Re: WC's Fave Five Movie Musicals~!

Alright folks, all the lists are in and we've got 54 movies to get through. Our first portion of the list features a whopping 13 entries, so we'd better get right into them...

    14T. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes - 10 Points (Kayla #5)

    14T. Grease 2 - 10 Points (Booty Love #5)

    14T. Happy Feet - 10 Points (Shade #5)

    14T. Imaginaerum - 10 Points (Thundercat #5)

14T. The Jazz Singer - 10 Points (Wolf Beast #5)

14T. The Muppet Christmas Carol - 10 Points (Regal or Riot #5)

14T. The Prince of Egypt - 10 Points (Kairi HoHo #5)

    14T. Ray - 10 Points (Slick Mitch #5)

    14T. Rent - 10 Points (Necro #5)

    14T. School of Rock - 10 Points (TWG #5)

    14T. UHF - 10 Points (Baloocha #5)

14T. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - 10 Points (Fuji Vice #5)

14T. Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story - 10 Points (Sakura #5)

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg was one of my first exposures to non-American cinema and it's always stuck with me. I'm not sure it really is one of my all-time favourite musicals but I listed it for that more personal reason. I considered voting for UHF but at the end of the day I don't really consider it a musical in the strictest sense. It is one of my favourite comedies though, so I have no problem seeing it appear on any list. Grease 2, The Jazz Singer, Muppet Christmas Carol and Walk Hard are all solid shouts.

Next up, a slightly smaller update sees us covering multiple decades among the 6 movies that tied for 13th place~!

Rent was my last cut and Walk Hard was right before it. Both excellent.
Now is Grease 2 a better film than Grease? No. But I knew it wouldn’t get any other votes and for these two songs alone it made my list.

Oh man, had I known Grease 2 would get a vote...I would've thrown one it's way. It's not better, but it's not nearly as bad as it's perceived to be...okay, well it is, but it's still great. Michelle Pfeiffer...boom! Adrian Zmed being as cheesy as possible, but great and Christopher McDonald is never bad in a movie. Good pick!

I can't believe no one else picked Rent even though I know it was a disappointment still thought it was solid.

Not sure I'd count School of Rock as a musical. There's only like 2 songs in the movie that the cast sing and the rest of it is just a soundtrack.

Love Muppet Christmas Carol but I included in with Disney animations as something I didn't consider for a best musical list.

I would have, if I didn't think anyone else would have. It's actually one of my favorites. Quite a tear jerker, too.

I've oddly seen almost all of the above, and liked all the ones I saw.

UHF, Umbrellas, and Imaginareum are the only ones I have not seen.
    Everything will surely be alright.

It was on the list linked in the OP so I went with it. Realise now that there were a ton of better shouts though.

Walk Hard would have made my list had I remembered, that movie is hilarious. The only others films I’ve seen from this batch is UHF and Ray, the latter wasn’t considered but I did like it and UHF I didn’t even realize was a musical it’s been so long since I’ve seen it.

Re: WC's Fave Five Movie Musicals~!

    One more update for today...

13T. Across the Universe - 20 Points (Slick Mitch #4)

13T. Back to the Beach - 20 Points (Booty Love #4)

13T. Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam - 20 Points (Kairi HoHo #4)

13T. Inside Llewyn Davis - 20 Points (Wolf Beast #4)

    13T. Newsies - 20 Points (Necro #4)

13T. Repo! The Genetic Opera - 20 Points (Thundercat #4)

Out of the ones up there, I've seen Back to the Beach, Newsies and Repo, and I'd say all are fine choices. I've been meaning to get around to Inside Llewyn Davis for a couple of years now so I'll kick it up a few notches on the list.

Next up, an 8-way tie for 12th place brings us my favourite musical ever, though one I didn't vote for since I'm talking about the stage version.

Back at the Beach is a lot of fun. A magnificent 50s throw back that’s totally 80s.

Re: WC's Fave Five Movie Musicals~!

Muppet Christmas Carol is the only one I've seen in the first batch aside from Imaginaerum, which is alright I really only voted for it because I'm a fan of the band Nightwish who made the movie based on their album which I thought was pretty cool and it was a decent movie for something just made by a band.
Glad I got a list in just for the fact that I figured I'd be the only one voting for Repo, haven't seen anything else in the second batch.

Only for the Wikipedia link, I’d have completely overlooked Inside Llewelyn Davis myself. Wouldn’t have ordinarily even been a film I’d have been interested in seeing only for it being on a flight, but thoroughly enjoyable, and Oscar Isaac is the man! Haven’t seen anything else in that batch, but Repo looks interesting for sure.

Re: WC's Fave Five Movie Musicals~!

Good morning (or afternoon) folks, here's our 30 pointers...

    12T. Footloose - 30 Points (Necro #3)

    12T. La La Land - 30 Points (Thundercat #3)

    12T. Les Miserables - 30 Points (TWG #4, Postman Dave #5)

12T. The Little Mermaid - 30 Points (Jimmy King #3)

    12T. Mulan - 30 Points (Sakura #3)

12T. The Muppet Movie - 30 Points (Fuji Vice #3)

    12T. A Star is Born - 30 Points (Kairi HoHo #3)

12T. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street - 30 Points (Baloocha #3)

I debated between The Muppet Movie and The Great Muppet Caper for my vote but in the end I went with the one that had the better songs. I do prefer Caper as a movie, but you really just can't go wrong with either. Footloose, The Little Mermaid and Mulan are all solid shouts, though none really ever had a shot at making my list.

Les Miserables is my favourite stage production (I've seen it 5 times over the years) but I really didn't care for the movie. I think Russell Crowe's Javert performance really turned me off, though I'll admit everyone else was good. Don't care for La La Land or Sweeney Todd and while I think it's bizarre to list a movie that came out last year as one of your favourites, I've given up questioning HoHo's picks after the Camp Rock 2 one last time out.

Next up, just a tiny little 6-way tie for 11th spot~!

    I liked:

    Sweeney Todd (Late cut)
    Muppet Movie
    Little Mermaid
    Les Mis
    Across The Universe

    Have not seen the rest.

    Yeah.......................still have not seen Footloose. o_O;

Les Mis is a guilty pleasure, want to see the stage show at some point. I know most cinephiles hate this version though haha.

Loked Footloose enough, need to give La La Land another look as I didn't think much of it first time. Like everyone involved in it though.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. I like that song though.

Little Mermaid was the first of two Disney films I included in my list, always been a favorite of mine. The only other films I’ve seen out of this batch are Mulan, Sweeney Todd, La La Land, A Star Is Born, and Across The Universe. The latter would have made my list had I remembered it but the others while I like them, wouldn’t have been included.

    Muppet Movie is awesome

Footloose is great but the original isn’t a musical. They don’t sing one song in it. That Wikipedia list is bogus.
