Marley & Me is a good movie. I was hesitant to see it, but it was pretty good.

    Was 7 Pounds any good?

    Updated with new numbers.

Great sign for Friday The 13th series. Already in the positive big time after week one.

re: Box Office - Updated Every Monday

Friday the 13th dropped huge holy crap.

Slumdog had a good weekend. Next week 100 million sweet.

I'm shocked by the Tyler Perry movie 41 million holy crap

Taken going to break 100 million.

    Paul Blart still around.

    Weird weekend.

re: Box Office - Updated Every Monday

Real rough weekend at the box office.

    Some good things

Slumdog Millionaire and Taken doing real good. Both past the 100 million mark, and really benefiting from the lack of quality films in theaters right now.

Paul Blart hitting 128 million is pretty incredible. They've made a bundle on a low budget movie. I thought it was pretty watchable. Not great obviously.

    Questions:

Who the hell is seeing Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail? WTF

Who thought making another Street Fighter movie would be a good idea?

Weekend Box Office [March 6-8] : Watchmen Debut Not So Heroic

If there's one thing that Watchmen proved it's that it had little to offer for those who aren't already fans. That's the word coming from many corners, but it's being mirrored in the film's financial turn out as well.

The movie's record breaking online ticket pre-sales and solid midnight preview turn out left many expecting it to exceed the success of its graphic novel cousin 300. But when Friday's full numbers came up short and Saturday's were even weaker, it was clear that devoted fans saw it early, saw it once, and that the movie is in for a quick decline.

That's not to say the movie did poorly. With $55 million on its first weekend it not only easily snatched number one it secured a likely positive return on investment for Warner Brothers who sank $150 million into the film. But a place in history? Not so much.

While it is the top weekend opener of the year so far, it didn't fare so well compared to other rated R releases. The Passion of the Christ took in $83 million its first weekend and 300 did $70 million of business out of the gate. Even Sex and the City took in slightly more with $57 million in May of last year.

It was never going to get massive numbers, because of the rating. I really want to see it as it looks pretty badass.

True but they put 150 million behind it. So I think they needed at least 70/80 million to break even in the end.

Re: Weekend Box Office - Watchmen Debut Not So Heroic

Man, I should be an "industry expert". My estimate of the film taking between 50-60m opening weekend was spot on!

Even with the amount of advertising behind it, I think expecting an $80m opening weekend was way ambitious. While the graphic novel is popular in its own right, it doesn't have the widestream mainstream popularity that comic books like X-Men, Spiderman, etc, all have. Plus, it has no name stars to attract those who don't know what its about.

I still think it will do strong numbers in the end. I think its going to build through word of mouth.

Yeah, to be honest I had no clue of what it was before the movie talk starting sprouting up. I thought it was another comic book series.
