Re: WC's Be All...End All...No Holds Barred... Favorite Guitarist List

I can see the finish line as we crack the top 10 with 11 to 9:

    11th (176 Points):

    Spoiler:

Keith Richards - Rolling Stones (Baloocha, OMB, Mister Miracle)

    Spoiler:

The original riff master...Keef came up with just about every recognizable opening to a Rolling Stones song. His songwriting with Mick was his greatest strength. He was never a soloist like Brian or my favorite Stone, Mick Taylor...Keith was more important to the formula for the Stones.

    10th (180 Points)

    Spoiler:

BB King - Solo (Baloocha #1, OMB, Ms Flock, Mikk)

    Spoiler:

BB King is an all time great. Not my cup of tea, but I get it. He's very distinctive with his tone and sound.

    9th (183 Points):

    Spoiler:

Carlos Santana - Santana/Solo (HoHo's #1, Baloocha, OMB, Mister Miracle)

    Spoiler:

I go back and forth with Carlos. I'll be really into him for a couple of months and then get burnt out and not want to hear anything by him for a year. He's great and can solo like a madman.

Re: WC's Be All...End All...No Holds Barred... Favorite Guitarist List

We get closer to the end with 8 to 6:

    8th (185 Points):

    Spoiler:

Angus Young - AC/DC (Baloocha, OMB, Ms Flock, Mikk, Grim, Mister Miracle)
    angus2

    Spoiler:

The man that played homage to his hero Chuck Berry nightly, but with more volume and a schoolboy's uniform. The last original member is still going and may never stop.

    7th (188 Points):

    Spoiler:

Brian May - Queen/Solo (Baloocha, OMB, Mister Miracle)
    brianmay-classic

    Spoiler:

Most likely the smartest man on this list, Brian May is a legit PhD and not just in rock. His Red Special has one of the sweetest sounds ever produced by an electric guitar. So many great songs and solos.

    6th (196 points):

    Spoiler:

Frank Zappa - Mothers of Invention/Solo (Baloocha, OMB, Mister Miracle)
    fz

    Spoiler:

Frank Zappa is hard to describe, because he's everything and nothing...depends on what album you're listening to. He's rock, jazz, prog, industrial, classical, comedy and everything else. He's helped launch the careers of Terry Bozzio, Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, Chad Wackerman, Vinnie Colaiuta, Scott Thunes and Mike Kenally. He's not for everyone, but if you get it...you'll love it.

Re: WC's Be All...End All...No Holds Barred... Favorite Guitarist List

    The top 5 begins with 5 & 4:

    5th (199 Points):

    Spoiler:

Slash - Guns 'N Roses/Velvet Revolver/Slash's Snakepit/Solo (Mikk, Ms Flock, OMB, Baloocha, HoHo, Mister Miracle)
    slash

    Spoiler:

I'm so happy he got sober, he's a much better player now, but even messed up he was really good. He just would've eventually gone the way of every other great drunk/drugged guitar great. He's an icon now.

    4th (200 Points):

    Spoiler:

Eric Clapton - Bluesbreakers/Yardbirds/Derek & the Dominos/Cream/Blind Faith/Solo (Mikk, Baloocha, Ms Flock, OMB)
    clapton

    Spoiler:

Eric Clapton was once great, but there's a clear end to that called the 1980's. When he's in a group, he's amazing, motivated and God, as was written all over England in the 60's. My fandom ended in the 80's and I couldn't vote for him.

Re: WC's Be All...End All...No Holds Barred... Favorite Guitarist List

    Today's a tie for #3:

    Tied for 3rd (202 Points):

    Spoiler:

Pete Townshend - The Who/Solo (OMB, Ms Flock, Grim, Baloocha, Mikk, Mister Miracle)

    pt
    Spoiler:

In my opinion, Pete's the greatest rhythm guitarist ever. When you have a rhythm section soloing and playing the lead parts, Pete kept the song together. His playing was often overlooked, because of the bombast that was The Who, but he's right there with all the greats.

    Spoiler:

Eddie Van Halen - Van Halen (Baloocha, Mikk, OMB, Mister Miracle)
    evh

    Spoiler:

Most greats are a little loopy, Eddie's "out there," but in a good way? Whatever it is, it helped his creativity, because he was a game changer in the world of rock guitar. So, many riffs, his sound, the solos and the tapping. He may not be in touch with reality that often, but it's all for our benefit.

Re: WC's Be All...End All...No Holds Barred... Favorite Guitarist List

We finally end our trudge with the top 2:

    2nd (214 Points):

    Spoiler:

    Jimmy Page - Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin/The Firm/Page & Coverdale/Solo (OMB, Baloocha, Mikk, Mister Miracle)

    Spoiler:

One of the all time great riff masters in hard rock. Page has a sound where you instantly know it's him. A little sloppy, but an extremely great guitarist.

    1st (314 Points):

    Spoiler:

Jimi Hendrix - The Experience/Band of Gypsys (Grim #1, Baloocha, OMB, Ms Flock, Mikk, HoHo, Mister Miracle)

    Spoiler:

The only guitarist to get a vote from everyone, I suppose that's fitting. He almost made Clapton retire, he changed the way everyone looked at an electric guitar. The prime of his career only lasted about 3 years, but what a prime that was.

Thanks everyone that sent even the smallest list.
