SD Live WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Discussion - May 29, 2020

    Friday Night Smackdown Preview
    May 29, 2020

Jeff Hardy looks to keep comeback rolling against Daniel Bryan

In the first round of the Intercontinental Championship Tournament, Jeff Hardy proved his unending perseverance, and Daniel Bryan exhibited his incredible technical prowess. Now the two former Intercontinental Champions will put their skills to the test with a finals opportunity on the line.

The Charismatic Enigma shocked The Celtic Warrior when he pulled out a victory, despite a confident Sheamus controlling long stretches of the match. Bryan was tested by his training partner, but the veteran Superstar outlasted Drew Gulak in a display of grappling ability.

Will Hardy keep his comeback moving forward? Or will Bryan’s in-ring polish be too much to overcome?

Tune in to SmackDown at 8/7 C on FOX to see who punches their ticket to the tournament finals.

Elias and AJ Styles set to battle for tournament finals appearance

AJ Styles is officially back on the blue brand. Is a reign as Intercontinental Champion ahead of him? Elias is hoping to sing a different tune when he meets The Phenomenal One in the semifinals of the Intercontinental Championship Tournament.

After being traded to SmackDown for future considerations, Styles announced his presence with a thrilling win over Shinsuke Nakamura. Elias got the opportunity for payback when he knocked King Corbin out the bracket with a hard-fought victory in the opening round.

Can Elias claim another win, or is the tournament destined for a “Too Sweet” outcome?

Catch SmackDown at 8/7 C on FOX to see who will come out on top.

Social media exchange sets up match between Lacey Evans and Sonya Deville

Sonya Deville’s confidence continues to grow following recent triumphs over her former best friend Mandy Rose. Deville’s most recent social media barbs for Mandy caused Lacey Evans to spit out her tea at the accusation that being pretty and blonde is the only way to get opportunities in WWE.

Deville fired back and told The Sassy Southern Belle to request the match, as she’d be ready for the latest challenge.

Will Evans put a halt to Deville’s recent run of success?

Catch SmackDown at 8/7 C on FOX as Deville looks to keep rolling against The Sassy Southern Belle

Catch Tag Team Summit edition of "A Moment of Bliss" as the New Day stops by

It’s a strict bring-your-own-titles policy for a special edition of “A Moment of Bliss” this week on SmackDown. The New Day will join Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross for a special Tag Team Champion Summit on the acclaimed talk show.

What plans will the titleholders have in store, and will they reveal any upcoming plans for their reigns?

Don’t miss the must-see celebration on Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 C on FOX.

First ever Bryan/Hardy match? Feels like it. I'm sure the GOAT will get something watchable.

I wouldn't be so sure Hardy can carry a past-his-prime Bryan to anything good, honestly.

They had a really good match last year (or year before?). I think it was literally Bryan's first Smackdown match back from returning.

Quite the time and way to decide to start being edgy again.

I'm not particularly irked by this angle because it seems obvious that what has happened is someone framed Hardy for drinking and driving, which to me at least is better than doing an angle where Hardy truly is drinking and driving.

    We'll see.

Yes, it's obviously a swerve and Jeff wasn't actually drunk. But that's not the point. It's that Vince and WWE have no issues having an angle that still exploits the significant substance issues Jeff Hardy has. Because of how disastrous Jeff's life outside of the ring has been, you can - and are led to - believe that Jeff Hardy did relapse, was drunk driving, and ran over somebody.

Just because the end result will be, "see, he wasn't actually drunk, it was a set up" doesn't change the fact that it's all about exploiting a pretty awful issue for a cheap storyline ploy. It's NO different than what they were doing with Hawk 21 years ago. It's disgusting.

I mean Jeff Hardy is my fav wrestler of all time he obviously give the ok with it. I mean this isn't the first angle where Jeff personal life is being exploited.

Yes, but just because Jeff Hardy is agreeing to the angle doesn't suddenly make a really shitty story not be shitty and tasteless. Hawk still ultimately agreed to do a storyline of being drunk, and all of the shenanigans that went along with it. And it's still one of the worst pieces of wrestling storylines ever.

Ok but Scott Hall and Hawk were drunk in storyline, and Jeff isn't. So how is that not different?

Because it's still THE SAME CONCEPT. Do you really not get how the concept is still exploiting the very real demons of a wrestler for entertainment purposes? Yes, the ultimate swerve will be Jeff wasn't actually drunk and didn't relapse, but it is still very much the same concept. We as viewers are supposed to believe it's a drunk guy getting behind the wheel and hitting someone. It's all about exploiting the real life alcohol issues of a performer for entertainment purposes. I'm glad you're entertained, I guess

He came back at the end of the episode to attack Sheamus, it's not like they even let the question of whether or not he had relapsed linger for more than an episode. This to me doesn't feel as much as like an exploitation than an acknowledgement, but I can understand there's a fine line there and I don't blame you for seeing it the way you do. I'm not really particularly entertained by the angle, just not offended by it. Enjoy being upset, I guess.

Not sure what was worse having that weird storyline which will no doubt end up feeding into the hacker bit and lead to it being someone out of the blue (It's too obvious to be Sheamus or Corbin) or having Angle hyping up Riddle.

This angle will look terrible when Jeff gets picked up for another DUI in a week.

Stole the words straight from my mouth.

But we all know who was behind the run down.. hint.. he did it for Sheamus.. much like he did it for The Rock...

Would be a far better option as he was taking out some of the competition. I do kind of hope Sami returns and causes a no contest in the final to setup a triple threat as that could be fun.

Do we think Kurt Angle is going to be paired with Matt Riddle? I actually think that could work but it did seem a rather weird one-off thing.

    Also, Jason Jordan appearance
