So good first round matches in there, stunned we're seeing Shingo Vs Ospreay in the first round, and things like Henare/Ishii, Suzuki/Kojima and Ibushi/Sabre Jr also jump out at me. I actually think Okada might beat White just on how the brackets work out because I can't see something like Jay White Vs Minoru Suzuki working.

Ishii can pretty easily get to the semi final, so I think he's in with a real shot at this. Ishii/KENTA final I think is on the cards.

Re: NJPW New Japan Cup 2020

I think SANADA makes the final and very easily could win this whole tournament which plays into what they're doing with both him and LIJ now. Whoever wins between Jay/Okada makes the final. I think it might be Okada actually as well.

A lot of these matches in the first round are rematches and honestly not that interesting to me to see ran back again. The second round has a number of matches I think could be fun.

Okada vs SANADA finals? That makes sense, it's maybe not preferable because the amount of times they faced each other last year but it'll be a big match with more to it than a random finals.

I can see it going either way with how they usually book. White beating SANADA at New Beginning, if they was going with SANADA, could come into play.

From memory it's only really the semis and finals that usually turn out any good. Some big matches in the first rounds here but the tendency is for them to phone it in or just repeat previous stuff.

Looking at the Korakeun shows the interesting matches are:

Ishii vs Henare, 4/3 - main event and they had a really good match a couple years ago
Potentially Okada vs Nagata or Suzuki, 12/3
Potentially Juice vs Finlay, 12/3 - FinJuice explodes

Looks like the tour is cancelled. Shame because there is some great looking matches but the right decision ultimately. New Japan might be back for Sakura Genesis, maybe not even then.

It's weird, for sure. I'm replacing current wrestling with 90s and 80s wrestling. But the people that don't really gravitate to that, like yourself, are pretty stumped.

Weird, I had just assume like Zack that Will was living in Japan.

starting with the weakest day it looks like.

Yes! It's about time the Juniors were included in the New Japan Cup in someway. Some first round match-ups are intriguing. Like Okada vs Gedo, Sho vs Shingo, Ibushi and ZSJ. It's fairly unpredictable the further down the tournament goes in terms of potential match ups. Should be fun.

He stated at the BOSJ Finals last year that he was moving to Japan wasn't he? Unless he wanted to stay in the UK through COVID-19 with the NHS and everything.

He did that Wrestletalk show match with Bea just as lockdown was kicking in, so I assume both are still based here. Which is pretty crazy considering how much time both spend abroad. I seem to remember him saying he wanted to relocate to NZ/Aus before his Japan push kicked off so who knows what he actually plans to do.

This version of the NJC is significantly, significantly better than the one in March.

Pleasantly surprised by the bracket. I've no idea what's going to happen other than people going apeshit because a Junior won't win the cup. Hiromu has a promising bracket.

    Never know though - it's UNPRECEDENTED~~~!

Re: NJPW New Japan Cup 2020

First day of the New Japan Cup was an okay one. The main event - Ishii vs Desperado - is the only match out of the 4 Cup matches I think are worth seeing. Perhaps Hiromu vs Honma if you want to see how Hiromu matches up to a low-ranking heavyweight. I thought it was good in the end but was too much of the match was awfully paced. It didn't get exciting until the near end. Yano vs Jado was awful. Even if you're a fan of Yano's comedy, skip this. Ishii vs Despy was awesome. They played off the height differences early on and did some cool stuff with it. You get some great, nail-biting nearfalls too.

Re: NJPW New Japan Cup 2020

I thought Hiromu/Honma was the better match but I won't argue the main event. They were about equal to me, good but not great. Ishii will do better against others.

    Looking forward to Nagata/Suzuki.

Tomorrow''s show looks super good. Easily the best of the first round shows. Sho and Shingo II should be exciting.
