honestly i think the only thing thats kepping tna down is that they dont promote enough. WWE has stuff all over, the radio,tv ect,the only time i see TNA commercials are well, during TNA
TNA needs to worry more about the product they are putting out right now. Storylines feel rushed and altered in progress, divisions are almost dead, there is a title has been defended one, there is no clear way on how someone becomes a #1 contender, there are too many authority figures, and there are too many gimmicks & gimmick matches.
If TNA is able to fix their product, not only will they make more money, but they will get more fans through word of mouth. Then they can focus on marketing. They could market all they want, but if their product is so horrible people dont want it, they'll be wasting money.
Yeah, I try to watch an episode every now and then...it's just boring. I even forget the next time it's on because there is nothing to look forward to. Like Nexus said they need to focus on their current product to get people to want to watch the show they put on. If they just promote blindly without being able to back it up, viewers will tune in and then leave, which would be a HUGE waste of money; and TNA can't afford that.

The problem with catering for the smarks is that they are a niche market, and won't make much money for TNA in the long run.
I know their product is quite shit right now but that's not to say no-one else would watch the product, if TNA could promote to the right market it could benefit them.
