SD Live WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Discussion - February 28, 2020

    Friday Night Smackdown Preview
    February 28, 2020

New Universal Champion Goldberg will be live on Smackdown

Goldberg is headed to Friday Night SmackDown, and he’s bringing the Universal Title with him.

The WWE Hall of Famer sent shockwaves through the sports entertainment world when he defeated “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at WWE Super ShowDown. Instead of who’s next, the WWE Universe will be wondering what’snext for Goldberg as he heads into his second reign as Universal Champion.

Will “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt reemerge to confront the first man to stop his twisted rampage? Or will Goldberg target a new member of Team Blue?

Tune in to Friday Night SmackDown on FOX at 8/7 C to catch the new Universal Champion’s next move.

John Cena returns to Smackdown tonight

John Cena will return to SmackDown tonight, as Team Blue continues down The Road to WrestleMania.

It was on SmackDown where The Cenation Leader made his dynamic debut nearly 18 years ago, when he channeled “Ruthless Aggression” to challenge WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle in his debut match. Since that fateful night, Cena went on to become WWE’s standard-bearer, earning 16 World Championships and inspiring countless WWE fans to “Never Give Up.”

An icon in the ring and the star of such blockbuster films as “Bumblebee,” “Blockers” and the upcoming “F9: The Fast Saga,” Cena will soon bring his signature “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” back to SmackDown, as first reported by WWE Backstage on FS1.

Although you can see him on SmackDown later this month, Cena took to Twitter to joke about all the times he has told us we, well, can’t.

Whatever this unparalleled Superstar has planned, you won’t want to miss it. Catch Cena’s return to SmackDown tonight on FOX.

Cena and Goldberg might be the future, but The Undertaker is the present.

Gotta love how lazy these set ups are tonight. Roman said ‘he’s next’ and just got a mania title shot as easy as that, and fiend shows up to point at the mania sign as if he was any other character.

that tag chamber all but confirms revival are done in WWE.

Last time Goldberg defended the title at Wrestlemania, the set up was pretty lazy then, too.

Re: WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Discussion - February 28, 2020

The SmackDown side of WrestleMania looks terrible and thrown together imo.

On one hand I get that since Reigns was always going to be the one challenging for the title, there was no need for a predictable chamber match but on the other hand, all he did to secure a title match was to come out and say he's next. That's lazy booking at its finest. It's going to take a huge effort to get me invested in this match.

Not a fan of another Cena vs. Wyatt WrestleMania match either. Zero build, zero interest, zero point.

As it stands the only SmackDown match for WrestleMania that may be worth watching will be Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler, if it happens at all, and that is saying something.

Also why the heel didn't the heel fiend attack the hometown hero?

Awesome booking by the SD guys again haha, another hangover from a Saudi show.

Re: WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Discussion - February 28, 2020

I really dont see the point in bringing Sasha back for that. She may as well have just stayed out injured. She must regret coming back at all last year, though her only other option was to sit at home under contract for years until she's finally released.

The Roman - Goldberg set up was lazy as. Why doesn't every Wrestler just do that? We have these Contenders matches from time to time, then we just have Roman saying two words and he gets a WrestleMania World Title shot.

Having the new Tag Champs lose their next match after becoming Champs was dumb as well, but typical WWE.

Pretty dumb show all round really. I think the fact the set ups to the two biggest SDL matches was so lazy and uneventful really hurts as well. Whys The Fiend of all characters pointing at the WM sign?

Cena: "Wrestlemania spots are earned, not demanded"

    *Two hours earlier*

Roman gets a Universal Title match at Wrestlemania by essentially demanding that he's next.

Reigns has atleast won his last 2 PPV matches and in kayfabe terms is probably the highest ranked guy on the roster. That is less egregious than a lot of the other shit this company has done this week.

Being less shit than other shit doesn't make it not shit though.

A World Title match, at Wrestle fucking Mania, should never be set up by a wrestler just coming out to say "I'm next." It's shit. Lazy shit.

Re: WWE Friday Night Smackdown Live Discussion - February 28, 2020

I do think that it didn’t need to be for the championship but it is what it is. I’m still kind of hyped for the match I can’t lie, and the build could be fun.

The Fiend pointing at the Mania sign was silly looking but I still thought the segment was well done imo. Cena will be putting over The Fiend now and Bray gets his long awaited revenge on Cena. It’s not appealing to some (understandably so), but I’m hyped for it because it means we get more Cena on TV.

This was overall a decent show imo. The contract signing segment was kind of fun and Miz/Morrison vs The Usos was good stuff.

I mean, he went back on his word in just a few minutes. Why not have Fiend knock him out in front of the hometown crowd and THEN have Cena accept the challenge a week later or even in a segment during the Chamber PPV? Give Cena a REASON to go back on his word and have a match at WrestleMania. Wyatt pointing at the sign isn't good enough.

On the Universal title side, would it really hurt them to have the steel cage match between Reigns and Corbin be a #1 contender's match? Explain why Reigns is the number one contender instead of just handing him the spot?

Come on, even I could book that shit better.

This. The amount of people still trying to defend this garbage is bat shit fucking crazy to me. This is terrible booking and the WWE doesn't care one bit. And honestly, why should they? They can half ass it, and still have fans defending their shit product
