    CHRISTMAS

    It's December, it's acceptable now!

I've gotten more and more excited about this time of year the older I get. Now you don't see your family and friends everyday, it makes you appreciate festive periods like this all the more.

I am scaling back certain things this year though. Sending bare minimum cards and only using last years leftovers, I'm avoiding Secret Santa at work like the plague, and my family haven't done presents for years.

Kicked off the films strong this year too with It's A Wonderful Life.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

I've never been particularly big on Christmas but I will always appreciate two things: family and food. After having a very frugal Christmas last year while we saved up for the house, me and Mrs Shock are spoiling ourselves this year. It's our first year with the dog in the new house, and we cannot wait.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

Time to avoid Wham for as long as possible too, love playing a bit of #Whamageddon haha.

Christmas is all about the kids for me, so doing the Christmas stuff they enjoy like Christmas Movies, making Gingerbread houses etc then doing the usual carol service with St John (All three of mine are members ooh err) and the youngest has her Christmas concerts (They're doing 4) this week.

I'm not doing the work Secret Santa this year either, not got time for all that, especially with the politics that goes along with it haha.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

Love Christmas, I wouldn't say I get more excited about it the older I get because it doesn't come with the fortnight off school anymore but I appreciate it differently as a time to see family members I don't see normally.

Gonna be a weird Christmas this year because it's my first one in my new home so I'll be waking up somewhere different for the first time in 30 years. I'm already having the debate about do I put lights outside the house and what should I do for indoor decorations.

New year in a new house as well. Closed on it in October. Put up a green with my daughter and in April another little one on the way. It's more fun watching the little one get excited.

HAHA that's when you realize you've reached adulthood. When you have to drive somewhere else to celebrate Christmas.

I'd like a Christmas where I could only invite a few members of my family. On one side my step dad, Grandma and oldest cousin get too drunk and sloppy. On the other side, I get yelled at because I'm not religious.

If we could just mute them, that'd be perfect.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

Im not big on Christmas (or most holiday/big gathering events). Not sure what I'm doing this year. My family is pretty dramatic so I might avoid all of that and just hang out at home and watch a few movies and chill.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

Busy week, one more event tonight and that's essentially all the Xmas socialising done already, crazy how it all fell into one week this year. Highlight as always was my niece's Xmas play, nothing quite like the chaos that comes with adults trying to organise 5 year olds into something productive haha.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

I am really feeling Christmas this year. I've just impulse bought a silly amount of money on my little siblings and my dog.

Won't get to see everyone before Christmas unfortunately though. Everyone is spread across the world at this point so have only been able to see the Edinburgh and Newcastle family, and York friends.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

I decorated the house yesterday so things are definitely looking more festive at my place. Christmas shopping virtually done so that's another thing ticked off the list.

Had an incredibly busy week at work this past week and a lot of our leukaemia patients are battling infections and one sadly passed away. Working where I do, illness and death are common themes and usually I cope well enough with it, but this time of year it does stay on my mind more and I get bummed out about what some families are going through when everyone else is high on Christmas spirit. A timely reminder to not abuse the NHS by going to A+E when it's not necessary because it puts a great strain on the hospital staff, lack of bed space etc. I believe no hospital in England met the 4 hour target on one day this week it was that bad.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

I bloody love Christmas. I went off it for a while in my late teens and twenties, but now it's all about kids and getting people together and shit I love it. We've had our decorations up for a while but we're pretty low key with it now as the cats only ruin it anyway. We found that out the hard way a couple of years ago with a really expensive tree. Couldn't keep the cats out of it.

We're having a more responsible christmas this year. Part of it is me not working, but part of it is realising we've got carried away in previous years. So this year (kid aside) we're doing only stuff from independent companies or charity shops, trying to keep presents affordable and without buying loads, and we've reigned in stuff like crackers. Just realised we'll have easily as much fun with or without them, so why be wasteful?

Could do without the Christmas music though. I'm a massive Scrooge for it. I get that people feel festive with it, but it's usually the worst song in someone's back catalogue that you listen to hundreds and hundreds of times in a short period, where you wouldn't usually listen to their best stuff as much throughout the rest of the year combined. But aside from that, it's my favourite time of the year.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

For the first time ever i feel like i've told all my Xmas gift shopping (woo!) I've become so used to scrambling to find something on the 23rd of Dec.

It's my little one's third Christmas and she's really beginning to understand what it's all about which is great. Good a few days off so will try take her down to the local Santa's grotto and all that jazz. Must admit having little Children really does make you feel the Christmas spirit that little bit more.

    Re: CHRISTMAS

I really don't like Christmas, working in retail has absolutely killed it for me and I haven't spent it with my family for years because of the awful retail schedule around Christmas, that said this will be my last as a childless man as I have a little one due early 2020 so maybe next year I'll absolutely fuckin love it and even wear a red hat.
