Re: WC's Fave Five Albums 2018

Alright, let's get this bad boy going with the 10 Pointers:

Snail Mail - Lush (Fuji Vice #5)

    Spoiler:

Kanye West - ye (Jon Snow #5)

    Spoiler:

Richie Sambora & Orianthi - Radio Free America (Ms Flock #5)

    Spoiler:

Panic! At the Disco - Pray for the Wicked (Jimmy King #5)

    Spoiler:

Death Grips - Year of the Snitch (Sakura #5)

    Spoiler:

Coheed and Cambria - The Unheavenly Creatures (Silk #5)

    Spoiler:

Spanish Love Songs - Schmaltz (King Steventon #5)

    Spoiler:

Flatbush Zombies - Vacation in Hell (The EC #5)

    Spoiler:

Rick Astley - Beautiful Life (Baloocha #5)

    Spoiler:

All in all I have to say my eyes have been opened. Granted, I'm always gonna be the old music snob (so I've been told) that I am...I suppose, but I liked Snail Mail, Coheed and Cambria, Spanish Love Songs and Rick Astley. I didn't hate anything I heard by any of these performers...even Kanye. Will I invest in any of these, that remains to be seen, but some very good stuff. I'm just old and boring. Nice start.

    Lot of time for that

Interested to see what you think of the rest of the picks!

Love Kanye but that album was pretty ass apart from 'Yikes'. Is the Rick Ashley vote a gag?

Too busy in my deep dives from 35-40 years ago...still discovering bands that have come and gone a long time ago.

Good looks to Fuji and Jon for their votes of Snail Mail and Kanye.

Funny Steve because Yikes is probably my second least favorite song from ye. I really enjoyed the album though it feels like a step down from the quality I anticipate from Kanye. Still got lots of hours of listening out of it. Especially Ghost Town and Violent Crimes.

    I liked Snail Mail.

I also liked the one I voted for. But Death Grips definitely isn't for everyone lol

Either didn't like / didn't listen to the rest. :o
    Everything will surely be alright.

Ye is Kanye's worst effort but still pretty solid stuff, liked KSG a lot more so hopefully that shows up somewhere. I haven't enjoyed anything Panic! related since it became Brendon's Big Showtunes Band.

New Coheed is their best album in a decade give or take and I'm very excited for the rest of the albums in this upcoming saga.

Same, on Panic!, tbh. Definitely marked out for "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" back in the day, but eh...

I'll have to listen to the new Coheed, then. I haven't listened to anything they have done in a good 10 years. Which sounds like I didn't miss much, from what you say.
    Everything will surely be alright.

Re: WC's Fave Five Albums 2018

I love that Panic! album, I enjoyed their previous album before that one as well. I liked them when “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out” first came out but then didn’t listen to them for awhile until a few years ago when I started my now ex girlfriend. Panic! is her favorite band and she got me back into them.

Pray for the Wicked is a really fun album though, imo.

I wouldn't say you haven't missed much, they're a very good, consistent band and I particularly enjoyed The Afterman duology a few years back. This is just, in particular, the best record since Good Apollo back in 05, if you're asking me.

Either way, well worth checking out if you enjoyed any of their stuff at some point.

Would agree this is best Coheed album in a long time. does a great job bridging their earlier prog-y/weird song-writing with their more recent pop-y/accessible sound

Re: WC's Fave Five Albums 2018

And we'll keep it going with the 20 Pointers:

Shannon & The Clams - Onion (Fuji Vice #4)

    Spoiler:

Haru to Shura - Haru Nemuri (Jon Snow #4)

    Spoiler:

Immortal - Ann Wilson (Ms Flock #4)

    Spoiler:

    Violence - Editors (Sakura #4)

    Spoiler:

Fetti - Curren$y, Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist (The EC #4)

    Spoiler:

Attention Attention - Shinedown (Baloocha #4)

    Spoiler:

Another varied batch of music. Shannon & the Clams were alright, I liked the music for Haru to Shura...no idea what she's saying. I'm very hot and cold with cover records, it all depends who's doing them. Wasn't a fan of what I heard from Ms. Wilson. Shinedown wasn't bad...Editors falls in the same boat...

Ye is mad underrated but its w/e.

Haru Nemuri is pretty great. I also cant understand what she's saying, but sometimes some things just sound great.

Re: WC's Fave Five Albums 2018

Those albums outside the top 5...what already? The 30 Pointers:

Time & Space - Turnstile (Fuji Vice #3)

    Spoiler:

Blood Red Roses - Rod Stewart (Ms Flock #3)

    Spoiler:

Bloom - Troye Sivan (Sakura #3)

    Spoiler:

Holy Hell - Architects (Silk #3)

    Spoiler:

    Ta13oo - Denzel Curry (The EC #3)

    Spoiler:

From the Gallery of Sleep - Night Verses (King Steventon #3)

    Spoiler:

Thank You for Today - Death Cab For Cutie (Baloocha #3)

    Spoiler:

Another unique grouping, which is great. I liked Turnstile and Night Verses enough to look into them. Architects and Denzel Curry weren't bad, but still on the fence. I loved Sir Rod Stewart up until the late 80's, but he hasn't produced anything great since then. I love him in the Jeff Beck Group, The Faces and when he did Disco Rod, just not now. Troye Sivan can get in a Death Cab For Cutie and both can die a slow death...sorry.

That Night Verses album was pretty sick, though I probably liked Into The Vanishing Light just a bit more. BUT, considering I'm usually not huge into just instrumental music, they did a pretty amazing job of adapting to life after vocals. Haven't listened to much Death Cab in the last ten years but I do really like their earlier stuff so I need to get around to giving it a shake.

That Architects record is maybe a modest step back from their last album but only just barely, and considering they lost a primary songwriter that's pretty great. Some really heavy and potent stuff on Holy Hell.

How big are Architects in the states out of interest? Love them, love Holy Hell but them as a band also have a lot of sentimental value from me. Saw them earlier this year and the whole arena bellowing the chorus for 'Death Is Not Defeat' was spine tingling.

Not exactly getting played on the radio or filling up shelves at Hot Topic, but they seem to have a devoted little following and are probably one of the more respected bands on the scene. I, unfortunately, have yet to hit up a show, so I don't have a lot of real evidence to back any of this up.
