Should Wrestlers Be Allowed To Have Creative Control?

I've never really seen the point of allowing some wrestlers to have control over the direction of their character and in some cases the direction of others. I recently saw a report on HBK & Triple H sitting in on creative meetings, and Triple H swaying Vince from allowing the creative team to do "toilet humor."

In my opinion, Vince McMahon pays his creative team to come up with storylines, angles, and gimmicks for the wrestlers. The wrestlers are paid to go out to the ring and put on a good show. Having wrestlers call creative shots limits what the creative team is able to come up with.

No wrestler should be allowed to sit in on creative meetings. If they have any concerns with the direction of their character, they should take it up with a Road Agent and let the Agent take it from there.

I'm not saying a wrestler shouldn't be able to give suggestions, but only Vince McMahon and his immediate family, not including son in laws, should have final say in what gimmicks, storylines, and angles get shown on television.

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't let my wrestlers be apart of creative meetings, because 1. they can leave/quit to go to the rival's company and 2. somebody else would quit because they're getting trashed cause of the guy abusing his political power backstage.

In HBK's case, supposedly he hasn't gone too far by demanding stuff and whatnot.. but HHH supposedly has forced his status in the meetings and I am not surprised that Vince hasn't done anything but agree with HHH's ideas. Personally, HHH is an asset to WWE and I would rather see him on the top of the list than at the bottom.

Unless it draws great ideas and results, then no.

It all depends on who it is. I mean, HHH is now family and him, steph and Shane will one day run the company. If the wrestlers have really great idea's, I don't see what the big problem is. It could get out of control, but I don't really see it as a problem now.

Stone Cold had creative control over his character.

Taker has creative control, most of the time.

Rock had creative control, just like Stone Cold, he determined how his character would be presented.

Personally, I don't see that much of a problem with it. I think that if I was a wrestler, I would want to have an imput on my charector and my fueds. Like all career paths, more control and responsibiliy equates to more job satisfaction, and therefore happier workers and less chance of problems or workers wanting to leave.

The main problem in my ideas would be that if two guys have conflicting ideas. I think the bookers should come up with the fueds, but the wrestlers should be allowed input in terms of promo ideas, match ideas, charector development, turns, gimmicks, etc.

Overall, I would lean towards saying yes they should be allowed a creative control, but in reality in comes down to the individuals more than anything.

Well maybe its just me, but if I'm Randy Orton and I sort of carried Raw for a few months as champion, I'd be extremely pissed to be overshadowed in my Wrestlemania match because Triple H, who has creative control, just happens to find himself in the main event along with Cena and myself.

I cant see one or two people having control over the direction of their own characters and in essence other wrestlers characters as keeping everyone happy.

In my opinion, all wrestlers should be allowed creative INPUT not creative CONTROL. And Steve, I think that is more so what you meant, though I could be mistaken. Being able to pitch ideas and work with the creative team on what angle they discovered/invented.

WCW isn't a word, it's an abbreviation. Truth is though, only a couple guys really had creative control. The main problem was Biscoff listening and following the ideas of his wrestlers. Every company encourages it's wrestlers to come up with ideas.

I agree, this is kind of what I meant when I started rambling about conflicting interests. If Orton wants to take centre stage and so does HHH, then I think it should be up to the creative team if the two wrestlers can't agree on a compromise. I'm against certain individuals getting creative control and others not, but I'm for the idea of EVERYONE getting their own input.

i don't see a problem with it to an extent. i wouldn't let them sit in on the meetings as said. if they had full control i think it would be choas. and there's a lot of dumbasses and freaks who don't understand the business or how to please a crowd or how to propperly carry out a story line so they shouldn't have the...control...meh i don't know what i'mm trying to say. so sure...to an extent. =/ i'm not very good at writing down my thoughts except in my autographed Hannah Montana diary
