NXT Takeover Special NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver - April 7th-8th, 2021 - Card & Discussion

    NXT Championship
Finn Balor (c) vs Karrion Kross

The Prince will put his title on the line against the undefeated Karrion Kross, accompanied by Scarlett, at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Bálor has stood tall in the face of all challengers during his six-month reign atop the black-and-gold brand, defeating the likes of Adam Cole, Pete Dunne and Kyle O’Reilly.

However, The Prince’s opportunity to become champion emerged after Kross was forced to vacate the title in August due to injury. The doomsday deviant has been on an absolute rampage since returning, dismantling Damian Priest, Santos Escobar and more.

The two finally came face to face following Bálor’s title defense against Cole, with Kross locking eyes on The Prince and the championship he never lost.

Bálor is perhaps better than he’s ever been, while Kross may be the most unstoppable force in NXT history. When they finally meet at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, something has to give!

Be sure to tune in to NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, beginning Wednesday, April 7 at on USA Network and continuing Thursday, April 8, streaming exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network everywhere else.
    NXT Women's Championship
Io Shirai (c) vs Raquel Gonzalez

The Genius of the Sky will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against the dominant Raquel González — her opponent of choice — as they main event Night 1 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on Wednesday, April 7 on USA Network, as first reported by "Muscle & Fitness Hers."

Time and time again, Shirai has soared past the competition, prevailing against the best NXT has to offer. Candice LeRae, Toni Storm, Dakota Kai, Tegan Nox have all failed to knock her from the throne.

Shirai, not one to rest on her laurels, didn’t celebrate her most recent defense against Storm for long, confronting González later that night and demanding to face “Big Mami Cool.”

Few Superstars, if any, have had a more impressive past year in NXT than González. Bursting onto the scene with her alliance with Dakota Kai, González has racked up accolades in short order. She has defeated former NXT Women’s Champions Rhea Ripley and Ember Moon, and with Kai won the first-ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and were crowned the first-ever NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Will “Big Mami Cool” show that her dominance knows no bounds? Or will Shirai’s genius prove unsolvable once again?

    Unsanctioned Match
    Adam Cole vs Kyle O'Reilly

    Quote Originally Posted by WWE.com

The former Undisputed ERA brothers are set to clash in an Unsanctioned Match in the co-main event of Night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on Thursday, April 8.

A bond built over years of friendship was destroyed in the blink of an eye at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day when Cole stunned the NXT Universe by superkicking O'Reilly. The former NXT Champion took it a step further by putting his former friend out of action with a vicious suplex on the steel steps.

Though he wasn't cleared for action, O'Reilly refused to be kept away, and he returned to the Capitol Wrestling Center to cost Cole his NXT Championship Match against Finn Bálor.

The bad blood only escalated from there, leading to an altercation that drew police, and later, an unruly skirmish at a gym O'Reilly was training at.

Irate over the Superstars threatening to tear apart the fabric of the black-and-gold brand, NXT General Manager William Regal forced O'Reilly and Cole to come to the table, proposing an Unsanctioned Match in which NXT would not be accountable for anything that happens.

Dead set on ending one another, both men were more than happy to agree to the stipulation — even with O'Reilly still not medically cleared. Nothing will be off limits in what figures to be a barbaric brawl as NXT and WWE are not responsible for what happens.

O'Reilly is determined to reclaim his soul after selling it for The Undisputed ERA, while Cole is out to show that The UE was only holding him back.

Which Superstar will prove themselves right at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver?
Legado Del Fantasma vs Grizzled Young Vets vs MSK

MSK will collide with The Grizzled Young Veterans and Legado del Fantasma in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match for the vacant NXT Tag Team Titles.

The titles were vacated from former champions Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch after Burch was rendered unable to compete due to a separated shoulder suffered in a title defense against Karrion Kross & Finn Bálor.

NXT General Manager William Regal made the difficult decision, but the bad news came with good news for the NXT Universe in the form of what is sure to be a can't-miss battle between three of the black-and-gold brand's top teams.

MSK and GYV are already more than familiar with each other. Zack Gibson fractured Wes Lee's hand in a savage attack in February, costing MSK their initial NXT Tag Team Title opportunity for winning The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Gibson got a receipt though, as MSK retaliated by smashing Gibson's hand against the steps.

Meanwhile, Legado del Fantasma also have history with MSK, as Nash Carter & Lee narrowly defeated them in a thriller to advance to the Dusty Classic finals.

Which team will leave NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver as the new NXT Tag Team Champions? Find out on Wednesday, April 7, at 8/7 C on USA Network and Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network everywhere else!
Gauntler Match - Winner Faces Johnny Gargano on Night II
Leon Ruff vs Bronson Reed vs Cameron Grimes vs Dexter Lumis vs Isaiah Scott

Night 1 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver will feature a test of wills, as six men look to outlast the competition.

Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes, Dexter Lumis, Isaiah "Swerve" Scott, LA Knight and Leon Ruff will battle in a Gauntlet Eliminator Match with the winner advancing to Night 2 to challenge Johnny Gargano for the NXT North American Championship.

The six Superstars qualified based on their performance in an 11-Man Battle Royal on the March 31 edition of NXT, with LA Knight winning to score himself a huge advantage as the final entrant in the bout (full entry order and match rules below).

Only one man will claim victory and a potential golden ticket — who will it be? Find out on Night 1 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on Wednesday, April 7, at 8/7 C on USA Network and streaming exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network elsewhere.
    NXT UK Championship
    WALTER vs Tomasso Ciampa

Can WALTER continue his record-setting reign as NXT United Kingdom Champion against The Blackheart?

The Ring General will put his title on the line against Tommaso Ciampa on Night 1 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

WALTER's indomitable stable, Imperium, courted Ciampa and tag team partner Timothy Thatcher to join their ranks. The Blackheart emphatically declined, and Thatcher, who shares a storied history with Imperium, seemingly disappeared with Ciampa holding Imperium responsible for his absence.

Ruthlessly attacking Ciampa in his stunning return to the black-and-gold brand for the first time in more than a year, WALTER made a vicious example. But The Blackheart came back for more the following week, challenging The Ring General.

When Ciampa smacked WALTER after he denied the challenge, The Blackheart was once again subjected to a savage beatdown by Imperium.

But when WALTER and Ciampa face off one on one, might it be a different story? As a former NXT Champion who only relinquished the title due to injury, Ciampa knows what it takes to win gold.

Will he add a new accolade at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver? Or will WALTER continue to dominate?

Find out on Night 1 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on Wednesday, April 7, at 8/7 C on USA Network and streaming on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network everywhere else.
    KUSHIDA vs Pete Dunne

For weeks, Pete Dunne has proclaimed to be the best technical wrestler in NXT, and he's faced little pushback, surgically taking apart opponent after opponent.

That is until Kushida begged to differ.

Two of the world's best will square off to prove their squared-circle supremacy on Night 1 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on Wednesday, April 7.

Ahead of the Battle Royal on the March 31 edition of NXT to qualify for the Gauntlet Eliminator, The BruiserWeight once again declared his dominance, only to be rebuked by NXT's resident Time Splitter. The tension spilled over to the Battle Royal, with both men eliminating each other as Kushida refused to break his feared Hoverboard Lock until the two were separated by officials, prompting this bout to be made.

The beef has escalated in short order, and now they've cost each other a potential title opportunity. What fireworks will be in store next at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver?

NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver comes your way with Night 1 on Wednesday, April 7, at 8/7 C on USA Network and streams exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network elsewhere. And don't miss Night 2 on Thursday, April 8, at 8/7 C on Peacock and WWE Network.
    Cruiserweight Championship
    Ladder Match
Santos Escobar (c) vs Jordan Devlin (c)

Who is the true NXT Cruiserweight Champion?

That question will be answered on Night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver when Santos Escobar and Jordan Devlin face off for the coveted title in a Ladder Match.

Escobar made an instant impact upon his arrival on the black-and-gold brand, winning last year’s NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament before unmasking and forming Legado del Fantasma alongside Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza.

However, Devlin also never lost his title after capturing it last January at WWE Worlds Collide. Since returning to action on NXT UK, The Irish Ace has been at the top of his game and willing to prove it on any given day, launching an open challenge initiative. He most recently conquered the likes of Trent Seven and even the much larger “Bomber” Dave Mastiff in a non-title bout.

They’ve exchanged barbs for months, but they finally came face to face on the March 17 edition of NXT, with Devlin deriding Escobar as merely a “fill-in.” Escobar responded by laying down the challenge for this bout, and The Irish Ace answered with a devastating headbutt and the Devlin Side before Wilde and Mendoza could intervene.

A week later, WWE Hall of Famer and Ladder Match pioneer Shawn Michaels symbolically introduced a ladder into the equation, and without a word, both Escobar and Devlin understood exactly what was before them.

NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver figures to finally put the controversy surrounding the NXT Cruiserweight Title to rest. But who will ascend to the top?

Watch NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, beginning Wednesday, April 7, on USA Network and continuing Thursday, April 8, streaming exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network everywhere else.
    NXT Women's Tag Team Championships
Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart (c) vs Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell

Blackheart & Moon will put their titles on the line against The Way on Night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver on Thursday, April 8, at 8/7 C, streaming exclusively on Peacock in the U.S. and on WWE Network elsewhere.

On their history-making run to the finals of the first-ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Blackheart & Moon knocked off LeRae & Hartwell in a barnburner and have remained red-hot since capturing the titles.

But The Way have had their eyes on the gold ever since, and they haven’t been shy about it. They formally issued their challenge after their latest victory, and Blackheart & Moon were more than happy to accept.

Don’t miss NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, beginning with Night 1 on Wednesday, April 7, at 8/7 C on USA Network and continuing with Night 2 on Thursday, April 8, at 8/7 C on Peacock and WWE Network.
Like Wrestlemania, Takeover's going over TWO DAYS. April 7th & 8th!

Io and Raquel are main eventing one of the two shows I believe. I'm sure that's not in response to any other recent womens main events...

Balor/Kross is such a come down from the stuff Balor's had recently.

Guessing Cole/O'Reilly is on this show too, and Devlin Vs Escobar for the CW title.

Shirai's reign has been a letdown but looking forward to the Gonzales matches. Hopefully they pull the trigger on her.

Pete Dunne Vs KUSHIDA appears to be added to Night 1. Can imagine some good arm and hand work in that one.

Something I only just realised today was that N1 is on TV, and N2 is on the network. N1 could really benefit from being limited to a 2 hour show for The Gauntlet, Io/Raquel, WALTER/Ciampa, the mens tag title 3 way and Dunne/Kushida. Whereas N2 with no time limits could see matches go much longer than they need to, in particular Cole/O'Reilly.

It’s a shame that O’Reilly, WALTER and current form Balor have uninteresting opponents otherwise these shows would look a lot more appealing. Can’t say there’s anything here that greatly excites me, although I expect most of it to be good at the least. Would’ve liked to have seen Balor/WALTER, something I wouldn’t have said 6 months ago. Maybe that’ll be down the line.

Cole and O'Reilly work well in these gimmick matches together. I remember loving their match at Final Battle around a few years ago.

I like Kross. Maybe the gimmick is corny but I don't remember anything that would make me sour on him being against Balor.

Devlin vs Escobar is the match I'm most looking forward to. I've been waiting for this match since COVID happened.

I can see the womens title and UK title matches being good - WALTER is reliable and Ciampa is a competent opponent, and the women are both decent and have a clash of styles.

Night 2 has an OK womens tag but otherwise looks pretty horrendous

Although I really dug that video package for O'Reilly vs Cole, night 2 doesn't interest me like night 1. Hell, since NXT UK Prelude has another WALTER NXT UK Title defense, I'm probably more curious to check out that show than night 2 of Stand & Deliver.

Yeah, but it's against Rampage Brown. I'm WALTER's biggest fan but that does nothing for me, especially if they give it the NXT UK agenting treatment and it goes 25 minutes+

    ---

I'm curious to see what Balor can do against Kross but I'm sure they'll Bray it up with some dumb fire magic spot from Scarlett.

So is Io vs González just the main event of one of these TakeOvers for the attention, likely because of AEW's recent Dynamite main event?

Watching the video package for Io vs González, there doesn't feel like there's much of a feud there.

Somewhat surprised to see this show is already on the network. Thought they might do the thing where NXT tv shows have a week delay before getting uploaded.
