, I doubt there is a very big crossover between MMA and TNA fans. MMA fans like MMA because it's real and legit. Maybe a more realistic wrestling product, though staged, would appeal to them, but TNA is the very opposite of this, and I can't imagine many MMA fans seeing it as anything but a joke. TNA is about ridiculous, over the top spots and angles and overly choreographed and unrealistic matches. I doubt many MMA fans are entertained by what they see or likely to tune in to TNA again, even if they watch out of curiosity one time because MMA is involved in some way.
Basically, I would have thought TNA style booking is one of the things that has driven many away from wrestling in search of something for legit and credible. There is no use trying to win over MMA fans by involving MMA in the product, if everything else is going to remain so ridiculous and unrealistic. I wouldn't mind if they actually made an attempt to put out a more realistic and gritty product in general, but they do the opposite. I just don't see the logic in that.

TNA's style of booking almost admits wrestling is scripted.
So to talk about MMA is fine for them, and almost the fact Tara and Lashley are MMA fighters simply appeals to them as another market, which WWE wont touch.
It'd be stupid not to try to capitolize on MMA's popularity. TNA offers a more athletic and most of the time less goofy style than WWE. So maybe some MMA fans would like that.

I'd say TNA's product is far less credible than WWE's and way more "goofy" and over the top. Stuff like Foley vs Abyss for example is a fucking joke. I can't see any MMA fan watching that without thinking..."wow...wrestling is fucking laughable".

Yeah right Tommy. The WWE rendition of two guys pretending to punch each other to an excess that if it were real they would kill each other, is way way more believable then when TNA does it.
Do you actually believe a real MMA fighter or fan is going to see one as less fake and ridiculous then the other? Do you really think that they are going to buy the Undetraker landing 10 strait right hands to someones face and them not being knocked out and in a coma? Do you truely believe that demergraphic is going to see any difference what so ever between the two?
Come on man! Wrestling fans know the difference but outside of us its all the same 'fake fighting' to everyone else, specifically the MMA world. Im not trolling you, Im just saying look beyond the wrestling fans eyes and try seeing from anougher angle.
Truely the idea an MMA fan would accept the WWE as more 'believable' then TNA is To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

Um... why do you act as if it's just the WWE that is a worked fight? Pro wrestling is worked fighting. You can go back in time and see it started as to guys more or less bare knuckle boxing with pulled punches in a worked scenario. MMA came from pro wrestling when they just stopped doing fixed outcomes. Please, learn to know what the fuck you are talking about in future.
TNA is tapping into the rising popularity of MMA, which is smart, though I doubt they would ever get someone like Money Mayweather to have a worked match for them.
No MMA fan would see the X-Division or hardcore matches TNA run as even close to believable. Hell, TNA fans themselves don't.

That is exactly what I was saying Steve. They are both as worked as each other (the WWE and TNA). So is ROH, ECW,WCW and all the independents.
What Im saying is how the fuck can Tommy say that MMA fans will see one as more believable then the other? They are all worked, MMA fans wont judge one more realistic then the other.
If Im the one your refering too, not knowing what the fuck Im talking about, you got things dead wrong and should re read what I have written, because it totally agrees with you.
However to say MMA came from pro wrestling is a joke. It came from the joining of martial arts, some 1000's of years old. How can you possibly say MMA is from pro wrestling?
...because it actually did? It started in Japan with shoot-style promotions like UWF, PWFG and RINGS which did worked fights but were presented as legit contests with real strikes and submissions. The style is pretty much dead because it offshooted and they stopped "working" the fights. Look it up on wiki or something. MMA came from pro wrestling in Japan.

lol @ new confrontational posting style despite knowing fuck all.
I never claimed WWE wasn't a work, I never even claimed MMA fans would enjoy WWE necessarily, but a lot of MMA fans used to be wrestling fans before they wanted a more legitimate product, and if they would enjoy any wrestling, it would definitely be something more believable than the over the stop stunts shows TNA put on.

Tommy I have never known someone more gloriously and consistently wrong than you.
The difference between WWE ant TNA stunts are so insignificant to MMA fans that they wouldnt even notice the difference between the two.
I never said you thought WWE was real. If you have the time to post 50 times a day maybe you should find the time to read my posts all the way through before telling me I " know fuck all".
