Former WWE wrestler Bobby Lashley says a decision will be made within the next few weeks on whether he's going to sign a contract with TNA to join the promotion
as a wrestler. Meanwhile, Lashley didn't close the door on possibly returning to WWE.
Lashley said on the Hits the Ropes radio show this week that professional wrestling
is "in his blood" and he wants to wrestle while training for MMA fights, including his June 27 fight against Bob Sapp. He said would prefer to wrestle for TNA over WWE.
"I had some sit-downs with (TNA president) Dixie Carter. We're working something into the (Main Event Mafia) angle to be part of their show," Lashley told Daris Brown on HTR radio. "Being a professional wrestler is in your blood. Wish I never left it in the first place, but under the circumstances, I did."
Lashley left WWE two years ago on poor terms to begin a full-time MMA career. However, he did not shoot down the idea that he could return to WWE.
"I'd rather not talk about it too much," Lashley said with slight hesitation. "I've been in talks with TNA. If people are going to see me coming back, it's probably going be with TNA."
Lashley was asked whether TNA brought him into the promotion too quickly since he hasn't been on TNA TV in several weeks. Lashley debuted in TNA by ambiguously pointing toward feuding Main Event Mafia and Frontline wrestlers. Lashley offered a not-serious and serious explanation for the angle.
Not-serious: "Maybe I just wanted to come and point," Lashley said dryly. "I didn't say I was fighting anybody. Maybe I was just saying 'good show.'"
Serious: "Dixie's smart enough to know that you want to bring people into your organization that have cross-marketing appeal. Why not bring me into their organization? Why wait until I'm so busy with MMA work that I can't do anything but fight? She's still wanting me to have an opportunity to fight."
Lashley was also asked about the recent MMA news that Kimbo Slice signed with UFC to appear on The Ultimate Fighter show. Lashley said he would have wanted to appear on the show, but his management team shot it down.
"Wouldn't do anything for my career," Lashley said. "Not going that route. Would have loved to have been on the show just to fight, but have to go with the people who are directing my career right now."

Pretty interesting interview. Definitely didn't say no about a WWE return. TNA sounds more realistic though right now.

I think if he turns out to be sucessful he will pursue that and won't give TNA a second though, I can see him having them just as a backup plan in case he fails in MMA.

Yah I agree with that. But I think TNA knows that too. Probably a good situation for both. Al though TNA is all over the place lately. Have a million guys on their damn roster.

never understand why they had him appear on tv before they had him under contract.
He was under contract, it was just a very short contract. Three days to be exact. I suspect it was just to see how fans would react if they bring him in full time for TNA while for Lashley it gave him the option of TNA if MMA doesnt quite work out. While it may seem like nothing came of it, both parties benefited from it.

Eh, I don't know. He's good. Like, I was a Lashley enthusiast when everyone liked him when he was United States Champion and I continued to be one when apparently no one liked him when he was ECW Champion and on Raw. I always thought he was a good mat wrestler as well as power wrestler, obviously and was quite nimble for his size. And then of course, his size added to him. Why not have a wrestler who is good but at the same time will appeal to a large amount of fans due to his size? Why not? His only downside ever to me was his mass amount of charisma and mic skills which can only be matched by Ken Shamrock.
So I'd love to see him on a show.
I just don't want to see him in TNA. They've got so many people in right now. Their roster is stacked with great talent of their own, not so great talent of their own, great talent from the WWE both young and old and not so great talent from the WWE both young and old. Then there are the recent released of WWE in Umaga and Mr. Kennedy and the not so recent releases from the WWE in Dykstra, Burke and London which I'm sure are all tempting. There is such a cluster in TNA right now that I'm not sure I'd enjoy him there, so hopefully he opts for MMA.

I'm just not sure what Lashley can do in TNA that he hasn't already done, and it's not as if he's gonna pop ratings and PPV buys. I don't see the upside for either party.

Bobby Lashley is one of those guys that has a ton of in-ring talent, but no charisma whatsoever. And I'm not even talking on the mic; his in-ring charisma was also very unimpressive. I personally think that he should stick with MMA, and also think that whoever he has "handling" his career should be fired, because being on the Ultimate Fighter would have seriously kick-started his MMA notariety.

I don't think he has a ton of in ring talent. Just because you're a good amateur wrestler doesn't mean you're a good pro wrestler. His matches are boring as shit.
