With TNA possibly retiring at the upcoming Bound For Glory PPV, I thought I would make a thread for people to discuss his contribution to TNA Wrestling since he was first signed in 2003. Obviously Sting is easily one of the biggest names to have wrestled in the company and his signing was one of those high profile signings which were necessary for TNA to reach the next level, but overall, do you think he has been nothing but good for the company, or has he been selfish and held back talent?
Personally I think that, while he is a huge name in wrestling and it was obvious that TNA would want such names to be associated with their product in order for it to grow, Sting has been pretty bad in a lot of ways. Firstly the company hasn't really grown as much as they would have liked, although that's more down to retarded booking. Secondly, in terms of match quality he has pretty much sucked, though he's always been overrated from what I've seen. Thirdly, he has taken the spotlight way too much and I basically see him as TNA's Triple H. The guy has not only main evented the last 3 Bound For Glory events, but he has won the title in all 3 of them (vs Jarrett in 2006, vs Angle in 2007 and vs Joe in 2008). Why must the biggest show on the TNA calendar always be the Sting show? The win over Angle (only for Sting to pointlessly lose the belt back to Angle at the next Impact tapings, completely cheapening "their Wrestlemania") convinced me that it's actually in Sting's contract that he has to win at BFG. That is pretty bad.
So...what have been the pros and cons of Sting's TNA career as far as the company and the product are concerned? Has he had a positive or negative influence overall?

Pros: Ummm showing WWE that he doesn't need them, his vet status in the wrestling business.
Cons: He's had pointless title shots as you said only to lose it the next night at the tapings. He's getting way to old to be IN the ring and it makes me wanna change the channel. He gets way to much TV time for pointless shit that could be used make other meaningful matches longer. He gets paid the most for doing the least about of work while a lot of the younger guys who work house shows and do fan fest make half of what he does. The guys who ACTUALLY need to money for them to not be poor and live in their car.

Well he puts over the younger talent that should be being pushed whereas some of the vets in TNA just like putting themselves over and keeping titles between themselves.
Yes he's getting old but he's still managing to have a few good matches.

There's been Abyss and Morgan came off better in his feud with Sting and he'll probably put AJ over at BFG.

From what I've been told, when talking about how shit Sting is, he made a significant impact when he signed with TNA in 2005. By that I've deduced that about 100 more people started watching TNA because of him, which is only significant when your numbers are as poor as TNA's were at the time.
Sting hasn't contributed at all. I hear he's had some great match, naturally they're all missing from my extensive DVD collection. They must've been dark matches, great matches, lost in time.
But yeah, Sting did put over Abyss, in the worst feud ever. Well done to him.

He's probably got them a few more viewers. But besides that nothing really. He hasnt even put over young guys...which should be a standard thing for a man his age.
