MLW MLW 2019: Bring The Style

MAJOR LEAGUE WRESTLING 2019: BRING THE STYLE
    PRESENTED BY RASKY

In 2002, a wrestling company opened its doors to provide an alternative to the sports entertainment the was being marketed to wrestling fans around the world. Cast with characters who could be considered the misfit toys after not being signed to the World Wrestling Federation following the closure of Extreme Championship Wrestling and World Championship Wrestling. Wrestlers like Jerry Lynn, Vampiro, Christopher Daniels, and Steve Corino made up the roster for the supposed alternative.

Then, in 2004, the company closed its doors.

However, in 2017. when that same one product began to feel to stale and stagnant once again: Major League Wrestling reopened its doors. They made an immediate impact in their first year scoring a television deal with BEIN SPORTS as well as a working agreement with top Mexican wrestling promotion: AAA. With stars like Low Ki, Pentagon Jr., Rey Fenix, UFC Star "Filthy" Tom Lawlor, and the legendary LA Park there is not a doubt that MLW is providing the wrestling content crav

Through the last two years, MLW has proven to become content for all to enjoy inviting the fans of Lucha Libre, Brawls, Hardcore, Technical Wrestling, and a variety of other styles to make for a variety of wrestling to coincide with their raw storytelling. Alongside their different approaches like Fight Clubs and Promotors, it brings a new style to a business that has been looking for a change.

Now, in 2019, where the wrestling world craves more alternatives than ever it is time for Major League Wrestling to make its name big once and for all.

Yep, I’ll be reading this. Been keeping up with MLW a lot, and I find it a really easy show to watch. One hour weekly shows should be manageable too. Good luck!

    RASKY! THE RETURN!

Sad to see your 2001 thread end, especially knowing where you planned to take it, but an MLW thread sounds pretty awesome to me. I watch it every week on youtube so I'll definitely be interested to see what you do with the product. Plus, we all know what you can do with one hour programming, everyone loved your 205 thread!

    Good luck!

PS. Did you just ruin this week's episode for me? Son of a....

Good luck with this. I’ve been following MLW for quite a while now. The roster is still stacked, even though they have lost a ton over the past few months. Between The Contra Unit, Hart Dynasty and Salina’s crew, you have a lot to work with. I’m very excited to see what you do with this.

PS: push Mancer to the moon!

I've never really watched MLW and a lot of those names are new to me, but I'm still looking forward to this. You're a great writer and not knowing backstories and whatnot won't be too much of a barrier for me to overcome. Excited to see what you come up with, good luck!

Re: MLW 2019: Bring The Style

Post Fury Road News & Rumors

-- Salina De La Renta will once again be the Executive Producer of MLW: Fusion on July 13th from Chicago, Illinois just one week after the next MLW event: Kings of the Colosseum. Expect these next few weeks to include announcements from Selina of how her show will be put together.

-- Dr. Wagner Jr. has agreed to join Major League Wrestling and will be apart of the next set of tapings in Chicago for Kings of the Colosseum.

-- There is work going in from the MLW officials to put together a women’s division.

-- There are advertisements that Low Ki is being courted by agents, promotors, and managers now that his contract with Salina De La Renta has been annulled. There is no word on who could be the longest-reigning MLW World Heavyweight Champion’s new representation.

-- Adam Brooks, who was the loser in a battle with a returning Austin Aries, Vandal Ortagun, and The Anoa’i Family - Lance and Samu Anoa’i - have all finished dates with Major League Wrestling.

-- Expect some work between All Elite Wrestling and Major League Wrestling after Brian Pillman Jr. - who has a lengthy contract with MLW - appeared at Double Or Nothing in their Casino Battle Royale.

-- The same can be said with Impact Wrestling after the two companies worked together over Wrestlemania weekend.

    Episode 60 Preview

Austin Aries Avoids The Body Count

Following a victory in his MLW return, Austin Aries spoke to cameras about what he is going to accomplish in the company. Not without a terrible attitude stating that he’d do what every wrestler sets out to do: Lose every match and say he’s the draw of the company while being embroiled in a bromance with some country guy.

Some obvious shots at Sami Callihan who Austin Aries has been feuding with on Twitter for months now. Aries then retracts his statements, and sarcasm, saying that he is coming directly for LA Park and the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.

Which brought in the dangerous Contra Unit into the scene. The fight team of Jacob Fatu, Josef Samael, and Simon Gotch has been running rough shot over Major League Wrestling with a growing body count including the former MLW World Heavyweight Champions Tom Lawlor and Low Ki respectively even defeating - and injuring - the former champion and the debuting Von Erich Family.

With the Contra Unit surrounding Austin Aries, he was put in a compromising position with a three on one assault on the way. Before Contra could get in some shots, they were jumped from behind by Ross and Marshall Von Erich who made a statement that they have unfinished business with Contra. As a crowd of producers and referees looked to break up the action, Austin Aries crawled away from the action.

Despite missing the attack, Aries words has gotten himself a match for this week's edition of Fusion. In the main event of the show it will be Austin Aries versus Simon Gotch.

    Young, Dumb, and Craving Opportunities

Jordan Oliver’s mouth has put him in a high-profile match. The youngest member of the MLW roster went on record with backstage interviewer Kaci Lennox saying he should be put in higher positions on the card and given championship opportunities. Then, he wrongly put out Teddy Hart’s name when the MLW World Middleweight Champion was walking past the segment. After a quick war of words, Teddy Hart challenged Jordan Oliver to stop talking like an idiot and start fighting by going one on one with Hart on this edition of Fusion. It has been made official as the two will meet in non-title action.

Confirmed for MLW Fusion: Episode 60

    Main Event
Austin Aries versus Simon Gotch of the Contra Unit

Ace Romero and Barrington Hughes versus Rich Swann and Myron Reed

    Non-Title Match
Jordan Oliver versus MLW World Middleweight Champion Teddy Hart of The New Era Hart Foundation

    David versus Goliath
Ariel Dominguez versus Jacob Fatu of the Contra Unit

    Tom Lawlor’s Medical Update

Salina De La Renta’s plans for LA Park as MLW World Heavyweight Champion

    Major League Wrestling Presents

    MLW: Fusion
    Episode 60
    June 8th, 2019
    From Milwaukee, Wisconsin

    &

    VERSUS

    &

    Tag Team Match
JUSTICE (Rich Swann and Myron Reed) versus Ace Romero & Barrington Hughes

Kicking off the night is tag team action for a hot Milwaukee crowd. The team of Rich Swann and Myron Reed came out with signs calling for “Justice” as well as duct tape covering their mouths. The duo feeling held down by the management of MLW especially when referee Doug Markham has ‘screwed’ them out of multiple opportunities and wins.

Their opponents tonight weigh in at a combined 800 pounds - Ace Romero and Barrington Hughes. A team that has come together due to issues with The Contra Unit now joins the races for the MLW World Tag Team Championships.

The action was surprisingly back and forth about two minutes into the six minute bout. Mainly due to Myron Reed distracting the Doug Markham when it seemed to be over for his partner Rich Swann. Despite best efforts, Ace Romero and Barrington Hughes secured a victory when Romero put away Reed with a Running Senton dropping all his 400 pounds on Reed.

Winners via Pinfall: Ace Romero & Barrington Hughes

With Barrington Hughes and Ace Romero celebrating, we cut away to Jim Cornette and Rich - who are discussing the importance of this win with - saying that this duo could be a force in the MLW tag team division. Jim Cornette brings the subject to Fury Road wanting to discuss the events of the main event when cameras cut back to the ring.

Rich Swann and Myron Reed have gone absolutely berserk! Swann throws down a ringside barricade, Reed is going under the ring to pull out multiple weapons. Rich pulling tape off from the ropes before turning to unwrap the turnbuckle pads from their designated areas. Reed returns to the ring with a kendo stick as he backs official Doug Markham into the corner. Markham choosing not to engage in physicality as he backs up, Rich Swann yelling at him for once again “screwing over the top prospects in Major League Wrestling.”

As Doug has no place else to go, another batch of officials come sprinting down to the ring to back away the team of JUSTICE. Just as Doug’s calvary slides into the ring, Rich Swann sucker punches Doug Markham! The two men quickly rolling out of the ring to avoid consequences. Rich Bocchini tries to dissolve the seriousness of the situation sending us to the new MLW National Openweight Champion: Alexander Hammerstone.

    BACKSTAGE AREA:

With JUSTICE’s breakdown continuing, we cut backstage to the inaugural MLW National Openweight Champion Alexander Hammerstone without his Dynasty stablemates.

Hammerstone starts off with a smug grin on his face, eyes locked on his newly won championship. “You know.. It’s funny. I have never been anyone’s favorite wrestler. No one in The Dynasty has been anyone’s favorite. They cannot relate to us. Yet I walked away as the first National Openweight Champion.”

Hammerstone turns away from the championship to the camera, beginning to shout in the direction. “This isn’t what anyone wanted. The fans wanted to see a boy who cannot live up to his father’s potential win this belt.” Hammerstone calms down. “They wanted to see The Hart Dynasty on top of the world because they are scared of seeing someone better than them continue to exceed. Let alone three.”

“Bringing this championship home was not some sort of dumb luck; this was damn obvious since I was put into this tournament. I welcome all who want to take this belt from me because you will fail and fail and fail.” Hammerstone laughs, looking back at the belt to rub his thumb over it before looking to the camera again. “This is going to be the picture for a long time. The Dynasty is your destiny, MLW.”

-- Hype for Kings of the Colosseum on July 6th--

    HIGHLIGHT VIDEO:

Cutting away from the complete mental breakdown of JUSTICE - we move to a recap of Fury Road showing parts of each match from the beginning to the end. Of those clips it includes:

Flamita and Rey Horus’ high-flying contest ended with his finishing Standing Moonsault Slam.
Low Ki defeating Ricky Martinez in a Grudge Match with a Knockout Elbow.
Samii Callihan and Mance Warner’s brutal Falls Count Anywhere Match with Callihan winning with a Piledriver. The two men shook hands after the match.
Alexander Hammerstone defeating Brian Pillman Jr. with the Nightmare Pendulum to win the MLW National Openweight Championship.
Teddy Hart retaining the MLW World Middleweight Championship over Jimmy Havoc with a Piledriver through a table.
Austin Aries getting a quick submission victory over Adam Brooks with the Horns of Aries.
The Contra Unit successfully defeating Tom Lawler and The Von Erichs with Marshall Von Erich being pinned by Jacob Fatu after a Samoan Splash from the top rope.
Then, following a vicious post match assault, LA Park defeated Tom Lawlor with a Spear for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship.

    VERSUS
    Singles Match
Jacob Fatu of Contra Unit versus Ariel Dominguez

Moving back into the ring is one of the smallest members of MLW versus one of the largest. Ariel Dominguez of Miami, Florida, is only 5’2” weighing in at 140 pounds. His opponent Jacob Fatu of Samoa comes in an exact foot taller than Dominguez as well as 145 pounds heavier.

Of course, Jacob Fatu was just on the winning team at Fury Road and is looking for more momentum. His match with Ariel Dominguez was a quick one with no offense from the Miami resident. Fatu ran his total body weight at Dominguez then connected with the signature Samoa Drop to put away his opponent.

    Winner via Pinfall: Jacob Fatu

With Fatu putting down Ariel Dominguez, there is no celebration from the largest member of the Contra Unit with his fellow fight club members - Simon Gotch and Josef Samaelcoming down to join him in the ring. Before Gotch enters, he searches under the ring for a brief moment to take a table out and slide it into the ring. Josef taing Dominguez, looking at him with complete disappoint before throwing him into Jacob Fatu for another devastating Samoa Drop. The body of Ariel completely lifeless with all of the Samoan Werewolf’s weight being dropped onto him again.

Now Simon Gotch enters the ring with the table as he sets up the foreign object into the corner. Fatu bringing Dominguez to his feet once more after body squashing second Samoa Drop. Jim Cornette calling for this attack to stop, questioning where someone like Austin Aries is right now who could get an early beating on Simon Gotch.

Despite Cornette’s rampaging curiosity, it leaves the smallest member of MLW in this three on one assault. Josef takes Ariel from Fatu only to throw him back to eat a Superkick… Sending Dominguez into a stiff right elbow from Samal…Which Simon Gotch then takes the falling man to connect with a German Suplex into the table that smashes Ariel into the corner. An absolute massacre from Contra Unit with the gruesome ending as a Contra flag is placed by Josef over Dominguez’s lifeless body.

    BACKSTAGE:

With Contra Unit standing tall, we go backstage to backstage interviewer Kaci Lennoxjoined by Salina De La Renta, who is with the promoter of new MLW World Heavyweight Champion LA Park as well as a variety of Latin American stars in Major League Wrestling.

Kaci is all smiles as she welcomes the promoter of Promociones Dorados. “I am backstage with Salina De La Renta. It’s been a huge week for both you Salina and Promociones Dorado as LA Park left Fury Road as the new MLW World Heavyweight Champion. What are the plans now that the MLW World Heavyweight Championship is in your hands?”

“What’re you smiling for? What have you done exactly?” A snarky comment from Salina as she is also all smiles with it being undoubtedly being a sinister one. “You want to know why I’m happy? I told everyone, I told everyone that The Destroyer was finally going to claim what was his. I’m happy because the MLW World Heavyweight Championship finally has an owner who will respect it and defend it with honor and dignity.”

Lennox questions De La Renta: “Tom Lawlor was undefeated as champion, and his first defeat was only moments before LA Park when he faced Contra Unit alongside The Von Erich’s.”

Salina is immediately irked by the mention that LA Park was not the first. to defeat Tom Lawlor. However, she is quick to defend The Destroyer. "LA Park won an opportunity in Battle Riot, and he took advantage of the opportunity. Accolades don't matter when you're a legend. And Tom Lawlor's won't reign as soon as LA Park puts down Davey Boy Smith Jr. in two weeks and his stupid, overrated Hart Foundation."

Salina De La Renta walks off the set leaving Kaci Lennox as she announces that Teddy Hart will be going one on one with Jordan Oliver up next.

-- Hype for The Von Erich’s Fusion debut NEXT WEEK --

    VERSUS
    Non-Title Match
    Singles Match

MLW World Middleweight Champion Teddy Hart of New Era Hart Foundation versus Jordan Oliver

This is a quick paced match between the MLW World Middleweight Champion and one of his top contenders for the championship. Teddy Hart won the World Middleweight Championship in December of 2018, and he has had success after success with no intentions of losing the championship.

His opponent is the up and coming, cocky 19 year old: Jordan Oliver. Oliver, as mentioned in the preview, was caught complaining at his lack of opportunities by Hart, so the champion is giving him a big one tonight.

The competition started off on fire from Jordan Oliover knowing the opportunity is here to prove himself to not only Hart but MLW officials. It’s made obvious the type of action we’ll get from the 19 year old at least as he comes running into Teddy with a spin kick just as the champion was taking off his flamboyant jacket.

That one cheap shot put Jordan Oliver early in the match. Keeping Teddy Hart grounded while also using his own offensive maneuvers along the lines of a high vertical drop-kick, a suicide dive, and slamming Hart's shoulder into the steel corner a few times.

In a typical fashion, the momentum of Oliver was lost when the cocky, young attitude got in the way. Teddy comes in with a comeback that will hopefully get over with the crowd as he shoulder blocked Jordan through the middle rope, springboarded into him with a flying clothesline, and ending it with three
    enzuigiris.

In the end, Teddy Hart put away Oliver with a Hart Attack 2.0 from the top for a victory and some momentum under his belt.

    Winner via Pinfall: Teddy Hart

-- Hype for Never Say Never on July 27th --

    BACKSTAGE:

Brian Pillman Jr. and Davey Boy Smith Jr. are backstage discussing the events that just transpired as well as Davey being named the first challenger to new MLW World Heavyweight Champion LA Park. Davey leaves the room saying he needs to take care of media, shaking hands with his New Era Hart Foundation mate, and leaving Pillman Jr. alone in the room.

As Brian releases a breath, taping up wrist tape, he is attacked from behind by Jordan Oliver! The man who just lost to Teddy Hart is now attacking the second generation star. Oliver taking the man by the back of his mullet to throw him into the metal locker room doors. Jordan not wasting anytime to then grab the back of Brian's mullet to throw the side of his face into the metal next.

Oliver yelling at Pillman Jr. that he deserves to be noticed and demands some f***ing respect around MLW. Followed by a Double Foot Curb Stomp to Brian as his face is smashed onto the ground!

A short yet menacing attack from the 19 year old as he looks down at Brian Pillman Jr. - the front of his bullet beginning to show the crimson mask - while we go back to the ring.

Austin Aries versus Simon Gotch of Contra Unit

A big time main event coming off Fury Road as a returning Austin Aries is looking to keep his name off the body count of the Contra Unit. The Milwaukee native is out tonight to a warm crowd response despite displaying some cockiness expected from the self-proclaimed Greatest Man That Ever Lived.

Simon Gotch of the vicious, unpredictable Contra Unit on the other hand is out to a chorus of boos. But he is also surprisingly out without Jacob Fatu and Josef Samael. Jim Cornette immediately making a connection that this is unusual for Contra Unit, and something is fishy so he suggests that Austin Aries pay close attention through his match.

This was a slow build match leading into some near falls in the end. A long lock up trading dominance before Austin Aries got the first round of control in this match. A technical way of doing things alongside innovative counters to keep control on his side. Unfortauntly for him, about six minutes in, a back suplex counter followed by a kick to the back of Aries' leg brought Gotch into the control.

Simon's offensive maneuvers differed in style as he went for hard-hitting and harmful. Clubbing blows and kick, quick suplexes, and using ringside environment to put himself in control. Aries did have some answers to keep the match moving.

Within the last three minutes, it became a frenzy of signature maneuvers alongside near falls. Aries with a 450 Splash and the Horns of Aries for a near tap out. Gotch was set on the Death Valley Driver as well as a stiff German Suplex that seemed to put Aries down on his head.

At the end of the match, Simon Gotch looked for a running knee strike. Aries had him well-scouted as moved out of the way, grabbing Gotch by his trunks, and rolled up the member of Contra Unit for a main event win.

    Winner via Pinfall: Austin Aries

As Aries’ hand is raised as the winner, the Contra Unit logo displays on the screen as Jacob Fatu and Josef Samael make their way out. The duo not wasting any time sprinting into the ring with Fatu knocking down the victor with a clobbering blow. Samel helps Simon Gotch to his feet with the former member of Team Filthy furious with his defeat. The Samoan Werewolf dragging Austin Aries to a seated position in the corner with Josef yelling orders - Jacob comes in with a running attack smashing his body into the defenseless Aries.

The Greatest Man That Has Ever Lived is slumped in the corner as the marching orders continue on. Samael calling for Fatu to bring the man back to his feet then telling Gotch to go get a table from under the ring once again.

Contra Unit is preparing for same heinous attack they put on Ariel Dominguez when...

The Lone Soldier of MLW is here - Low-Ki is here! The former MLW World Heavyweight Champion stands at the top of the stage with Simon Gotch at the bottom of the ramp. Low Ki making eye contact with Gotch as he comes running down the ramp with a huge elbow that knocked out Ricky Martinez last Saturday. Jacob Fatu and Josef Samael stand tall in the ring, and MLW’s residential Knockout Artist is not backing down from a fight.

Low Ki entering the ring to go right into Samael with a fury of right hands. Jim Cornette yelling that Low Ki is doing what every man fears to do, respecting the work of the former Promociones Dorado member. Then, Jacob Fatu turns his attention to the man he laid out just weeks ago. Headbutting Low Ki to immediately send down the hard hitting wrestler. Josef collects himself then is back t0 directing the monster of Contra Unit. Jacob Fatu stalks Low Ki, awaiting to hit his Superkick as Ki turns around… And Fatu comes in for the Superkick but Austin Aries runs in to push the leg out of the way… The (now sloppy) kick hits the side of Josef’s head instead!

Samael is taken down by the kick rolling out of the ring. And for the FIRST TIME EVER~ Someone seems to have Contea Unit’s number. Fatu looks down at Samael, turns around, and he eats a rolling elbow from Austin Aries. It only keeps him dazed with Low Ki and Austin Aries teaming up for a running double dropkick to put Fatu back against the ropes. Then, The Lone Solider comes in with his own elbow to send the Samoan Werewolf out of the ring!

Fatu, however, lands on his feet and he is furious. But he is choosing not to enter the ring - instead getting both Josef and Simon from the floor to slowly retreat up the ramp. The crowd is rowdy with Rich B- hyping what just occurred as the show closes. Contra Unit could have found their matches.

Re: MLW 2019: Bring The Style

It was really fun to read another MLW show that wasn't written by myself here in the section. I always get nervous booking the same company/period as other people in the section are booking at the same time, but seeing how you handle the roster is a treat. Very fun show.

#JUSTICE is a neat heeel stable to play with and I'm excited to see your take on them. I think they have the potential to be an upper-level tagteam or stable if added to and booked properly. The outspoken/whiny athlete angle can be spun one of two ways. You can portray it heel or face and you going heel is an easy way to help your audiance pick a side easily. Booking them face, could have been tricky. The 'spoiled athlete/shut-up and play ball stereotype is still very real for some people. Them losing and flipping out made sense. What will be the reaction and counter-reaction?

The incoming push of Jordan Oliver is interesting. Him being so young and still developing physically means you will have some things to book around. Pairing him with Pillman is interesting because they have very similar "bad-boy" gimmicks. It will be interesting to see how you take it.

As strong as CONTRA was booked, Low Ki really left a strong image as the show went off the air. This is the first crack in their armor and Low Ki looks uber-bad ass here. So, do Lawlor and Ki intersect at CONTRA? How will they react? That could be a great way to go. However you book it, I'll be reading with anticipation.

    Great first show here.

Re: MLW 2019: Bring The Style

Just read the show fan of Justice its a intresting take and can go many different places plus Rich Swann is awesome so im all for anything with him the first thing I notice about your btb is that it is well written and clear to read I like how it isn't to long either I think really long out ones usually lose my intrest but you got alot of good things going given a roster of stars we dont usually see here on BTB Fatu, Hart, Pillman Jr, Davey Boy, Low Ki which btw is a great way to end your show.

Austin Aries I would think you got a big future for, I will keep up with this and will be reading great job. You did a hell of a job making Contra big especially by having them feud with the two biggest stars in MLW.

    Spoiler:

    CWA World Heavyweight Champion

Re: MLW 2019: Bring The Style

I said I'd check this out- got some time so figured I would drop a review and offer my thoughts as I read the show.

First thing, I love the presentation and how clean and easy the show is to read. I think you was the first person I seen using the "box" to present your show that me and Skeng adopted and I love it. Kudos to you if so, hope you're cool with us borrowing that style.

    Right, here we go!

    MLW: Fusion EP 60 Review:

    - Interesting first match up! JUSTICE has me intrigued as to how they develop citing issues with the officials and management while the combination of Romero & Barrington visual would be insane. I was expecting Swann & Reed to win but to my surprise, they do not and Romero & Barrington are quickly established as a potential force in the tag team division. Post-match stuff with JUSTICE going mad was cool enough. I'm fully expecting MLW officials to come down hard on the duo for their actions.

    - Good promo from Hammerstone.

    - Nice little recap of what went down at Fury Road.

    - Jacob Fatu vs Dominguez next! I love Fatu- glad he won as I suspected he would comfortably. Ending was good too with the Contra Unit showcasing their dominance and aggressive nature laying down a marker and warning to all opposing them.

    - Nice segment with Salina.

    - Von Erich's next week! Cool with me.

    - Good match between Teddy Hart vs Jordan Oliver. Predictable outcome but nothing wrong with that if it makes sense.

    - Damn! Oliver making a statement and brutally attacking Brian Pillman Jr

    - Good Main Event- pleased to see A Double, Austin Aries win.

    - I loved the ending with Low Ki coming down and making the save. The idea of Aries & Low Ki teaming to face the Contra Unit sounds awesome.

Overall = Good first show mate. Really nice and tidy. An easy read and enjoyable.
