We talked about in the Dong Chasers thread. It sucked that I missed the first half of the Derby cause I was watching other programs. I end up catching the other half and it was a thrill ride.

Man, this All-Star weekend was better than I thought it would be. HR Derby was a huge success for sure. Filled with young guys and it just shows that the league is in good hands. Not only that, but the actual All-Star game was competitive as hell. Pitchers ruled this one. Looking forward to the second half! Go Yankees!

Tyler Skaggs mom throwing a first pitch strike. Every Angel wearing 45. Trout going deep. A combined no hitter.

    Moment of the year.

    Indeed.

Some interesting stuff I saw posted on Twitter:
    - Tyler Skaggs' mother throw first pitch (Angels threw no-hitter)
    - Trout hits HR exactly 454 feet (Skaggs wore #45)
    - This was the 11th game that the Angels threw a no-hitter (Skaggs wore #11 in high school)
    - The Angels scored 7 runs in the 1st inning, 13 runs in total (Skaggs birthday is on 7/13)

If that doesn't give you chills, I don't know what will. What a moment.

Re: 2019 MLB Season Discussion Thread

The Braves got exactly what they were looking for and that's a proper closer to put the pieces togethet in the MLB trade deadline. They acquired closers Mark Melancon from the Tigers, trading away Tristan Beck and Dan Winkler. And Shane Greene from the Tigers, trading away Joey Wentz and Travis Demeritte. Out of both trades, they didn't even trade one of the players their main roster, to get those guys. I love it!

The Braves can use both Melancon and even use Luke Jackson as middle relief pitchers. I know, Jackson gave us fans heart attacks whether he'll win us the game, or blow the save. Greene's the main guy, for how he pitched in Detroit, he'll get the job done and gives us fans more relief.

While the Braves got their relief pitchers, the Astros won the trade deadline by acquiring Zack Grienke from the Diamondbacks, trading away four minor league prospects and the D-Backs pay $24 million of Greinke's remaining salary of $77 million. The Astros' pitching rotation is insane alongside with Gerrit Cole and Justin Verlander, and that's only three pitchers.

I'm stunned the Dodgers didn't give up two of Ruiz, May, or Lux for Felipe. They needed to go all in and get that ring, and they didn't.

I completely forgot that the Braves has added pitcher Chris Martin from the Rangers as well.

    The Bullpen looks legit now.

Re: 2019 MLB Season Discussion Thread

I can't believe what I've witnessed with Craig Kimbrel this past week return from the injured list to blow everything, capped off with a brilliant display, back to back homers after we miraculously took the lead. 2 at bats and our season has turned to dust right before our eyes! And Joe's answer to this in the bottom? Báez!? This man can barely hold a bat, he put his thumb & arguably our best player at risk & put it on HIS shoulders? I couldn't believe it. And what of that bum Quintana who hasn't made it past 4 innings in what? 5 starts? Darvish somehow came on at the end but this shitty staff should be ashamed of themselves surely. The lineup is good, arguably great but every arm on this team should be on notice for the offseason & next season. No guaranteed spots. What the fuck was this!?

Re: 2019 MLB Season Discussion Thread

One of the most disappointing Seasons for my Phillies this Year after being officially eliminated from any Playoff hope. The Money spent on the Offense and the lack of attention on the Pitching and Bullpen did them so much this Season. If Nola wasn't Pitching that day, I didn't feel as a fan that this Team could win or let around score enough runs when such Pitcher was getting smacked around. I hope they add depth to that Pitching Staff, or they'll be seeing alot of watching in the Playoffs rather than playing in them.

    It's official.

The Minnesota Twins are the very first MLB team to hit 300 Home Runs in a single season. They have clinched the AL Central and they look poised for a deep playoff run. All they need to do is beat the Yankees... For the love of God, beat the Yankees.

That accomplishment really doesn't mean anything given how ridiculously juiced the ball is. Also, I'm not sure how you can argue that they're poised for a deep playoff run when they've played one of the easiest schedules in years and would have to beat an Astros team that is better than them in pretty much every way minus the juiced ball home runs.

That being said, I do want to see them beat the Yankees because they're the fucking Yankees.

Re: 2019 MLB Season Discussion Thread

Anyone that was arguing the BALCO Boys should never be voted into the HoF or acknowledged as great players either needs to say the same about this season and potential era or backtrack.

MLB injected the ball with steroids and everyone had a chance to benefit from it. I don't wanna take what Alonso did away because he's a beast but it's not nearly as impressive as Judge or the guys before him. The very state of baseball this season taints every offensive stat.

It's been driving me nuts this doesn't get brought up. Obviously players that used PEDs violated rules. But how is what happened this year with the baseball different? It still deserves an asterisk when being discussed historically.

I despise Bonds and Clemens as individuals but they're no doubt Hall of Famers.

Induct Pete Rose too you cowards.

Twins just keep setting records. After last night they've now lost 14 consecutive playoff games. Ouch.

It'll be interesting to see how Dobnak handles the Yankees today given he's never faced them before. I'm pulling for the Twins to even the series, but I can't say I'm overly optimistic.

If they are really pinching pennies you'd think they would let Martinez walk and use that money to re-sign one of the best players in MLB.

But they have a good enough core without Mookie it might behoove them to move him but idk how much you get for a guy making 30M next year in arbitration.
