    Andrew Luck To Retire

Andrew Luck informed the colts he plans to retire.

I feel for the guy who obviously to no fault to his own is retiring the surgery screw up and the affect it had on him is something that needs to be looked into. I wish nothing but the best for him.

Re: 2019 NFL Offseason Discussion Thread

Yeah this one hurt hearing this news. Luck is one of those players I really liked and I thought last Season was the turning point of what we thought he would be if not for his injuries during his Career. The injuries sure did pile up and those are really mental battles, and this current one was the Straw that broke the Camel's Back for him.

Actually it's just because I merged them and mine was first. I don't make the rules of thread merging.

Andrew Luck got boo'd by fans on the way out of Lucas Oil Stadium.

Petty surreal. I mean we've had guys retire unexpectedly and in their primes, but right before the season starts? A face of the franchise like Andrew Luck?

I had Colts vs Bears as my Super Bowl pick. This team really had a chance to contend for that. But Luck is just done.

Wonder if he'll come back in a bit after he's had a break and a mental refresher.

At his age, I'd be surprised if he doesn't attempt a comeback after 2-3 years outside the league, allowing himself to rehab and get his mind right. Hopefully. If not, it was a great run tragically cut short.

Colin Cowherd tweeted that this is the most shocking headline in the history of sports. Might be a bit of a kneejerk reaction but...I dont know...is he wrong?

    Also, fuck Colts fans.

They're making Philly fans seem respectable right now.

    Re: Andrew Luck To Retire

That is terrible news, but Andrew Luck seems like the type of guy to put his health about everything else, and that's not a bad thing.

I thought I read somewhere that he had an injury that wouldn't improve.

Either super famous OJ killing folks after his football career ended or Aaron Hernandez killing folks while he was still playing and in his prime.

While crazy young retirements are rare and the timing of this one makes it a little more wild, doesn't have anything on those two at the very least, just for this sport.

There are so many more shocking moments in history than this, what the hell is Colin Cowherd talking about.

Even with this same scenerio, I'd say Barry Sanders was as big if not bigger.

How about Michael Jordan retiring at 30 years old after owning the NBA for 3 consecutive seasons?

    Re: Andrew Luck To Retire

Luck's a smart guy, he went to Stanford, I'm sure he'll find a job in the business whether it's TV/Radio, coaching or whatever he wants where he doesn't have to think about getting hurt. He's made some money, but I don't think he'll ever come back to play. He's tired of the injury, rehab, hope to play cycle. Never say never, but who knows...he sounds like he's completely done and I'm sure he's been thinking about this for a long time. It's a shame that he was booed by his fans. He's spent his entire career trying to get healthy enough to play for you and it's not enough...sad.

As a Pats fan think about Gronk, I guarantee every week he played the last several years he took days to recover from all the pain, and probably was never fully feeling good.

Luck said for four years he hasn't been right. Sometimes people's bodies just can't recover fully.

    Re: Andrew Luck To Retire

Jordan retiring was much bigger news. Magic Johnson announcing his disease was a bigger headline. The 1994 MLB season ending due to the strike was a bigger headline. The ones Silk mentioned were bigger headlines.

This is big but it's not all-time big.

    Re: Andrew Luck To Retire

In the late 2000's/early 2010's, my favorite NFL team was my hometown Bengals, but the Colts became my second favorite. Until that is Peyton Manning got injured, missed an entire season, causing the Colts to have a terrible record that season, and yet the seemed to blame Manning--a QB who had lead them to a Super Bowl title--for their lousy season, a season which he did not play a game in. If they had had a quality backup QB, maybe they wouldn't have had a bad season. So they got rid of Manning and drafted Luck. Manning went on to win another Super Bowl title with the Broncos and Luck and the Colts never did. I was no longer a Colts fan after that. I feel sorry for Luck and everything that happened to him, but I have no sympathy for the Colts or their fans. I wonder if the learned their lesson and have a quality backup now.
