Let's hope that's the case. Jericho did join the team to make it a 4-man booth a few weeks back and it did seem a little crowded, so let's hope JR's at home.

What an opener holy crap. Jungle Boy looked OUTSTANDING. Quite a few spots that actually had me so engaged and on my feet.

    Halfway point check-in.

Opening tag is match of the night so far. Lot of fun spots, very well paced, mostly clean execution. Jurassic's offense in particular looked pretty crisp tonight. Wardlow was well protected at the end needing to be absolutely obliterated to be put down for a pinfall. Good match.

Ford/Shida was a good women's match that continues the upward trend for the division. Sabian's involvement was way too choreographed for my liking but I think the two women brought it otherwise and Ford impressed me again.

Cody/Hager was about what I expected the match to be. Some good looks from both guys but ultimately it was the kind of match that never seemed to get totally off the ground which is common for a lot of Cody's work and Hager has yet to impress too much in AEW. Did the job, though Hager looks mad stupid for celebrating with Cody's theme blaring behind him. That spot lingered a bit too long.

    Been a fun show.

Ahhhh, Mox and Cage pushed till the 15th. Makes perfect sense and a good call by AEW.

Bruhhhh. Taz has been heat on the mic. Called WWE a "sloppy ship." If Mox isn't able to go, I wouldn't mind seeing Cage as champion now. Cage and Taz have been such a good combo.

Tough times don't last, tough people do.

Predictably, the main event was the best part of the show. The other matches left me so cold and uncaring. The tag match at least had some oomph to it. Trent's mom kissing him was hilarious. And they set up potential match ups for FTR well.

And its only right that postponed Moxley vs Cage. Its not too long anyway.

Re: AEW Presents: Fyter Fest 07/01/20 - 07/08/20 (2 Nights)

I'm on a different vibe to the rest of ya'll. I thought that opening tag was pretty mediocre. It was laid out well with a heel tag structure, but MJF is incredibly boring when controlling a match and Luchasaurus is one of the lightest workers going, let alone one of the lightest big men workers. His hot tag was going well but then I almost burst out laughing once he started with the shitty karate kicks that barely touch his opponents. This guy is the next Kane. Jungle Boy and Wardlow feel like young guys with potential. They aren't there yet, but will continue to get better. Feels like it's early to tease MJF-Wardlow dissension.

Shida vs Ford was well laid out, but good grief was some of the execution bad. The slaps, punches, all of the basic staple offence looked divas level bad. Not a bad match but nothing great either.

Cody vs Hager was above expectations. Hager's best match in AEW so far and I thought better than Cody vs Archer. I expected this to be a dud but turned out pretty fun despite the dumb finish.

Santana & Ortiz vs Private Party was pretty whatever.

Forced myself to watch the main event and it was fine. I was expecting a tedious PWG style "epic" but thankfully they kept it more reined in and was better for it. It was nothing special, but it wasn't offensive either. Final minutes between Page and Trent were decent.

Re: AEW Presents: Fyter Fest 07/01/20 - 07/08/20 (2 Nights)

I’ve only seen a couple of matches but I do find my problem at times is how overproduced the matches are, in the tag team match with Wardlow/MJF vs Jurassic Express, the whole kip-up into the double clothesline exchange, then into the flying clothesline and Canadian Destroyer just felt so OTT and unnecessary. The whole overuse of the Canadian Destroyer isn’t AEW’s fault but I do think that they suffer at time’s for having these chain mail spots that just feel so over-rehearsed and MJF completely no-sold the CD spot to give a super kick (another overused move) and then sell the CD. I’m also confused, the Dynamite Diamond, what is the point in this other than giving MJF a weapon to use in every match? I think it was surprise to me with the outcome, Wardlow looked really good here and I feel like they need to just take their time with him and build him up, I can definitely see a star on him.

The other matches which felt a bit produced was Shida vs Ford, I like both of these competitors and after a shaky start it feels that the women’s division finally has someone at the forefront with Shida as the champion and I love Ford’s style - I just wish she expanded her move-set. I just hated the spot where Ford no-sells the Falcon Arrow and rolls Shida up, only to take a move in the corner and essentially have to oversell that move to allow Shida to climb the ropes. I know it adds to the narrative that Shida took too long, which allowed Ford to use the matrix evasion but it was complete dramatic irony, we could see Ford timing and waiting for that for a good minute before it happened. I agree that the Sabian spot looked really choreographed, even the way he essentially throws the kendo stick over.

I need to watch the rest of the show, I think like anything there’s highs and lows, I just think sometimes there seems to be these PPV tropes that AEW/WWE/Impact use to give this big-time vibe but because they’ve been overused, the effect becomes diluted.

Anyone else starting to find themselves rooting for Cage to take the belt off Mox? Taz has just been so good alongside him. It's like Taz/Joe in TNA gone right.

Taz has been awesome. I'm really down for him managing other guys and maybe even a faction. Zero interest in Cage but Taz has been knocking it out the park the last month or so.

Cage has filler contender written all over him, the perfect guy for Mox to go over in between big PPVs and even in the middle of pandemic with crowdless shows. Taz has done a splendid job behind him making it a more compelling match, but when the match actually goes down and the Taz effect is worn off, I think we'll be more happy to have a champion like Mox who can carry himself on the mic and in the ring.

Definitely down to give Taz a few more people and build a stable around Cage if you want. Maybe he can impress me with further work but at the very least I think he'd be a great midcard prescene with Taz talking for him. But I don't want him as world champ.

Night 1 was a bit of a dud for me. The main event was the only match that really compelled me. Some of the booking and segments though were solid - Taz's promo being a huge highlight and the closing segment with the Bucks/FTR/Kenny and Hangman intriguing me. With the World Title match being pushed back another week, I'm not sure how night 2 is looking. The 8 man tag will be fun, and who knows how OC/Jericho will play out. Could be decent, but I'm not expecting to be blown away.

I enjoyed the opening tag match but I definitely agree that AEW's matches seem extremely overproduced at times and incredibly unrealistic. Quite regularly, superstars will "spike" their opponents on their heads and they recover within 5-10 seconds. It seems like a spotfest and it spoils the believably for me. WWE's style is the opposite of this as seen on SD last night when Riddle/Morrison were working and Riddle seemed taken aback by an elbow.

There is a photo of him backstage in his new gear as well. So I expect him to show up soon whether its on DARK or Dynamite.

Week 1 was weak but it was to be expected. Week 2 has the better matches. I fully expect the 8 man tag to be very good. The Bucks and FTR are good enough to offset the other two teams who have remained unimpressive. Orange Cassidy is always a blast.

That's cool. I enjoy him in MLW, and whilst AEW is the bigger platform, I feel MLW is better for his progression as a performer for now. AEW is way too crowded for a rookie like him.

That said, AEW are running shows and MLW aren't.

They could just be feeling out Pillman Jr for a Cody title match but not signing him full time, because he's someone you can definitely do a nice story with and Cody loves any old link to WCW. I'd agree with Dave that I think it would be better for his development to stay in MLW for a bit longer, there's only so much he's going to improve working squash matches on Dark, but if a major promotion offers you your first contract you should probably take it, especially in the current climate.
