WC’s Favourite Films of the 2010’s!

    *Pulls up a chair*

Let us go back 8 months. In simpler times, our good friend Man put together a thread celebrating the best video games of the previous decade. In fact, here's that countdown:

    http://wrestlingclique.com/showthread.php?t=173949

Good stuff huh? I thought so too, and I thought a film version would go down quite nicely as well. Which leads us to this point in time.

So once you've sent your KOWC noms to SJW, put your thinking caps on and PM me your TOP TEN films of the last decade. I'll whack a nice 2 week time frame on this, so let's say by 6pm GMT on Friday 4th September 2020.

Criteria is straightforward, any film that had it's first release between January 1st 2010 and December 31st 2019 is eligible. IMDB and Wikipedia are your friends if you're unsure. Any points ties will be broken by number of nominations received.

Discuss, debate, yell at each other in the meantime.

Re: WC’s Favourite Films of the 2010’s!

My preliminary longlist based on what's on the IMDB Top 100 and Oscars Best Picture nominees, just as the quickest way to grab films I liked but obviously this gives me the most mainstream ones:

    The Social Network
    Inception
    Prisoners
    Interstellar
    Whiplash
    Gone Girl
    Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
    1917
    Parasite
    Joker
    Uncut Gems
    Birdman
    The Revenant
    Manchester By The Sea
    Dunkirk
    Phantom Thread
    First Man
    Silence
    Blue Ruin
    Drive
    Mid90s

The bold ones I'm fairly confident will be making my Top 10, Whiplash being my most likely candidate for #1. As an editor, that movie gives me a massive boner. In addition to being so quotable, memorable, and the strength of the performances and character development.

I'd also encourage anyone to check out a British indie film called Beast, with Jessie Buckley. I'll rewatch it because I only saw it the once in the cinema but I came out of it as hyped as I was for Whiplash, so hopefully it holds up. Thunder Road too, a genius juggling act of tragedy and comedy within every scene and a terrific lead performance.

I was working on a shortlist of this around the turn of the year for my own amusement. I'll have to look back and finally get around to refining it. As well as make a tough decision at number one.

I had to leave two of these off my list and it broke my heart.

Any chance of extending this to a top 20?

I've an initial list here, so I'll look to trim it over the weekend before sending in.

    I seriously considered it

The reality though is the games countdown had tons of single nominated games with only a top ten. I fear increasing the limit would only add more to the pile, rather than increase multiple nominations.

As Dave said, keeping this to ten would make it a lot easier to manage for him. Even that was a lot to take on for me

I shall have a think and put a list together for this for sure.

Speaking of Ken Loach, I’d toss I, Daniel Blake onto the list of recommendations.

Thought Drive was late 2000s. Definitely a strong contender for me now.

    This is a great shout.

On an unrelated note, I am also considering Gerald's Game too.

I'd second Mid90s. Great directorial debut for Jonah Hill, lovely score and soundtrack.

It's a good thing I just made this list for other purposes, a neat little copy/paste and we're done.
