I'm going with Nigel here. His fire burns out more quickly than Finlay's does, but it also burns much hotter. When I drop into Nigel mid 2000s matches I feel like I'm watching someone who is a WOTYC level guy, and I never really get that with Finlay. Finlay feels more of a very good worker who wasn't afforded enough opportunities in his career to show how great he was so there's only a smattering of top quality work in a long career.

Now here's a match that would've rocked if it ever happened.

Nigel easy. Finlay never hit Nigel's highs.

Is this the ultimate peak vs longevity match we've seen so far?

Finlay was maybe the best guy in the WWE in 2006 if that means much.

Love Nigel, always been a huge fan, but going to Fit here. The guy has, what, 3 decades of being a great worker, in a range of settings from WWE, WCW, the UK wrestling scene, Europe and various US indys. He doesn't have the a top end list of matches compared to a guy like Nigel as he was never a main eventer, but he is maybe the best ever at working with young/less developed guys and not just carrying them to a good match but making them a better wrestler while doing it. That's quite an impressive accolade to wear. Nigel was a truly top tier but even then was he even a top 5 all-time ROH guy?

I expect Finlay to get crushed here but I'm throwing him my vote. His career is much more 'hidden' than Nigel's but every Finlay match I've watched has always felt worth finding.

I think a lot of people would say yeah. He's not a sure thing like Bryan Danielson, but I'm willing to say more would say yes than no.

It's close. I'd say Danielson, Joe, Ki and Aries above sure. Punk and Homicide maybe. So actually yeah fair enough Top 5 he probably is.
