Gonna take a hell of an effort or a colossal fuck up for someone to overtake Hook I think.

The biggest obstacle for Hook is they need to continue showing him gradually rising up the card and working more competitive matches, while simultaneously keeping any (noticeable) green-ness we haven’t seen yet from him being exposed. Lose that balance and either his act grows stale or he becomes over-pushed past his ability.

But that’s part of the fun of seeing this guy in literally his first few matches ever happening on TV in front of proper crowds.

Hard to see anyone surpassing Hook for this award.

But a year is a long time and AEW need to be careful in not rushing him. While he's clearly got some It Factor and gets all the little things right he's still new to this and still green. Rushing him could expose him, but there's only so long you can have him squash QT's jobbers before it gets boring.

That "only so long" might actually be a pretty long time though to be fair. Anyways, I'd reckon they have him doing PPV matches by DoN and I guess we'll see once he starts getting those legit competitive matches if anyone stands a chance against him.

I would like to throw two other AEW names out there though simply because 2022 could be big years for them. Wardlow (though not sure if he counts as a rising Star in 2022?) and Powerhouse Hobbs who I feel has a lot of potential, but being in Team Tazz which has always been a glorified job squad at best will likely hold him back unless he leaves the group pronto.

No doubt he can keep doing what he's doing for a while, but if 2023 rolls around and he's still just doing squash matches something ahs gone wrong and people will likely be bored of him. Its tricky because they have to avoid over exposing him too soon.

I feel like with Hobbs, it's more the idea of him than his actual work that makes him seem like a rising star. Whenever he wrestles, he doesn't really pop for me. Someone like Max Caster easily outshines him even when he's getting beat in 5 minutes to Wardlow.

Yeah, Wheeler Yuta has definitely overtaken Hook at this point.

Got a hell of an effort out of Yuta and a colossal fuck up in the form of Hookhausen, so I guess I can't disagree.

Would say that along with Yuta... Wardlow and Jade Cargill both have extremely strong cases for this award right now as well. I'd probably lean towards Wardlow and Jade as my favorites at the moment in fact.

Im fine with Yuta or Hausen but, I also like to add Joe Gacy as a fast rising star along with Austin Theory (though I do think he's always been good booking wise he's def rising)

I think Wardlow might have the strongest case in AEW right now. I don't hate the Hookhausen thing and don't necessarily think it's nerfed Hook's momentum, but Wardlow's in the hottest program in the company. The biggest issue with him now might be making sure he doesn't cool off too much after he beats MJF.

I’m predicting by the time we vote on this, Ricky Starks will have broke out as a babyface in AEW. Everytime he’s on the screen the crowd are into it and I feel like Tony has big plans for him.

Right now it feels like Wardlow but I could see him cooling off once the MJF feud is over.

Can agree bout Ricky being over but I do think the better story is him turning on Taz & Hook use Powerhouse as his bodyguard set up Hook Vs. Starks for FTW title. You can establish both men and tells a story with Hook winning his dad's title Ricky being a bastard too.
