    Direction of the TNT Championship?

Originally, I think the consensus was that it was too soon for an introduction of a midcard belt when the promotion first opened doors. This was a take that I 100% agreed with. I think guys gained a lot more credibility when they were unknowns that fought for possible opportunities to compete for the World title, as opposed to if there was a midcard championship to fight over straight out of the gate. It also reminded me of when I first got into TNA and all they had were the World, X, and Tag Belts. It never felt overbearing and felt like the right amount of titles. I also feel they were really well booked back then as well, but this isn't a TNA thread so that's for another time. Now that we've got a roster that fans are more familiarised with, it was probably a good time to bring in a new belt.

Now albeit, I think the thing was atrociously designed. I don't care if it's supposed to model after an old NWA belt, or if it's slightly incomplete (allegedly they're adding some gold and changing the TNT logo). It's just kind of sad that after they made fun of the 24/7 title, they come out with something that's almost on par to it. Now who knows, maybe it'll grow on me overtime, maybe the changes to it will be significant enough to make up for it, only time will tell.

My question is, what direction do you think or want to see the belt take over the next course of 6-12 months? Do you want to see this belt frequently defended on TV? Do you want Cody to hold it for an entire year?

I'm personally hoping Cody does hold it for a long time. He's ineligible to compete for the world title and he's the perfect guy to establish credibility to the belt. Whether some of his matches fall short of their build, it's undeniable that he consistently is involved in the most interesting and/or well-built angles. That surely can do nothing but good things for a new belt. I don't really know who on the roster I'd like to see take the belt from him other than Sammy either.

I don't think Cody will hold it for a year uninterrupted, however I imagine he will float around the belt for a significant amount of time unless he decides to go for the tag straps.

Sammy, Darby & MJF have gotta be the main shouts as far as contenders go. Trent has also done enough singles work to be a realistic challenger. As far as everyone else goes, I guess that's the point of the belt, to start elevating them up the card.

I think the direction goes Cody vs MJF feuding for the title for a while. Similar to the Dusty vs Tully feud. The amount of times it's depended should depend on the holder. For someone like Cody, you can say he's a fighting champion and takes on all challengers then MJF wins it, doesn't defend it at all and says only on PPVs or special episodes. It further sets those two apart.

The challengers could be anyone at first, give the midcarder a showcase which fits in with the Cody taking on all challengers ideas.

First of all. The belt is horrible and cheap looking. I guess they know that too if the reports are that there's unfinished work on it - I guess that's a lesson for them to learn that you get your props sorted before jumping head on into the tournament. They're already on the backfoot of making it feel important when it was revealed that Cody and Archer were fighting over something that looked like it was designed on 'Create-A-Belt' 10 years ago on WWE 2k.

I remember when the news came out they were having a secondary title that I backed Cody to win it on the grounds that he can't go after the world title and as the most over act he could really establish it. However, that means we're currently in a position where both singles titles are fought under old school 'smoke and mirrors' style booking, Jericho's reign was full of matches like it, Cody's matches tend to be quite like that and Moxley/Archer had to have that dumb storyline and the Bam Bam spot stage spot. What might of made a nice change is if the TNT title was more about workrate and the title that's contending for MOTN honours. Have it fought around the guys like PAC, Darby, Fenix, Sammy, Trent that aren't stars that you could buy winning the world title right now, but could believably contend for the TNT title.

To answer one of the questions though, I think Cody's gonna keep it for 6 months. He ain't losing before fans are allowed back in arenas at least. I could see them going back to the MJF feud that way, but MJF is already 1-0 up Cody, so you're really going all in on MJF and dragging out him getting his comeuppance from Cody if he loses again.

I can’t see Cody holding it for very long. I would like to see guys like Darby, Sammy, and Trent holding and gunning for the title.

Re: Direction of the TNT Championship?

I'd be fairly open to the idea that the TNT Championship would be regularly defended on TV (Ala TV Championship) but I'm really not keen on the name. As a UK fan, shouldn't the belt be called the "ITV Championship"?

As for contender, there's plenty of them. One of the main positives about AEW imo is that there's plenty of stars with a lot of potential (Jungle Boy, Brian Cage, Luke Harper - If he isn't ready for a main event programme, MFJ, Sammy Guevara, Darby among others).

Really can't see that happening. Aside from Dustin, who would he team with?
