Re: WC's Fave Five EDGE Matches!!

    Got my list in.

Everyone needs to rewatch the ECW One Night Stand 2006 match before putting in your lists because that match is sensational. Probably better than the Foley Wrestlemania match too. Its my favourite plunder match of Edge's and he's a massive part of it.

Managed to put in a list without any tlc or elimination chamber matches. Not even intentionally either, I think there's an argument for all five of mine to be better than those. Only one non gimmick match though.

Going to try and put a list together tonight. I’m going to omit any multi man ladder matches though. Just working out how many Edge vs Kane matches I can squeeze in there.

Re: WC's Fave Five EDGE Matches!!

Watched the Michaels 2005 program tonight which I'm not sure I've ever seen before. I think the Rumble match is pretty great (outside of a looong sleeper hold spot) and tells a solid story and elevates Edge up the card a little. The street fight lacks wow factor when you compare it to some of Edge's other gimmick matches and really outside of Michaels too deep blade job, there's nothing too special about it.

I always figured that was the point of a "Fave Five" list. It's not meant to be about the "best" matches, it's all about what you like.

Re: WC's Fave Five EDGE Matches!!

More than a couple of people have neglected to send in their suggestions for the next Fave Five. Don't forget to throw in a list of three names if you want to with your ballot, and anyone who's already sent one in without doing so is still welcome to toss me a second PM with those.

We're up to 17 matches with a healthy amount of variety, on the Edge note, but still several days left to add to that. Very happy with the participation so far.

Re: WC's Fave Five EDGE Matches!!

The Matt/Edge cage match stands up very well on the rewatch. I love how it plays on cage match tropes towards the end where Matt can just climb down to win but inside goes for the diving move off the top of the cage; in many other matches that would cost the babyface the victory but instead it puts the exclamation mark on it. This might be a weird comparison, but Matt's performance and his reaction from the crowd felt very Kofi Kingston in the chamber like where the crowd are going crazy for his never say die attitude and are dying to see him win, kinda maddening that it doesn't lead to something bigger for him after he picks up the win here.

Even weirder for the Matt/Edge match is that it led to a ladder match where Hardy failed to win Edge's MITB contract and was banished to Smackdown a month later.

I don't mind the logic of moving them to separate brands at the end of the feud because it draws a line over it and it might of been the wise thing to do backstage to keep them apart. Maybe they felt a little short changed in how the Summerslam match went that they wanted to get another match out of this feud (not a bad call) but it does diminish Matt's win at Unforgiven because his win was for nothing and Edge's was for the big stakes so ultimately Edge won the feud that was all about Hardy getting revenge.

Whoa, this is a cracking ladder match. There's some really neat spots in the match like Edge attacking Hardy from behind during his entrance to get a head start on climbing the ladder, and Matt scissoring Edge's body in the ladder which gets a good reaction from the crowd. The hate is still there carrying over from Unforgiven and they work at a brisk pace. The finish is better than any ladder match finish in the last 10 years as Matt gets tied in the ropes and Lita grapevines him so he can't escape and has to watch Edge climb the ladder unopposed. Won't make my top 5 but there's some ideas here that really make this match work better than modern ladder matches that are just spot to spot layouts.

The Street Fight which ends with them both taking the big bump off the stage is also pretty great.

Even the Summerslam match, short as it is, is a real good, proper hate filled match.

It's alright, you always had the Smackdown world title feud that featured... *checks notes*... Paul Heyman accusing the Undertaker of cheating on his pregnant wife.

At least the match was pretty good though? Boy there were some bad storylines back then (the more things change...)
