HULK HOGAN HINTING AT A RUN IN TNA
by Dave Scherer @ 2009-07-08 10:30:02
In an interview with The Southtown Star, Hulk Hogan talked about a number of subjects. The most interesting one was when the subject of WWE vs. TNA came up.
"I watch both products. (TNA's) like the little engine that could. Everybody thought they wouldn't be around for long, and they've been chugging along for seven years. They gain momentum every week. They seem to be real fresh. When a lot of guys go over to that side of the fence, they seem to get a spring in their step," Hogan said. He added that he also watched the WWE product saying, " Vince is the constant. He's the standard of excellence. I just love watching his show because you never know what he is going to do. Plus, the production -- you can't even touch his production. It's so dialed-in. It's amazing just to see how they put the pieces together."
That is when Hogan went into business for himself saying, "If you look at history, everyone says, 'History repeats itself.' With all of the choices in the universe of entertainment, I look at the big package and look at the big picture from 40,000 feet. I see history repeating itself. I see TNA getting strong. I see Vince McMahon being impeccable except for a few little holes in the boat."
Can you guess where this is going? Sure you can!
Hogan continued, "TNA is lacking that one momentum-shifting move, that one big name that would even the playing field, the brand (that is) just as powerful as the WWE brand. (TNA's) lacking the big piece of the puzzle. It wouldn't matter who did what in the past. It will be a totally even playing field. You never know."
Now, I wonder who Hogan could possibly be referring to here? Nah, I don't wonder at all actually. Hogan to TNA? Well, it was in place once before he changed his mind. Of course, that was before his divorce from wife Linda. He may be a little more willing to do a deal now.

In most cases I'd totally disagree with this move, but TNA needs something for ratings, and the one person who could give them those ratings would be Hulk Hogan. And with that they've done already with everything nothing really could make it much worse. So putting Hogan in there wouldn't be any different. It would certainly boost up ratings big time. Get rid of some of the dead weight, and put Hogan in there.

I'm really fifty fifty on this. This is going to sound ridiculous but I don't know if Hogan would really draw all that for the short term he'd be there when comparing the money that they'd pay for his appearances.
Hogan headlined an indie show in a very pro wrestling area and it didn't even come close to selling out. It might be a different story when you've got a TV program to build things off of, but I couldn't be too sure. TNA doesn't really have the marketing in place to capitalize on it like the WWE would.
Worse things have been done with a million dollars **cough McMahon's million dollar give away** If it turns out that it is a profitable endeavor than by all means go for it. But with TNA's limited exposure if signing Hogan is more so an attempt to try and break the glass ceiling and get more fans at the expense of losing a million dollars than it's not worth it.

Get rid of some dead weight? I think Hogan himself is dead weight. The guy is in a pitiful state. Too pitiful to pull off his gimmick. I don't see people like me drawn to this, but I know people can eat out of the palm of his hands.

Well ya of course Hulk Hogan is dead weight, and and old fuck, but I'd say he's one of possibly three or four that could still draw.
1. Hogan
2. The Rock
3. Ric Flair
4. Stone Cold.
I'd say those 4 are guys who'd draw big time. Throw in Bret Hard too who would also draw.

It's typical for people to say Hogan would be pointless, etc but for TNA's sake, they can really use, even if he doesn't wrestle. Hogan is by far the biggest name in wrestling of all the times, and his name would just get TNA instant ratings, as it does for the E whenever he makes a random appearence to promote something new he's doing.
In a wrestling standpoint, cutting young, talented guys would be a dumb move, but from a business stand point, bringing in Hulk Hogan would def. gain a lot of viewers.

This is pretty much bullshit. Hogan really doesn't get wrestling if he believes that. They have enough name value imo. The last thing they need is another washed up has-been coming in and holding young talent down just like all the others, and Hogan is the king of that. They need to create some of their own talent rather than constantly relying on these old guys who made their name elsewhere, DECADES ago in this case.
But hey what do I know.

Who are you comparing to Hogan as far as talent TNA has who are has beens?
How you could compare the biggest name in wrestling history to anyone TNA has is beyond me.

Cena is a draw despite not being a retired legend. Now if TNA could land Cena that would turn the wrestling world upside down, it'd be bigger than WCW landing Hogan because Hogan although still popular wasn't really the WWF's guy at the time. If I read correctly it is not like they stole him as he was a free agent focusing on his TV show.
If TNA is going to shell out 6-7 figures for wrestlers, they should be stealing guys directly from the WWE sooner rather than later. The WWE is very smart and has learned from what has happened in the past with WCW which is why they have guys like Orton locked down on 10 year deals. I'm not sure when Cena's contract will end, but TNA dropping Steiner, Nash, Foley, and a Hogan signing and using the pooled money towards Cena would do 10x more than having those guys on their roster. Those guys probably make 6 figures each, and Hogan would likely want a downside guarantee closer to one million for a full time deal.

I wouldn't cut young guys, and looking at the roster it's pretty well balanced they have around 58 people on the roster. And I'm sure they don't pay all of those people all the time.
