    Liverpool target Spain star Villa

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez admits David Villa is on his list of potential striker recruits after Peter Crouch's impending departure to Portsmouth.

Villa, 26, was one of the stars of Euro 2008, scoring four times as Spain won their first major trophy in 44 years.

"We have Torres, Voronin, Kuyt, Babel and Steven Gerrard, who can play as a second striker," Benitez said. "But we will try to bring in another option.

"Villa we know all about. He is on our list. But maybe it will be difficult."

Fernando Torres scored 33 goals in a spectacular first season at Anfield, but the other strikers only managed a combined total of 17 goals to undermine any hopes of launching a sustained Premier League title challenge.

Don't think he would move, Valencia need him too much if they're to succeed. Though after seeing what Torres achieved last year, he may be keen to join him.

Silva won't leave. Not sure if Liverpool could accommodate both Torres and Villa, if he was to go there. Would make them a stronger side though no doubt.

Yeh obviously, but club is different to national. Spain don't really have anyone else to play as stiker, Guiza doesn't have the same experience. Liverpool on the other hand still have Babel Kuyt and Vorinon as stiking options, and Benayoun and Gerrard can go forward.

True, Villa is better than Kuyt. Guess it could work, though not sure if playing 6 mainly attacking players is the best option. I still think Alonso or Mascherano needs to start if theyre going to challenge for the title. Thats just me though.

Lets get this straight, it's not that Squibo honestly can't see him leaving, it is that he doesn't want to see him leave his league of the La Liga, that is what I see.
