DOUKI vs Ren Narita was pretty good. DOUKI looked pretty decent and stands out in his own way. I haven't watched the main event yet but out of the whole show, that match is worth watching to make your own opinion on him. Wasn't into the other matches. El Phantasmo is pretty boring to watch. Doesn't stand out to me at all. Maybe he'll get it later on but as of now, not a fan.

Re: NJPW Best of the Super Juniors XVI

    Recommendations for the four nights.

    Day One: Sho/Takagi & Ishimori/Lee

    Day Two: Douki/Ren Narita

    Day Three: Sho/Lee & Maybe Taka/Gresham

    Day Four: Ren Narita/Eagles & Ospreay/Romero.

Far too many of these matches this tournament are too long for their own good, but there are some good gems in here.

Dude...DOUKI sucks. Not necessarily because he's particularly bad but they're turning him into Taichi II. That main event vs. Taguchi was awful. Ospreay/Rocky was very good though, Rocky has been the unsung hero of B Block, probably the best besides Will actually.

I wouldn't say that he sucks. I think he perfectly fine and brings something different to the table. Although I don't think he should be having main event matches with Taguchi or anyone really.

Shingo has really shined this tournament but that's not really a surprise. He had a really good match with Kanemaru that people should check out.

Anyone else think it's weird that Ospreay isn't main eventing shows, but Taguchi is?

I've seen nothing since Day 1. Will have to become a cherry pick tournament now for me.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the deal with that is. Usually the people in the main event spots are top contenders for the finalists. Could Taguchi be chosen over Ospreay for the finals?

Re: NJPW Best of the Super Juniors XVI

The first Korakuen Hall show of the BOSJ!!!

Block A Match - Taiji Ishimori vs. TAKA Michinoku
Good opener. I liked the opening moments of the match where Taka showed off his quickness early on, and boy was he quick. Exactly what this needed to be. Quick and compact but entertaining too.

Block B Match - Bandido vs. Ren Narita
This was awesome. Ren Narita has really stepped up this BOSJ and is arguably MVP of B-Block. His hope spots were really well done and the heat for the match was hot. You could really buy the little roll ups that Narita did on Bandido. Bandido did his stuff and shined too.

Block A Match - Jonathan Gresham vs. Titan
Decent match. The grappling looked good but I did think it had a total exhibition feel and I would’ve preferred it to be a bit more of a struggle. The match got better as it went on though. Crowd seemed into it. But I enjoyed it for what it was.

Block B Match - Rocky Romero vs. YOH
Another really good match. Some good Student v Mentor storytelling as well as the addition of Rocky’s pre existing leg injury. I do think YOH has fallen behind SHO in the pecking order but he is still a pretty good wrestler and showed it here. Rocky looked really good as well. Good stuff.

Block A Match - Dragon Lee vs. Tiger Mask
Not a great match but solid overall. Both guys clearly have a ton of respect for each other and it came across as such.

Block A Match - SHO vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru
KANEMARU!!!!!!!! The finish is pure genius. Also, Sho should get rid of the theme song. It’s the only thing that doesn’t make him come across as a complete star.

Block B Match - Robbie Eagles vs. Ryusuke Taguchi
Good match with some nice counters. Eagles seems like he is settling in now and starting to catch his groove. Taguchi was good and the crowd loved his little antics.

Block A Match - Marty Scurll vs. Shingo Takagi
Great match. Perfectly highly Shingo’s versatility. He went from bullying SHO to being the fighting face against two people. He does it so well too with his explosive offence. The early pertions when he was wrecking Scrull was really good. Scrull more than held his own and made his flash offence work against Shingo’s.

Block B Match - El Phantasmo vs. Will Ospreay
I thought that this was good but I can certainly see why some would hate it. Not that I'm that high on it either. Had certain Will-isms (Goofy facial expressions and faux dramatic moments like the low blow tease by Phantasmo) that can hurt his matches but it had a ton of good stuff to go alongside that. They paced out the big moments relative well until the closing stretch. The match was pretty excited and didn’t have much pacing issues that many of the matches this BOSJ have had, Ishimori vs Scrull for example. I liked the majority of it and so did the crowd.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the Sho Perkins theme music. Having new music is fine because I'm into his singles push, but it's hard not to have TJP gamer gimmick thoughts when he comes out to that.

I watched Day 3 last night, Titan Vs Shingo was probably my favourite match because Shingo is booked so well and we were in and out in 10 snug minutes. Sho Vs Dragon Lee is a perfect example of going long for the sake of going long in a NJPW main event, you could of easily shaved 10 minutes off that thing. Will try to rattle off Day 4 tonight as I continue my catch up.

Most likely. I don't think they should have him win if he isn't going to be apart of the company with any regularity after September, not even a small run. But Gedo will do whatever he wants.

Here is a small reminded of the final card for the BOSJ:

    - BOSJ Finals: A Block Winner vs B Block Winner

    - US Title Match: Juice Robinson (c) Jon Moxley

    - Tanahashi Returns!: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Jay White

I'm still predicting Shingo Takagi vs Will Ospreay for the finals.

Re: NJPW Best of the Super Juniors XVI

I'm up to Day 10 now, and this tournament really picked up when it went to Korakuen Hall.

Matches like Ospreay/ELP, Ospreay/Bandido, Dragon Lee/Shingo, Dragon Lee/Titan and ELP/Rocky really delivered. I have never enjoyed El Phantasmo before but he's really proven himself on this tour with how over he's gotten in a short space of time and both the Ospreay and Rocky matches are pretty great if a bit too long in the tooth. I think ELP is gonna be a regular after this tournament is over and Eagles/ELP could be a tag team on the rise. My favourite match in the last week of the tournament however has to be Ospreay/Narita, doesn't overstay it's welcome and is awesome for every second, Ospreay really gives a lot up for Narita in a selfless performance, but that's Will, he's been great all tournament at getting something very good out of his opponents.

For the love of god give Gresham 15 minutes plus with an opponent before this tournament is over.

Ospreay has really come into his own as a great wrestler. And not just a good aerial one either. Improved in other styles too. He just needs to get rid of his annoying tendencies (goofy facial expressions & prone to be overdramatic) but he is easily one of the my favourites to watch.

Re: NJPW Best of the Super Juniors XVI

If you're going to watch anything of the 31/05 Best Of The Super Juniors show, watch Shingo Takagi vs Taiji Ishimori in the main event (I would recommend Dragon Lee vs Scurll too, if you have got time to watch it all before the finals). Not only is it a great match because of the dynamics of two former staples of Dragon Gate and Pro Wrestling NOAH going against each other in a New Japan ring, it's pretty damn great. Considering Ishimori has been heavily rumored to be injured all tournament and had to tone it down for most of it, this was extremely impressive. One thing this tournament has lacked is good pacing in the matches but this match did good in that regard. Fills its time well and gets the best out of both men.

As predicted, Shingo Takagi has now won the A-Block. Unbeaten too! Zero's wishes came true.

Really pulling for Shingo to win this. I think I might need to pray to Jobu himself and the last time I did that The Eagles won the SB hmm

Seriously though I've always been a fan of Shingo going back my first Match I saw with him in ROH, winning the Tag Titles with Doi over the Briscoes. Shingo if he wins would probably be one of the oldest talents if not the oldest to win the Juniors Tourney right? Anyways I'm looking forward to that, White vs Ace should be a fun one as well and theirs plenty of other Tags that should be lovely too.

Also, Hiromu put something up on twitter that seemed to hint he’d be there tonight.

Ospreay/Shingo could well be a MOTYC, only downside is it’s pretty predictable who will win.

Re: NJPW Best of the Super Juniors XVI

Shingo Takagi vs Ospreay could be great. The MVP of their blocks. The two most pushed in the Junior division and clear top stars. Two of the best wrestlers in the company actually too. Can't wait. Ospreay can bump like no other and Shingo rules regardless of opponent.

Moxley vs Juice could be fine if Moxley doesn't show his 2016-19 form. Juice is a good opponent because he can adapt with different opponents which will help Moxley adapt to the in-house style opposed being thrown in to the deep end with Okada and Naito.

Jay White really doesn't have chemistry with Tanahashi like he does with Okada and Ospreay but like people say, it sometimes takes time to develop that connection (Kevin Owens once said it took a ton of matches to get a have with Sami Zayn). So I have faith that this can be at least fun. Tanahashi's return will mean tons of crowd noise.
