    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

Love that feud so much. Like Jericho vs Michaels from the year before, they towed the lined perfectly of "heel is absolutely in the right and the face is a dick, but the heel is an even bigger dick".

Been through the entire Kane vs Cena feud. The episode where Ryder gets thrown off the stage is absolutely incredible comedy Eve turning heel for friendzoning Ryder is just brilliant, and Ryder's awful acting through it makes it all the better (like his pathetic face while he's sat in the wheelchair after Eve and Cena have just made out).

I've fast forwarded to around Raw 1000 and burned through a few shows. Some thoughts:

    - CM Punk is trying so hard to get people to hate him and it just isn't working. He could have strangled kittens and he wouldn't have gotten jeers.
    - I kinda like AJ as GM, maybe it's because it came immediately after the Anonymous GM and Big Johnny, so AJ looks great by comparison.
    - Sheamus really really really really sucks as a character.
    - Ziggler is still gold.
    - There's an episode immediately after Summerslam where they're teasing HHH's retirement. Even by HHH standards, that episode has an impressive amount of self-masturbation for his retirement, with about 10 video packages for HHH throughout. HHH's music hits: silence. I love it. He starts tearing up during an emotional promo, and the crowd are still apathetic to it all. Talk about an over-inflated sense of self importance
    - Daniel Bryan is god. His matches are amazing, his promos are amazing, he's started anger management which is still hilarious (SHUT UP HAROLD). He's by far the most popular wrestler on the roster already, and the stuff with Kane and AJ was a huge reason for his career being so successful. It goes without saying, but he's by far the best part of the whole show right now.

Nearly every Bryan segment Raw 1000 and after to the end of the year is golden. I've never seen such consistent good comedy in the WWE in my life. Add in the fact that Kane can ace a comedy role and Dr. Shelby is a GOAT non wrestler.

CM Punk in late 2012 is next-level despicable heel. If he wasn't so beloved by half the audience for his amazing wrestling and personality, he'd be one of the most hated heels in WWE history. I love it. The crowd reactions kind of hurt that perception of him, however.

    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

The Punk turn is still brewing perfectly, he's effectively working as a heel in matches but he hasn't had his "turn" yet. Meanwhile, he's becoming visibly frustrated on TV with the crowd discarding him in favour of Jeff & a couple of TV losses to John Morrison. The turn will make tons of sense when it happens.

On the subject of TV losses, one thing I've noticed during this period is both WHC (Edge & Punk) have taken a whole bunch of clean losses on TV. In fact, both guys lost on TV more than they won.

    Re: Random Wrestling Talk

I didn't think any episode of Raw would come close to the horror of the walkout episode of Raw, but it's been beaten: The 2012 Slammy Award show.

Fuck me this is an astonishingly bad show. For starters, WWE treat their fanbase like complete idiots for the entire show by showing the fans, repeatedly, how to download the WWE app. And I don't mean just once or twice, but they do it at least 5 times on the show, as well as constantly remind you through the whole show. The awards have always been awful, but they feel especially bad on this show. Trending moment of the year going to #FeedMeMore, LOL moment of the year, Tell Me I Didn't Just See That award, Kiss of the year. If they aren't going to do serious awards then they need to be funny. And it was a show built around comedy, and all of the comedy fell flat on its face. Boogeyman? Santino and Tensai? Ryder and Layla. It all failed miserably.

Of course, with the fans voting, Cena wins Superstar of the Year, which shows what the WWE fans thought of "the worst year of Cena's career". Then he tries to give the award to Ric Flair for reasons?

Of all of this though, there's one thing that is absolutely baffling. This show features 9 matches
Rey Mysterio def Sandow - 3 minutes
Kaitlyn def Divas Champion Even - 2 minutes
Kofi Kingston def Tensai - 1 minute
Khali (with his partner Natalya - remember that?) def David Otunga - 2 minutes
Brodus Clay def JTG - 2 minutes
Cody Rhodes def Sin Cara - 4 minutes
Ryback def Cesaro - 2 minutes
Cena & Vickie Guerrero def Dolph Ziggler & AJ - 4 minutes

Fair enough, it's a show with a shit load of short matches and the wrestling takes a backseat. I can live with that. But in among these matches is one more match:

Alberto Del Rio, The Miz & Tommy Dreamer vs 3MB

If you look above, you'd think that match would last maybe a couple of minutes right? This match went fourteen minutes. It was horrendous, dull, and nobody cared about it. It's such a baffling decision on so many levels. Horrendous.

    What an awful show.

Thankfully I'm going to get into the 2013 Rock feuds, and both the Punk and Cena feuds were amazing at the time so I'm looking forward to how they get on.

Christ i completely wiped that "AJ Lee is a hoe" award from my memory

Was there ever a good slammy award show? I know for the most part they were pretty much throwaway shows to help close out the year but man it felt like so much more could have been done with them. If nothing else they could have been a decent building block towards the Rumble PPV but they almost always felt worthless.

Also, christ at that 14 min 6 man tag match. Good on ya for soldiering through that Shock.

Considering 3MB (outside of WeeLC) are one of my least favourite stables ever, face Miz is unbelievably bad in every way, and Dreamer is fat and old and terrible - if I still was doing my worst of Pro Wrestling thread, I'd probably include that.

    14 minutes!

Can I at least ask why 3MB is your least favorite stable? For a sloppily thrown together stable with one good worker, they excelled in their role to me.

I feel like there have been far worse, especially recently (The Welcoming Committee, League of Nations, the divas revolution stables, The Corre)

They weren't funny at all - they were trying hard to make it funny but it just missed every time. They were around for 2 years and did almost nothing memorable until WeeLC. They were a total bore and contributed nothing to the product in 2 years. A waste of two decent talents and gave regular tv to one of the worst WWE wrestlers of the last decade.

Didn't they repeat the same 6 man tag with Brooklyn Brawler instead of Dreamer at a ppv?

Christ almighty did babyface Miz suck.

Eh, that's fair. I didn't really think they were that offensive and it's not like they were meant to be over pushed or given the world. They were harmless and just a small act. They were fine in their roles. While McIntyre deserved better, at least they tried to use him which they weren't doing for the previous year and a half. Also that gimmick was perfect for Slater and he had fun with it and was great. We all know Jinder forever sucks so that was what it was. The company will always at least plug one guy into an idea that doesn't belong.

I feel like they benefited the most from non-major programming. We talk about Talking Smack helping guys have a platform for ideas and great promos, I felt like the group benefited from WWE.com exclusives and stuff not seen by everybody on Superstars and shit. I can recall them actually being funny when given the opportunity to just be goofy and wing it.

I'll forever love their "WERE GOING TO WRESTLEMANIA" video because there was a brief moment in time where no one thought they would actually be featured at WrestleMania 30

Ah, Pretty Ricky. One of the finest gems out there. Never a point to it, but so amusing.

    MY GOVERNMENT NAME IS DELICIOUS

Am I just dreaming this or did he bring Pretty Ricky back to plug the WWE Shop years later? I feel like he did something with it.

currently watching the raw after backlash 1999 and the show is alright but there was a triple h match where he came out to the most worst music I've ever heard and came out to absolutely no reaction . I have no Idea why they thought that he will get over coming out to that price of crap music. His match was way worse though, he was more boring then 2017 triple h and that's terrible. It says a lot about the match when BILLY GUNN is the star of the match. Triple h is so lucky that he joined the corporate ministry and feuded with the rock out of being the only member with some credibility ( at a strech at this point) not called the undertaker otherwise I could have seen his push fail more then hardcore hollys push around this time as well. Also, triple h within a month suddenly got huge, of course not prime 2000/1 huge but bigger then he was at wrestlemania XV.

Yeah, generic filler themes tend to be bad. It does seem as if the WWE realized that this new song wasn't good as they debuted "My Time" on the last Raw before Over the Edge, but it was an unfinished theme as it was just the instrumental version. The full version would take another month before it debuted.

it's not just triple h its the entire show, there was three things worth note, the corporation turning on the rock to limited heat (the reason may be that it was the mean stream posse, boss man and heat less triple h attacking him), the rock vs Shane match which which was ruined by its shortness and Russo over booking and the wedding with taker and Stephanie, The show was terrible, and Boring besides the moments I said. Honestly, if it wasn't for the rock and stone cold I think the company would have declined worse then wcw did

I'm all for agreeing that it was boring, I'm sure, but the WWE was making mad money around that time period. You're nearly to the highest rated segment in the history of Monday Night Raw in the form of Austin vs Taker in June. Would WWE be in trouble had Austin and Rock not been around in 1999? Sure, but you're taking away the two biggest stars without allowing for a new one to be created. It's like saying without Hulk Hogan in the mid 80's, the WWE would have been in trouble.

The "Problem" with 1999 is that the draw wasn't the actual matches, but rather the segments.

Better off in what way? Seems to me that if the New Day wasn't formed, Xavier and maybe one or both of the other members would have been released by now.
