Darby is great but no. There are so many people that have a bigger match spread with better matches.

I think there's a great chance next year for someone from AEW to win this award given their TV show is much more watchable than Raw/SD and interest in NJPW is down. I have guys like Moxley, PAC and Darby all hovering around in that top 20 wrestlers of the year discussion. In fact if Moxley didn't fuck up his elbow and would of had a straight up singles match with Omega at All Out and wrestled at Bloodsport he'd of had so much variety that I'd seriously consider him a contender for WOTY, it's really just the 5 months of nothing at the start of the year that hurt his case.

Chris Jericho, Tessa Blanchard and Sami Callihan are the only three I can consider for this at this point. And I think Chris is the one standing above them, he's just been so damn great as AEW World Champ and is delivering some of the best promo work of his career.

To my point about there being no stand out winners in a few categories, I'm left thinking there's been no male wrestler this year clearly stronger than anyone else, it's not like last year where I didn't think anyone could touch Walter. This year I've effectively got a 4 way tie between Walter, Starr, Thatcher and Ospreay for this award, and I'll be leaving Ospreay off my noms because he stopped being interesting in when BOSJ finished.

When I think about it hard, Starr is probably #1 for the variety of matches he had and having the most matches that I thought were legit great and hit a level very few have this year.

I constantly changed who I had as my WOTY. Very tough with no real clear winner. In the end I went with the person who had the most good matches that I wrote down
