Cody's opponent is being hyped up by both Tony and Mox, supposedly one of the 'best indy wrestlers in the world today', and someone that hardcore fans should get excited for?

Uh, I highly doubt that's the case. They wouldn't have made a tweet or any sort of big deal over it if it was. It's not like Pillman is a surprise at this point either, he's already worked Dynamite and Dark recently

I hope it's Kingston. Trying to think realistically who'd Mox would get excited about.

I'm going to be so deflated if it's Brian Pillman Jr. Zack Ryder would cause a whole different reaction from me .

Eddie Kingston is possible. Cody has clearly noticed Kingston's name being brought up whenever he has an open challenge and with NWA going bust, now is the perfect time to introduce him.

Warhorse's name is one that comes up a lot too. And as far recently out of contract wrestlers go, Chris Hero isn't a bad shout for the surprise opponent.

Oh I thought it was said that NWA wrestlers can look for jobs elsewhere. Maybe it's a "We're still going but we won't hold you down if you want to go elsewhere" thing. I'd admire that mindset a ton.

Holy shit what an opener... Call it recency bias but that might be my favourite TV match of 2020. From the opening segment, the intensity, the selling. Two guys who are meeting each other for the first time in AEW, one of them making his first AEW appearance, convincingly making me believe they want to fight and do nothing but inflict pain to one another. Just nothing short of a great match.

It was a good match and glad the mystery challenger really was a name and didn't disappoint.

    Spoiler:

Cody: So if we're doing No DQ then I guess you'll want me to do a tacks bump, right?
Khan: What? It's just TV, we don't have to go that far.
Cody: I know you're just trying to protect me cause I'm Dusty's kid, but I have to show the boys I'm just like them and I'll do anything for AEW...
Khan: We got that after you took the lashes.
Cody: Yeah, but everyone always says I won't do a tacks bump...
    Khan: Who's saying that?!

It's been a really solid show tonight, from Kingston's debut and match with Cody, to the FCA match between The Bucks and Butcher and Blade, some decent squashes, and solid segments featuring MJF, Hangman, Omega and The Dark Order.

Sammy Guevara back too. That's a major plus for AEW.

Re: AEW Dynamite On TNT - 22/07/2020

I've yet to watch the second half of the show but that first half has got to be one of the best halfs of wrestling this year. What a fantastic use of talent that's not even on your own roster. AEW's introduction of wrestlers into their world of wrestling is nothing short of fantastic. Whenever another company brings over a newer talent and they mysteriously get over, it usually feels like a fluke (Ellsworth), but AEW have so much guys that come on and leave looking so much better and not just as another talent who came to job. Whether it's through BTE, Dark, or Dynamite, they've just done such a tremendous job with different talents.

Remember when people were concerned about the promos in this company? The first half of the show had 5 fantastic ones with Kingston, MJF, Moxley, Britt, and Taz. It'd be a real shame to not see Kingston again in the future.

The opening 15 minutes of the show was the most engaged in wrestling I've been in months, and that's the power of Eddie Kingston, someone so great he makes it feel real. Very good TV match with Cody. Get that contract partna'

Re: AEW Dynamite On TNT - 22/07/2020

Would echo the first hour of this show ruled. Marked hard for Kingston. Great promo, immediately set the scene and story of the match, and loved the "egg sucking dog" line, what a reference. Match itself ruled and was far and away better than any of the Cody vs athletic flyer guys we've seen. Cody seemed to step up and lean into that sort of match too, stiff punches and shots from both guys and the tacks spot was definitely a holy shit moment. Only issue I had was the finish felt so abrupt and Cody massively no sold to get to it, but otherwise a thumbs up. Sign Kingston!!

Bucks vs B&B was good fun too. The Blade's missed bump into the table was fucking wild. Williams is still getting there but the Blade is pretty damn good right now and the finish was a very cool visual. Also loved the incredibly campy start in the kitchenn.

Strong promo from Taz, and I am down for Starks joining him and Cage as a group. I don't know anything about Starks but am willing to see where he goes. The only issue I have with this deal is how bland Cage is and he totally doesn't feel like a guy who's a "rebel" who "'plays by his own rules" that Taz is trying to hype him as. Darby beating him for the FTW title would be a cool payoff though, he definitely fits that description a lot better. Have to imagine we get Cage/Starks vs Mox/Darby in a couple weeks maybe. I am over Moxley vs Cage but would be interested to see what Darby can do with the Machine. We also totally need to get a Moxley vs Darby title match at some point.

MJF is pretty boring in long matches, but his short squashes on TV have all been pretty fun. He beat the crap out of this kid while giving him enough to get his shots in.

Womens match was kinda whatever but both will be good additions to the roster if they keep them. AEW doesn't really have the talent for a womens tag tournament to be exciting.

Why was Omega so late to save Page? Tony said he was in the shower, but the dude didn't have a match.

Sammy G back is cool. The Circle being RAN OFF by Best Friends and OC was goofy though.

For someone who loved the "egg sucking dog" line but didn't get the reference, what was the reference? LOL
