Fright Fest 11 - Franken Berry Turns Your Poop Pink

As summer comes to a close and fall is upon us, it's time again for one of Wrestling Clique's longest standing yearly traditions to take place again. In Fright Fest, I set out to review one horror movie a day, every day, in the month of October to celebrate the wonderful month that gave us Halloween (Yay!) and the birth of Jim (Boo!) In actuality, in the past, things have sometimes been a bit more convoluted than that with reviews on horror TV shows, the occasional double review day, and the big Halloween day finale with multiple reviews. Who knows what will happen this year beyond the bare minimal expectations.

Like last year, I'd like to cover a lot of different countries around the globe rather than relying too heavily on America or even the main countries of America/Canada/UK. There's also the hope that Fright Fest will provide reviews for a wide variety of movies of different decades and sub-genres. As always, I'm open to receiving any requests and/or suggestions for films that I should cover this time around. Before requesting a movie(s), take a quick moment to scroll through the list of past Fright Fest reviews to ensure that I haven't always covered the film. Likewise, it's better to get in requests earlier in the project rather than waiting until the end of it since otherwise, the remaining days in October may already be planned out by time a late request comes in. Thinking back over past years, I try to cover at least one request per poster. If you request a long list of movies, the vast majority of them likely won't be covered, but it does give me a lot of different choices, which means a review of one of your requests will likely come earlier in the month. If someone else has already requested a movie review you had wanted to request, feel free to request it again as if I see a movie request popping up multiple times, it increases the chances of me reviewing it greatly.

Say Jim, what if a poster isn't much of a horror fan? Does that mean that this thread offers nothing to them? Don't be stupid, Jim! In the past, some posters have spoken up about how they scroll through the reviews to at least see what clips I make into gifs. Besides, nearly everyone tries to watch at least one spooky movie near Halloween, perhaps Fright Fest will give a non-horror fan an idea of what movie they should watch. Now don't you feel silly, Jim? Stop talking to yourself, Jim, it's quite the unhealthy habit. Wrap it up!

Fright Fest 11 will officially kick off on Tuesday, October 1st. In the meantime, feel free to request movies or to click on the spoiler tag and look at past Fright Fest years or individual reviews below:

If you check the Ask Jim thread, I gave a few thoughts on IT Chapter 2 in a request question asked by Fuji. Chances are, it will end up like IT Chapter 1 where it came out to theaters in September, I saw it then, which is close to October, but a little too far away in order to remember enough to write up a proper review. Since I don't go watch movies multiple times at a theater, that just leaves re-watching Chapter 2 with some poor looking cam to review it here. It's certainly an option and I'm not ruling it out, but just as IT Chapter 1 was covered in Fright Fest TEN instead of in 2017, it may just make more sense to pencil Chapter 2 in for Fright Fest 12.

This is the first movie request that I can admit that I won't be covering this year. I started watching it last year for Fright Fest TEN to fulfill your request, but it wasn't connecting with me. I ended up stopping it and going on to another movie before finishing it in early November 2018. Ultimately, I ended up giving it a 3.5/10 which is a D rating in Fright Fest. After Hours Horror tends to be pretty hit and miss with Ian Stone being one of the weakest that I've seen.

A month or so ago, Fuji made reference to wanting me to cover the 80s remake of The Blob, which I've never seen. The idea of potentially covering both versions, whether back to back or the original at the start of the month and the remake at the end of the month is pretty tempting to me.

Psycho's an intimidating movie to cover just because it's so great.

I saw Attack of the Killer Tomatoes a few years ago and wasn't overly impressed, but it did make me want to see the different take on the killer tomatoes with Return. Since I haven't watched it yet, Return could be pretty likely.

I hated Dead Silence when it came out and when I re-watched it for the first time a few years ago, I still hated it. Pretty unlikely.

I re-watched the original My Bloody Valentine earlier in the year and despite it being a quite good movie, I don't know how likely it is that I'd be interested in seeing it again so soon. Never been a fan of the remake.

I've already reviewed Hush. Click on the spoiler in the opening post to find a link to that review.

The other three are possibilities with The VVitch being the most likely since I bought the Blu-Ray to eventually watch it for a third time, but haven't re-watched yet. Both The VVitch and Krampus are movies I originally saw at the theater.

Oh... I have one more Non-Horror movie as a request, because it's a movie I watch every year around the time of Halloween, even though it has nothing to do with it. Murder by Death from 1976.

The girl in The Witch is a pretty good the one from split. I know last year you asked if Rocky Horror Picture Show is a horror movie I mean I think so may not be trdational but its a horror musical and its got Tim Curry who I adore lol.

Though there is also The Horror Musical Repo The Gentic Operah w/ Anthony Stewart Head, Alexa Vega, and Bill M (Devils Rejects) that one is def horror but it is worth a watch mostly due to Head but its from the saw creators. I prob seen that movie 5 or 6 times.

Krampus better movie then I thought cuz im not big fan of Adam Scott or Toni Collete.

    The Visit
    Knuckleball
    Split
    13 Sins
    Jigsaw

A couple of those suggestions might not necessarily fit the bill for Fright Fest, but I’ll let you be the judge, Jim.

If it's not a horror movie, I don't see myself considering reviewing it for Fright Fest. If I do end up watching it, I'll at least let you know directly what I thought of it.

I've liked Anya Taylor-Joy in everything I've seen her in.

I think Rocky is simply a movie that I'd just have to watch and see whether or not it's horror enough to be included in Fright Fest.

I didn't realize that people weren't a fan of Scott or Collete. Between Scott being likable and Collete absolutely killing it in some movies including Fright Fest TEN's Hereditary, both are great.

Ugh. Sadly, Jigsaw would make a lot of sense to cover this year since I already covered the rest of the series in the past with Fright Fest and I still haven't seen Jigsaw.

Was wondering when this was coming!

I'll ponder my standard family friendly requests and get back to you. One I will mention though is the possibility of the Zombieland sequel as it's out next month

The one I'm currently thinking about is the Are You Afraid of the Dark TV movie. Looks like that's being released in early October. My guess is that I likely won't like it, but there is that connection of being an old viewer of the TV series when I was a kid. I don't know, October 30th is a long ways away. I've got time to hear other suggestions or figure out possibly some forgotten family friendly horror from my childhood.

I saw the trailer before IT Chapter 2 and truthfully, I kinda hated it. It broke my heart since I do love the original, but this sequel doesn't look fun to me. Since it's just coming out to theaters in October 2019 and I'd rather just wait until it pops up on VOD, I don't think that this is a possible movie for Fright Fest 11. It's frustrating actually as unless Cinemark announces some old horror movies that's coming back to the big screen in October (I guess there's the original Ghostbusters, but I saw that the last time it came out to theaters a few years go), I don't think that there's any opportunities to include a theater experience for Fright Fest 11.

Too be honest not much is coming to me early. My current to watch list for October has mostly films I've not seen so can't really recommend any of them yet.

Shame about Zombieland 2, I think it looks fun personally but each to their own.

    WOO FRIGHT FEST

Finally got some films to toss into the list, Jim. I made an actual effort to watch some horror films this year just for Fright Fest. Most of which had already been reviewed, but there's a few recent-ish releases that were good enough for this.

    Ready or Not
    The Hole in the Ground
    Ghost Stories

I think you might be a little pleasantly surprised by Jigsaw, Jim. It's still Saw but it's somewhat a decent return to form after the disaster that was 7. Seconding request for review.

Please don’t review the new Child’s Play. Sorry Shade, but it’s just mediocre as all hell.

I previously suggested the 80’s Blob remake as you said you hadn’t seen it before. I’ll come up with some more for you shortly.

You may have already expressed your thoughts on these movies:

    Any of Rob Zombie's originals
    Any of Eli Roth's originals
