    MLB 2019-20 MLB Offseason Thread

This is probably the last you'll see of me here, but hey, that there hot stove is pre-heating. The Nationals are fresh off an improbable World Series run, what will they do to try and keep the trophy in DC? How will the Astros, Yankees, Dodgers, Braves, etc. build back up for another go at it? Which teams will emerge as favorites, who will sign a player for way too much money, and who obviously isn't trying at all? Discuss here, it's the MLB Offseason.

The GM Meetings start on the 11th. The Red Sox can't sign Mookie ($30 million arbitration is possible), since they want to be under the luxury tax, so look for him to be traded perhaps as early as in the next couple of days.

Pete Alonso won rookie of the year in the national league, and I like that, 53 homers in his first year, what a rookie

This will be interesting to see what they get. The huge salary will reduce what they get in trade but should still net them something fairly substantial. I've seen the Braves linked to Betts but I'd be shocked if we landed him. I could see us trading Swanson+ for Lindor before Betts but where he ends up will be very interesting.

I've seen him linked to a ton of teams, so I don't know what to believe. I saw that he was going to be traded for Kris Bryant straight up. Unless Bryant or Devers is moving to 1st base, that's not going to happen.

I don't know if Mookie will get traded to Atlanta, but he's from Nashville and I'm pretty sure he still lives there. 4 Hours away from your house and/or a 1 hour flight on a team that might be a piece or two away could be a good deal. Atlanta's got money, so who knows?

They only way for the Red Sox to keep him would be to trade a bunch of other players. Nobody would take Sale, Eovaldi or Price...so, that's not gonna happen.

I never saw the Braves making the trade because they would never sign him for what he is worth. Unless he took like a 3 year deal for 40 MM a year.

I could see Devers moving to 1B for Bryant. Bryant would be a great fit for that team.

Devers has defensive issues at 3rd and Bryant made about half as many errors as Devers...I wouldn't be opposed to it.

Betts turned down 8yrs, 200 million from the Red Sox last year. A short 3 yr deal for 120 and he'd be a free agent at 30...that'd be a great deal for him, in my opinion.

It all depends on how he views the new CBA. His skills aren't tied to speed so he should maintain elite Fielding for a while. He also has the ability to play 2B if and when his outfield days are over so I'm sure he would have no shortage of long-term deals. I threw that out there just because the Braves have been in on big free agents for less years and more dollars.

I could see them signing Trevor Bauer when he hits free agency because he claimed he only wanted to sign one year deals.

As a huge Braves fan, there is no way Atlanta would threaten their farm system to give up what they need to get him. Atlanta learned their lesson with Texaria a decade back. In the long run, one player isn't worth giving up your future if you a smaller market team.

I love the hot stove season. I'm definitely interested in seeing what new GM Chaim Bloom will do to lower the Red Sox enormous salaries. I can't complain, DD's voodoo won them a World Series, he just leaves teams in a shambles and pays everyone crazy money.

I'm glad that Rocco Baldelli won the AL Manager of the Year, his first season having 101 wins even though getting swept by the damn Yankees.

I don't think and I'm pretty sure Cox doesn't think they'd trade for him, but they may sign him next year on a short deal like he mentioned. But, if Betts wants Trout money...no chance of that.

I'm a Yankees fan and I'm not surprised Rocco won AL Manager of the Year. Yes, he beat out Boone but that Twins team made a huge turnaround. So props to Baldelli for sure.

As for the Red Sox, it will be interesting to see what happens there. I definitely think there's a team out there with a great farm system that'll do what it takes to land him if it comes to that. Betts is a special player and could be a cornerstone for any team for a long time.

For my Yankees, I hope we add more defensive specialists/utility guys. I'm sure we have our starting lineup ready to go. And of course, everyone knows we need starting pitching. Hopefully the playoffs for the past three years has taught the Yankees a lesson in securing legit starting pitching instead of having decent arms and an elite bullpen.

Tough times don't last, tough people do.

Baldelli deserved manager of the year and I think Cashman should get Executive of the year for bringing in the guys that stood in all year.

Look at you all and your teams with general managers in place. How fun!

Meanwhile our solid GM who helped build the team up and turn it around gets fired as a scapegoat for a greedy owner who doesn't care about the sport of his team, just lining his pockets with money.

FWIW, Neal did make his own grave with the Archer trade. He and Coonely sank themselves also by not keeping the analytics department progressive and at the forefront of the sport. If they had, then they would've cut Hurdle and Searage two years before they actually did.

I still believe the Pirates would've made the 2018 playoffs with an above average manager and pitching coach. They blew about 10 games due to poor managerial decisions and weird pitching tactics. That's 92 wins instead of 82 wins.

This is the best thing that could have happened to Pirates fans. Their front office was abysmal and the team is about 15 years behind everyone else.

It can't always be big news when the Yankees plan to go after a big pitcher. In this instance, it's Madison Bumgarner. Like, of course we're going to try and get a big name pitcher. That's what we've needed for a while now.
