All Elite Wrestling Aubrey Edwards Confirms That AEW Video Game Is In Production, ‘Definitely A Ways Out’

While guesting on the Talk is Jericho podcast this week, AEW referee Aubrey Edwards confirms that she and Kenny Omega are hard at work on the league’s video game debut. She also confirms that gamers still have a long wait before they’ll be able to act out their own virtual rendition of Stadium Stampede

"I’m working on the AEW video game. I can’t actually talk too much about it. I don’t know what I can say. I mean, we’re very, very early on, there’s a lot of things that we’re talking about. I talk to Kenny a lot about what he wants out of it, but it’s definitely a ways out. I’m not gonna put a number on it because I don’t want the internet to get mad at me but…"

Both Omega and Edwards have close ties to the gaming industry, so it makes sense that they’d be working with a developer partner on the project. Aubrey was a video game producer in another life and Omega is a lifelong gamer who has appeared at numerous conventions and in commercials for popular titles.

With those types of connections and the right team behind it, AEW could start a whole new Wednesday Night War on Xbox Live and PSN.

How do you feel about this? Will you be buying the game?

Video games always feel very "16-year-old me"-ish, which I think is the last time I played Smackdown v Raw 2008.

Not really into video games but I'll give it a go if it looks good. I imagine there is a massive cross-over of AEW fans and video-gamers, especially Kenny fans. I can see it doing well

With how much shit the last installments of the WWE 2k games were, it could be an easy field to beat them into submission with the right developer.

I'd be all over a new wrestling video game in the hope that'd be at least decent. Would be a step up from the current product we get every year.

    Watching this space.

Considering the fact that there's been one main proper non-WWE wrestling video game in the last two decades, an AEW game would have a lot of potential to gain a lot of interest.

With the AKI engine, it could be great but I do agree. If the CAW system is decent there's no reason for me not to give it a shot no matter what.

I'll probably not bother with it unless it really does look awesome.

Buying an AEW game to download a load of WWE wrestlers from their create a wrestler option we're hoping it has doesn't really appeal to me.

So, unless they've got like a GM Mode, an original story mode or like some kind of formation of a career mode that looks appealing; I'll leave it most likely.

2K have gone so shit with the WWE game so it shouldn't be that hard to compete or be better than honestly Haha!

Well it can't possibly be worse than TNA's effort back in the day.

It'll be interesting to see which developer they exactly get to work on it down the line.

A few options I'd like to see from it is a CAW, GM Mode, and maybe even something like a season mode from the old SmackDown! games.
