WWE NXT WWE NXT Discussion - November 13, 2019

    WWE NXT Preview
    November 13, 2019

Lio Rush defends his NXT Cruiserweight Title against Angel Garza

Lio Rush will defend his NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Angel Garza tonight during WWE NXT on USA Network.

Garza defeated Tony Nese in a thrilling match to earn an opportunity at the NXT Cruiserweight Championship on WWE NXT. The confident Superstar then let Rush know that he wasn’t sweating their upcoming battle at all, slapping the champion when Rush offered a handshake after the bell.

Will Rush prove that he’s The Man of The Hour once again, or will Garza knock him off his perch and become NXT Cruiserweight Champion?

Mia Yim and Io Shirai collide in Ladder Match to determine War Games advantage

The advantage in the first-ever Women’s WarGames Match will be hanging in the balance tonight, when Mia Yim and Io Shirai clash in a Ladder Match on WWE NXT.

Yim, representing Rhea Ripley’s team, and Shirai, representing Shayna Baszler’s, will both be looking to ensure their respective squad will have the advantage of sending a team member into the battle first inside the double cages of WarGames at NXT TakeOver on Nov. 23.

Who will climb the ladder to victory and give their team the upper hand in WarGames?

Will Killian Dain still be on a warpath?

Last Wednesday, Pete Dunne got a measure of payback on Damian Priest with his submission victory, but quickly discovered that Killian Dain was out to end their “unfinished business.” The Archer of Infamy also found himself in Dain’s line of fire, as The Beast of Belfast crushed him against the ring stairs, putting Priest on the NXT injury report.

Is Dain satisfied, or will he be out to cause more carnage?

    Will the takeovers continue?

As the battle for brand supremacy at Survivor Series draws closer, the bad blood between NXT, Raw and SmackDown is getting worse by the day. The latest salvos were fired when Shayna Baszler arrived to cost Becky Lynch & Charlotte Flair the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, and WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER and Imperium answered the challenge of Seth Rollins.

Will anyone from Team Red or Team Blue step into the NXT Arena to send a pre-Survivor Series message? Find out live tonight at 8/7 C on USA Network!

Angel Garza vs Lio Rush was awesome. Really digging the sprints NXT puts out. All of them have been awesome, and this was no exception.

No posts in this yet? Big shame as Rush vs Garza was fucking awesome. Seriously, go watch it. 99% of modern juniors epics feel lame to be, but they structured this well enough, sold all the big moments like they mattered and went BIG without going overboard and still left stuff on the table for a future rematch. Garza so far as felt like a guy with a lot of potential, this was him putting it all together. If WWE gave a real shit he could have a very promising future. Rush was also great and is the only guy in the world who can executive a standing spanish fly and have it look believable

The whole deal of the Finn promo > Riddle setting up that match > TUE coming out > Ciampa and Lee making the same > Lee vs Strong > Dijak making the save and becoming Riddle's replacement, was sports-entertainment done fucking right. Everything ruled, had purpose, and felt like it flowed organically. Lee feels like a star right now.

Ladder match was good. Io is so awesome right now and this was the best I've seen Yim look. Face explosion was super nasty and the final bump was fucking mad. I have no opinion on KLR but she seems like a decent #4 for the WarGames.

I'm behind at the moment- but you've got me so hyped to watch this show!

Been loving NXT lately with the WAR GAMES angles and feuds as well as the return of Finn. Some of the matches on the episodes have been outstanding too so pleased to hear it sounds like they delivered with another banger in the form of Lio Rush and Garza :D

Just got finished with this and thought it was superb. Really enjoying NXT of late and I feel like the extension to two hours hasn't hurt them so that's a positive.

Ladder match was crazy and Io is so damn good. NXT Women's division is the best in wrestling.

Agreed on the whole layout with the Finn promo onwards, King Stevo. It was WWE done right, logical, got to a clear point at the end and made sense throughout. Keith Lee to challenge Adam Cole next maybe?

Angel Garza has potential to be a huge star. I was already aware that he was good after watching some of his brief stint in TNA as a tag team with Laredo Kid. He's showing in WWE though that he's so much more than just a luchador spot monkey (which a lot of these cruiserweights are labelled as). I've seen and heard some comparisons between him and Eddie Guerrero, which is a bold comparison because there's only ever been and only ever will be one Eddie Guerrero, but I can see the similarities.
This match vs Rush though, wow. What a treat. If this was what they could do with a TV match then imagine what they could do if asked to do a TakeOver match. Incredible from both guys. I'm also so happy that Lio Rush has sorted himself out and refocused because I'm a big fan of his and he has a very bright future ahead of him. Also, these two are only 27 and 25 respectively. Incredible.

The UE, Keith Lee, Dijak, Ciampa stuff is very entertaining. Agreed with everyone that Keith Lee is looking like a huge Star tight now, at last, after he spent what felt likenanlong time doing nothing. They made Dijak look like a boss too when he cleared the ring.
I wonder who will replace Riddle in this match now that he's facing Balor? It surely would have been Gargano. Now, I'm not sure who springs to mind. I wonder if they will bring a main roster star down? Cesaro perhaps?

The Riddle Vs Balor match should be excellent. Riddle looks like he's stepping up the intense levels and Balor looks a lot more intense too. I'm so glad they turned him heel and have him playing the Prince Devitt character. So much more entertaining than his face character. This match will be very hard hitting I think.

I'm yet to check out Io Vs Yim, but I've heard great things. I'm a huge fan of Yim too, she's my bae.

Another great episode overall, NXT is s gripping me so much more than AEW right now (I have tried watching AEW and it's just not grabbing me enough to watch it regularly).

Alright so right off the bat we get the NXT Cruiserweight Championship match. Loved this battle. Angel Garza’s charisma really shined through in this match. He’s someone who I thought was pretty raw and nondescript when he first showed up, but the last couple of weeks he has proven to be a really strong total package who should have a very bright future. Lio Rush still doesn’t really do much for me from a character standpoint, but I give him all the credit for being an exciting in ring worker. Clearly with that finish, this feud isn’t over just yet and since a lot of the big stars on the brand will be tied in the two War Games matches, hopefully Rush and Garza’s rematch takes place at TakeOver.

I’m a Xia Li fan. I love her look and her moveset. Aliyah… ehhhh. There’s some potential there and honestly, I could see them doing something with this “Gen Z icon” thing they touched on. But it’s gonna need some refinement. The match itself here was really just whatever. They both looked incredibly green. I saw Aliyah got busted up from that finishing kick but it still looks to me like Li got her in the shoulder and then her shoulder hit her face. Regardless, I’m pretty sure Aliyah and Vanessa Borne’s comments on Twitter about Li being unsafe were a work. You know, because they’re boujee Gen Z-ers so they have to be extra soft and have a poor work ethic, yada yada yada. I’ve always felt like when you get a legit injury in wrestling, you might as well take it and run with it, so kudos to them if that is indeed what they’re doing.

The whole War Games-focused portion of this show was great. Balor and Riddle’s stuff was great. The war between Keith Lee and Roderick Strong was muy bueno. Strong is one of my top picks for Wrestler of the Year in 2019. Dude has always been a sensational worker but these last two years as part of TUE, he has been absolutely killing it. Now, I’m not real sure about Dijakovic becoming the final member of the face team at War Games. He’s been heel for the longest time, and though you could say this wasn’t a face turn and instead he just wants a chance to be in on the action, I just think he’s a weird fit alongside those other guys, minus Lee who has a deep history with. At the same time, there aren’t a lot of options out there but if it were up to me, I would have gone with Isaiah Scott instead. But I’m quickly becoming a bit of an Isaiah Scott stan so I’m biased in that regard. With Matt Riddle out of the match too now, maybe Scott can fill his spot.

And speaking of Scott, I was happy to see him pick up the win over Bronson Reed. Both of these guys have the makings to be big time players down in NXT. They have that exciting brand of offense that the Full Sail crowd eats up. I think this match showed that the brand is in good hands going forward. Scott needs a new theme though because that late early 90s pseudo-hip hop electro “Pump Up The Jam” style song seems pretty damn unfitting for him lol. I mean if they’re going to rip off Travis Scott for his name and nickname, at least give him a more brooding, trap sounding entrance theme.

I really thought the scene with all the War Games women laid out was pretty hilarious honestly. People just running around screaming for medics, like that shit was super unrealistic and exaggerated. In that situation I feel you only need like one or two people yelling for medics, not a whole flock of people scrambling around like someone just opened fire out there. I mean, it’s a harmless segment in the grand scheme of things, I just thought it was really hilariously carried out.

As for the main event ladder match, I was definitely into it. I thought it was great to see the fans behind Mia so aggressively, although I don’t care for her myself. The match had a good amount of drama and was laid out really well. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it’s one of the best ladder matches I’ve seen in years but it probably is the best women’s ladder match I’ve ever seen. There certainly aren’t any others springing to mind at the moment. I thought Mia’s bump off the ladder through the ladder on the outside looked absolutely devastating. I don’t feel any particular way about Kay Lee Ray joining War Games since I don’t follow NXT UK much and Bayley’s appearance at the end of the show was a dud for me since I think she’s been poor as champion.

Anyways, hell of a show this week. NXT seems to be getting better and better lately, which I’m happy to say after my interest in the show kinda fell off earlier this year. It’ll be real intriguing to see what comes after War Games and Survivor Series. Seems like there’s a healthy chance Keith Lee could be next in line to challenge Cole, which I’d be very much down for. The women’s division is a different situation. Is Rhea going to be a permanent fixture on NXT going forward? If so, I’m definitely pulling for her to finally dethrone Shayna.
