I enjoyed a lot of this PPV, and while part of the favorability probably comes from a dearth of other entertainment, I'm not at all mad that my friends and I split the $50 for this.

Ladder match was a typical ladder match, Cassidy's part in it was fantastic, I wish Darby had gotten more shine in the match, and I don't care about Brian Cage at all, so I didn't really care about the finish. What I really don't get though, why was Kip Sabian in the match at all when Jimmy Havoc did most of the spots, just put Havoc in the match, don't make me yawn with someone like Sabian when you're gonna have Havoc do the work anyway. Janela still sucks.

MJF vs Jungle Boy was different than I expected and I thought it ended up being really good, even if it had a slow start. I did genuinely think that MJF was going to get a cheating quick finish in for more heel heat, but the match did them both good.

Cody vs Archer didn't do much for me, I was kind of hoping for a spot with Jake/Arn and either a DDT or a spinebuster, especially after Arn's promo, but oh well. I'm excited for Cody to drop the belt soon.

Statlander vs Ford I definitely didn't care about, and it didn't do much for me. Was the worst part of the night for me.

Rhodes vs Spears went basically how I expected it, minus the amount that I saw Shawn Spears' ass. I like Spears for some reason, but I'd enjoy him more in a real match.

Shida vs Rose I thought was a good bout. I enjoyed the spots and the build up to the match. I don't much care about Nyla Rose the wrestler, which is more because Beast Heels don't do much for me, so I'm glad that Shida got the win.

Moxley vs Lee I liked the match, though I didn't really get it. If they wanted to do everything they did, it should've just been a No DQ match from the outset. I also didn't really like Lee bleeding after the entrance spot.

Stadium Stampede was my favorite part, even if it felt a tad long, but this alone was worth the price of watching. Some of the transitions were rough, but I thought they overall had a great balance of comedy/serious. The "poor Sammy" parts of it I enjoyed, and the Hot Tub was also fantastic.

My honest biggest complaint about the card was the structure, the first three matches kind of left me exhausted, then 10 minutes for two matches, then right back into it. I also didn't like the "NO DQ, NO COUNTOUT" match followed by the "REGULAR, BUT WE'RE NOT DQING" match.

Overall though, a nice little ppv.

Re: AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

Only had time to watch to watch the main event of the show which I thought was fantastic entertainment. It was a touch too long, could of cut 5 minutes from it I think, but I'll let the self indulgence go when it produces more hits than misses. I think this might be the best showcase of how polar opposite WWE and AEW are when it comes to creativity - MITB's ladder match was long, painful, dull, repetitive and unfunny where the idea of a joke was some random cameo by someone in their 50s saying a catchphrase and everyone in the match looked like an idiot, it was a comedy match for the Little Britain fan. AEW's comedy match had clever and creative use of the environments, had many gifable moments to be an online hit, kept everyone in character in trying to end this stable feud, had callback spots that made sense (Sammy being chased down by things, Hangman drinking but Kenny abstaining), and some of the jokes were legitimately funny. Matt doing the bridging northern lights across the length of the field was great, Hangman on the horse was gold and I got a kick out of the ref going to a video replay. This far exceeded my expectations, absolute triumph.

Will try and watch Mox/Lee later today.

After an emotionally draining week for wrestling fans, this was a much needed fun show. Stadium Stampede and MJF/Jungle Boy were the highlights for me but I dug Shida and Rose a lot too.

I gave up on this PPV way too early but the first bit of it just took me out of it completely, caught up with it, and regretted missing out. Turned out pretty solid for what it was.

Someone give Sammy Guevara the world title. He's absolute gold. Stadium Stampede was great, went a touch too long but overall it was a very enjoyable watch.

Re: AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

Just got done watching this; I thought it was okay overall. Nothing amazing.

Skipped the ladies matches because I have no interest in anything AEW female related outside of Britt Baker. Two duds for Champion's was enough for me. I do quite like Shida so hopefully she can win me around now I know she's Champion.

The ladder match was horrendous. It felt like something I'd watch when a small time indy promotion comes to a local sports gym and charges £5 entry. Just felt so, I don't know, low budget. Even the red ladders made it all seem so fake and there was so many times where they went from obvious spot to obvious spot. Brian Cage is a good addition; maybe the only positive.

MJF vs Jungle Boy was perhaps my favourite match. I thought this came across great and both looked good. MJF is so good, they can't hold him back any longer. He's been the best heel in the company since day one IMO.

Dustin vs Spears, it was okay for what it was.

Cody vs Archer was good. I enjoyed that.

Brodie vs Mox was pretty decent. It went better than I thought it would but like I hoped it would. Be interesting to see where Brodie goes from here. Him passing out obviously keeps the story going.

The Stadium Stampede had some really fun moments that I liked; but it was too much. It ended up becoming goofy and to corny for my taste. Credit for coming up with something different though and being creative. I agree with Order and seeing Matt Hardy face down in the pool like he drowned wasn't exactly the cleverest idea after the Shad tragedy.

Your thoughts on the Stadium Stampede come across as very ironic given what's in your signature. Humor and entertainment is of course subjective. Even corniness is subjective. But I have to say, I give these guys full credit for embracing the idiocy and keeping this thing totally lighthearted. Even the bar fight scene which was the most potentially "legit" section of the match was capped off with Hangman and Kenny toasting with their whiskey and milk. The Boneyard Match on the other hand was ridiculous but it felt like there was way more ironic laughs in that match, especially on Taker's end as he tried to play it completely straight and come across like some kind of John Wayne character. That's a lot cornier from my perspective than what AEW put on. But that's just how I perceived things, and of course for all I know, those gifs in your sig might be ironic as well.

As for the pool segment, everyone is entitled to react how they feel appropriate but I think that part was at worst untimely. It wasn't like it was some kind of ghoulish reference to what had happened. It's not like Shad was physically drowned to death by someone. And it's not like drowning/being dunked in water isn't a well established part of Matt's Broken gimmick. They didn't just come up with the idea after what happened to Shad. It was 99% harmless, it was just some unfortunate timing but ultimately benign and certainly not something I can see getting worked up about.

I will say, I think you're missing out by not watching Shida vs. Rose. It was a quality brawl, and the best Women's Title match yet. Plus if you like Shida, I think this match will really reinforce that, because she comes out of it looking awesome. Would recommend giving a watch.

I think it’s because water has been established as part of Broken Matt’s act, that it was in a tiny shallow pool instead of a beach, and I was so invested in the humour and excitement, that any connection to Shad went completely over my head.

Not really that ironic I don't think. There was much of this match I liked and found funny- but as I said, it got too much, it became very slapstick and went from silly segment to silly segment and it wasn't short enough for my taste to remain fun. Some of the production and cuts was off as well. It's funny you say that, because the bit I enjoyed most about the match was the Hangman stuff and the bar segment because as you said, while funny, it came across as the most legit and suited the character of Hangman very well. Also, I'm not even sure why you felt the need to compare it to the Boneyard match like it's a competition? Or if you liked one, you have to like the other or something. A more fitting comparison would have been the MITB match to be totally honest if you had to do one, I think. Anyway, If you enjoyed it, awesome! I think most people did and that's great. Certainly applaud their creativity in doing something different under difficult circumstances.

As you said, it's subjective of course, so unsure why you felt the need to reply to me directly to begin with especially when I could flip it totally around and use your logic and say, well you liked this, but didn't like the boneyard match.. That's ironic. That would be very simplistic thinking though and opinions don't work like that.

Very untimely on the pool part. It's not like I'm saying they completely came up with that idea to reference it or anything, that would be silly. There was obviously no malice, but still doesn't change the fact that both me and Order felt the same when we watched it- no doubt others would have as well. Worked up about it? Dude, nobodies getting worked up about it Haha! It's a thread for Double or Nothing; I'm just saying what I thought.

I tried with Nyla Rose, just not for me. It's like watching an even worse Nia Jax. Glad you enjoyed the match! Hopefully Shida has a good run with the belt now :D

Just making an observation really. I did enjoy the Boneyard Match for what it's worth. But I also thought it was very over the top and hilarious when Taker was surrounded by the druids and gave them the "let's do this" line. There's a pretty clear basis for comparison being that they're cinematic PPV main events. I didn't compare it to MITB because there wasn't a gif from MITB in your sig. I think I was trying to segue into a conversation about the cinematic matches that have been produced but I can see the way I went about it was dickish, so that's on me. My bad.

Also, didn't mean to come across accusatory with the pool portion. I wasn't trying to imply that either of you believed it was done maliciously. Just giving my take on that and laying out the reasons why I don't think they were out of line for including it.

I can understand the standpoint on Nyla because I probably would have skipped it too if I wasn't watching the show live. I think you're missing out though.

Yeah, I'm 100% on the train of skipping everything Nyla Rose, but this match was actually watchable/good.

Didn't think Mox/Lee was all that good. Really uneventful and had no drama until the stage spot, and when Lee comes up and they go straight into the Paradigm shift I thought they had a great finish on their hands. Then they ruined it by having him kick out of it twice.

Re: AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

Ladder opener - Decent enough opener. The day before I watched this I wondered what Brian Cage was up to. Not sure if it was rumoured that he’d be in the match or not. Either way I’m off to do the lottery with my new found clairvoyant skills.

Jungle Boy/MJF - This started a bit slow for me but by the end I think this ended up being a really nice match. Down the stretch both men were unable to pull off moves due to the damage they’d taken and that is always a big plus for me. Possibly both men’s best outing so far.

Cody/Archer - This was good but nowhere near as good as I was hoping for. Not sure why. I don’t think there was too much outside shenanigans to hurt the match. Too long maybe? Iron Mike was loving it though. Thought this would be higher up the card.

Ford/Statlander - Fine. Ford’s strikes look like she’s trying not to hurt her opponent. Breaks the immersion somewhat. Correct winner going forward.

Spears/Dustin - I didn’t mind this as much as some for a bit of filler. Weird card placement again.

Rose/Shida - Good brawl this. Glad to see Shida with the belt. The match quality of title defences should be a lot higher now.

Moxley/Lee - I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would, even if it was pretty similar to the last match. I’m not usually a big fan of matches that spend a lot of time on the outside, but I was into this one. Finish was somewhat abrupt and I’m not sure I’d have the second Paradigm shift kicked out of. Would’ve maybe been better to go straight for the choke after Lee kicked out of the first one.

Stadium Stampede - I didn’t know what to expect from this going in, but I absolutely loved it. So many memorable moments from this, too many to list but I had a blast watching this. This match made me think about how and why we consume wrestling. If it’s to be entertained then I’d quite happily rate this 5*, even though I think most would concur that by a conventional metric it’s not a 5* match. Watching this is the most I’ve been entertained watching wrestling this year, but I don’t know if it will be my MOTY as that is based more on my enjoyment of traditional wrestling over an entertaining spectacle. I’m probably just rambling on here.

Overall I enjoyed this PPV. It started well, drifted a bit in the middle and finished strong. This is the second AEW PPV in a row I’ve come away from thinking they need to have a look at the match placements going forward though.
