If you mean from my sig, it's a WWF Title match from a New Japan tour called The Bloody Fight Series. The date was 30/09/80 if you want to watch it on New Japan world.

Backlund is more known for a Chicken Wing but couldn't find a good gif for one, so I picked the pile driver gif instead. Just an excuse to get Stan Hansen in my sig tbh

    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

I repped him this but I gotta say: Backlund totally ruled. One of WWF's best ever workers and a truly dynamic wrestler who existed in a world of lumbering stiffs & howdy doody bullshit that was late 70s/early 80s WWF he brought the kind of in-ring quality that would have been top tier in NJPW at the time. And his resurrection in the 90s as conservative old timer in WWF/Shoot Style worker in Japan is one of the coolest things ever.

His cage match vs Ken Patera of all people in 1980 is probably my favorite WWF match of the 80s tbh & the one against Slaughter the next year was just as good, his late 70s series with Pat Patterson was awesome. Tons of love for President Backlund.

If you think about it, the Bucks put a lot of their matches on the BTE show so there is wrestling in it.

I like to think Chuckie and Trent are the reason for the success.

    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

Just was watching Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka matches. Just wondering how WCW fucked up Mike Awesome so bad. This guy was so friggin dynamic for a big man, I know he looked a little goofy, but I seriously think he had the it factor. His talent alone for that size should have easily had him debut as a monster, just killing people.

I only rewatched three of the American matches between these two, but holy shit they really were stiff. The amount of times both almost broke their neck are too many to count.

Mike Awesome was a guy who needed to be very carefully booked to get the most out of him. He could do some great moves and nice spots, but he was very limited at the in-between stuff and needed a guy like Tanaka, a ‘glue’ wrestler, to hold the match together. Awesome also wasn’t that tall, as he was maybe 6’4 at the most, and he didn’t have the build at that height to come off like a monster. The shorter you are, the stockier you have to be in order to come off like a monster; Samoa Joe is short for a monster, at maybe a shade over 6ft, but he comes off as one because he’s built like a brick shithouse. Rhino has a similar frame and he can also come off as a monster when booked like one. Awesome didn’t have those dimensions, so coming off as a monster at that height would have been very difficult when matched against the guys he would have been working with in WCW.

WCW definitely didn’t make the best use of Awesome. But even with the right booking, I don’t know that WCW had the roster to get the most out of him.

That's true, but his debut attacking Kevin Nash was just stupid to me. Had to keep him away from taller guys. LMAO Looking back at his debut and his 20 second promo, he really does have one goofy friggin face.

    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

I've got it. This is post that this thread was made for. This needs to be spread because it's so random.

I've been listening to some AKB48 and I came across this.

Got to 3:30, and you will see Kenny Omega and Kenta Kobashi dancing. It's pretty funny and random (See).

^weird ass video, but catchy as hell lol

I'm going through Wrestling Society X episodes right now. Some good talent, but cringe worthy try hard production.

These were all shot in America in California. Sadly, there is nothing that fun going on.

And shockingly Vampiro as the booker booked himself strongly. I know that sounds crazy.

    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

Yeah... cause I'm watching an AKB video for Kobashi and Omega rather than Minami Takahashi I think Kobashi and Omega are big fans of AKB though so makes sense.

There's a few wrestlers in music vids in Japan. Nakamura and Okada were in the Japanese music video for "Happy" whilst Tanahashi was in a Kamen Rider (Life is Show Time) music video. Nakamura also in some Tempura Kidz music video too, can't remember the name of the song but it's on YT if you search "Nakamura Tempura Kidz". Hikaru Shida, Miyako Matsumoto and Tsukasa Fujimoto are in a music video too but the song name escapes me. I think it's Light of Heroes. Ishii also in a music vid (Darling by May's) playing some chick's love interest. I'm pretty sure there's a ton of other things too.

think that shit's random? Here's a trailer of a movie featuring Kota Ibushi, Minoru Suzuki and Saki Akai - featuring Ibushi and Suzuki getting oversized and fighting some massive fucking monster:
