Hey, that one poster got his wish with Tessa and/or Sami getting at least one win. Good on that one poster who I've completely forgotten who it was.

I voted for Io, but it would of been a shame for Tessa to end up empty handed so I don't mind this.

Only watched the Callihan stuff, which was predictably great. Probably would shine more outside of Impact but credit her for the win in a company most people on this forum said they won't watch fully again .

Awesome. All the candidates for this award were worthy, I'd say, but Tessa is definitely the standout to me.

It’s crazy that just a few years ago she was such a shit wrestler and now she’s one of the best in the world

Glad to see Tessa get the nod. She's had a fantastic year.

I thought Becky would win because she gets all the big moments, then underdelivers everytime.

whys that? The company have put her in bad spots at some points this year but I still think she’s been one of the better women’s wrestlers in the major companies this year. She deserved to be on the ballot for me.

I think Rhea beating her in noms was recency bias of 2 good months where she broke out = one of the best of the year. I don’t recall many people pimping her NXT U.K. matches from the start of the year.

Her year just hasn't been great in terms of my personal enjoyment. It does mostly come down to the mishandling of the Mania main event as well as the Lacey feud to be fair to her. As a whole though, I just never got on the hype train and I'm pretty convinced she's an average wrestler. I do give her credit for garnering the fan support she has, but ultimately, I like the three other women who were in the running for this award a lot more than her.

If Becky's an average wrestler, there's loads of fucking incredible women wrestlers.

How many Becky matches last year were great? One? Two? seems like a very small number for someone who had the most spotlight and was pushed the hardest.

Not that I think Becky sucks, because she doesn't, but I'm definitely in the 'overated' camp

Tessa is hitting her ceiling in Impact now though, she'll need to try again in the WWE by this time next year methinks.

Tessa's future is tricky. AEW isn't worth considering their women's division is atrocious, but then in WWE she's got an uphill battle to get passed or even treated anywhere near equal too Charlotte and Becky. Or even Alexa Bliss and possibly Lacey if WWE stick with her. I think its more likely Tessa winds up in a spot like Sasha Banks in WWE and wastes away as opposed to WWE using her right.

Re: 2019 WC Wrestling Awards - Women's Wrestler of the Year

I'm not buying that Tessa has hit her ceiling in Impact. I mean, she could become World Champion in a few days and that's a whole new level above what she's been doing. There's plenty left for her to do imo. The only place I could see her going and having the same acclaim and status would be NXT. While I do hope to see her one day match up with the likes of Charlotte, Kairi, Asuka and maybe even Bayley and Sasha, I just don't think present day WWE is going to be any good for her. It will undoubtedly be a step down for her in terms of what she's able to do and how much freedom she has with her character. We've got plenty of evidence that WWE no longer cares to push any one person to their full potential. Even if you're Kofi or Becky and you organically get insanely over and have all this momentum, within a few months you end up reduced to a catch phrase and you're no different than about dozen other people on the roster. You just become a part of "the brand". I don't want that for Tessa, even if it means more eyes on her work. Maybe down the line, if there are changes in how WWE books individuals, but at the moment I think she has a lot more room to grow and flourish in Impact than she does anywhere else.

I'd really prefer it if the big focus for Tessa's 2020 isn't intergender matches in Impact, but that's kinda the corner they've booked themselves in with her.

I mean fair enough if that's not what you're in to. But at the same time, there are really only a couple of real quality Knockouts in the company, so I'd happily take her wrestling people like Sami Callihan, Brian Cage, Rich Swann, Daga, Ace Austin, etc. over the likes of Madison Rayne and Rosemary. Maybe in 2020 they can find her some more viable female competition, but until then, there's not much reason for her to go back to wrestling predominantly women.
