    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

    Just a few things.

How does Kenny even qualify for NA MVP? What were his best matches in North America last year? How does he possibly rank above Daniel Bryan, Aleister Black, Seth Rollins, etc.?

What is the parameters of the most overrated award, because I don't think anyone rates Corbin and Jax very highly. I guess just because they got decent pushes? Is it really just a most over pushed award?

Impact Wrestling one of the worst promotions seems harsh and probably not accurate.

Also Raw is obviously best TV show.

    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

    Yeah overrated basically means overpushed/overused.

Impact getting votes for worst show proves no-one was watching the damn show. Easily their best year in about six years.

I might get into this more after work.

iirc zero had a good list of what the awards actually mean because a lot of the names tend to be misleading.

    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

What's the evidence on Omega being best box office draw? Curiosity more than anything.

Cole in worst announcer seems harsh, there's enough in WWE alone worse than him.

Was it this year or last people were up in arms about Being The Elite being allowed for Best Weekly yet the CWC wasn't a few years back? Was the MYC allowed?

    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

There are a few awards that are very suspect, if I'm honest.

North America MVP: AJ Styles, Kenny Omega, Johnny Gargano
How did Omega make this? The only remotely successful thing he did in the US was All In and that wasn't all him. Like EC said, others are far deserving of this spot. I'd even argue Cody for this spot over Kenny Omega tbh.

Women’s MVP: Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, Meiko Satomura
Becky Lynch over Ronda Rousey? Never. Not in match quality or drawing power, imo.

Best Box Office Draw: Conor McGregor, Kenny Omega, LA Park
The rest of the awards can come down to subjectivity, this is not a subjective award. Omega is not a bad decision, but he wasn't the biggest draw in New Japan let along elsewhere. Those US Shows were total flops draw wise and whilst he has his successes in Japan like the G1 Budokan shows, his title reign didn't boost attendances to warrant this either.

Best TV Announcer: Kevin Kelly, Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness
Don't listen to English commentary but when I do they are always talking about star ratings which is a turn off and Mauro? No. Nigel was great though.

Worst Major Wrestling Show: WWE Crown Jewel, WWE Backlash, AAA TripleMania
Worst TV Show: WWE Raw, Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground
Put these two together because it's the same thing. Neither are true and most likely are there out of habit or influenced by the Botchamania video of Vampiro's commentary. TripleMania was far better than a lot of WWE ppvs last year and Impact, from all the people that watch it, is a good show.

Best Booker: Gedo, Triple H, Jun Akiyama
Gedo's crown jewel, the G1, was a booking disaster all last year. One sided blocks. Poorly protecting the champions, the Bullet Club stuff. It was all bad, and that's just the G1. Best booker? Um, okay.

    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

On Kenny for NA MVP, you have to consider ROH’s big crowd for Kenny vs Cody mania weekend I guess. Still a stretch I feel.

    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

Regarding runner ups like Impact getting votes, keep in mind we're not seeing the numbers for these categories.

WORST TELEVISION SHOW 1. WWE RAW 902 2. Impact 30

    WORST PROMOTION OF THE YEAR 1. WWE 612 2. AAA 156 3. Impact 141

With the total amount of potential voters being ~1,000, it's not as if Impact came even close to winning. Especially in the worst TV show, pretty much the only reason Impact earned enough votes to be one of the runners up was because Raw just dominated the votes that even a measly 30 votes made Impact the first runner up.

I do with Meltzer would change the name of some of the awards. Awards like Most Overrated or Most Underrated are far more complicated to understand than they need to be.

That was last year. I still think all of the uproar was stupid. CWC wasn't a weekly show. It was a short term series whereas Being the Elite was a weekly deal.

    Re: WOR Awards 2019!

Lou Thesz/Ric Flair Award (Wrestler of the Year): Kenny Omega, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada
no surprise based on the voters.

Most Outstanding Wrestler: Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Kazuchika Okada
no surprise based on the voters, clearly was Walter.

Tag Team of the Year: Young Bucks, Golden Lovers, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong
no surprise based on the voters

Best on Interviews: Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, Becky Lynch
I feel like there's too big a gap between Bryan's fight for your dreams promo and the heel stuff he cut in December to warrant this. Joe did tremendously well with bad material, I'd of given him this.

Promotion of the Year: NJPW, WWE, ROH
no surprise based on the voters. Always a tricky one to pick because from a purely business POV it's WWE, but creatively they were shit last year. New Japan had their least enjoyable year in a long time. OTT for me here.

Best Weekly Show: NXT, Being the Elite, NJPW on AXS
Should of been 205 Live, but no-one watches it.

Match of the Year: Omega vs. Okada (Dominion), Ibushi vs. Tanahashi (G1 Finals), Almas vs. Gargano (TakeOver: Phoenix)
No surprise based on the voters.

North America MVP: AJ Styles, Kenny Omega, Johnny Gargano
AJ was my top guy in WWE, so I guess so

Japan MVP: Kenny Omega, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada
no surprise based on the voters. I'd of said Ibushi.

Mexico MVP: LA Park, Pentagon Jr, Rush
Can't really comment, but these seem expected winners.

Europe MVP: WALTER, Zack Sabre Jr, Will Ospreay
    Spot on.

Non-Heavyweight MVP: Will Ospreay, Hiromu Takahashi, KUSHIDA
Yeah worldwide I see nothing to disagree with here with Will as winner, but Ali > KUSHIDA.

Women’s MVP: Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, Meiko Satomura
Becky had 6 months of nothing in 2018. Meiko ftw.

Best Box Office Draw: Conor McGregor, Kenny Omega, LA Park
    pfff MMA

Feud of the Year: Ciampa vs. Gargano, Khabib vs. McGregor, LA Park vs. Rush
No love for Becky/Charlotte? Sexist pigs.

Most Improved: Hangman Page, Jay White, Velveteen Dream
Yuck. Hangman was no good in the G1, Jay's been shit and Dream was kind of as good as he was in late 2016 and didn't really rise up the card.

Most Charismatic: Tetsuya Naito, Becky Lynch, Hiroshi Tanahashi
Tanahashi's more charismatic than Naito. Where's the logic in saying Bryan's the best promo and yet he's not in the top 3 of this?

Bryan Danielson Award (Best Technical Wrestler): Zack Sabre Jr, Danie Bryan, Hideki Suzuki
I see no lies, Thatcher might of been nice to been in here.

Bruiser Brody Memorial Award (Best Brawler): Tomohiro Ishii, Chris Jericho, LA Park
LMAO Jericho for 3 matches. Well done big Tom for holding off the popular vote.

Best Flying Wrestler: Will Ospreay, Ricochet, Fenix
I'd of said Fenix of these three.

Most Overrated: Baron Corbin, Nia Jax, Brock Lesnar
Absolutely Corbin, I'm sure I saw a stat that said he wrestled the 3rd most matches of any male in WWE last year, and this was when he was all over our screens as a GM. Useless wrestler.

Most Underrated: Finn Balor, Gran Metalik, Andrade
Jonathan Gresham but WON voters won't know who he is. Gran Metalik wrestled plenty on 205 Live and was one of the only ones that escapes to Raw!

Rookie of the Year: Ronda Rousey, Utami Hayashishita, Brian Pillman Jr
From the little I've seen of Utami she's impressive, but Ronda also turned into (for a brief time) the biggest superstar in WWE and was impressing in her matches. Tanking hard atm though.

Best Non-Wrestler: Paul Heyman, Zelina Vega, Salina de la Renta
THAT'S NOT A PREDICTION, IT'S A SPOILER. stfu Paul, the same material for years.

Best TV Announcer: Kevin Kelly, Mauro Ranallo, Nigel McGuinness
I do like Kelly on NJPW so I don't mind this.

Worst TV Announcer: Jonathan Coachman, Michael Cole, Renee Young
    Coach and Renee are terrible.

Best Major Wrestling Show: NJPW Dominion, NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12, NXT TakeOver New Orleans
There's no way Dominion was better than WK, at best you can say there's 3 good matches. Takeover NOLA was fucking ridiculous, everything was great.

Worst Major Wrestling Show: WWE Crown Jewel, WWE Backlash, AAA TripleMania
    slam dunk.

Best Wrestling Maneuver: One Winged Angel (Omega), Rainmaker (Okada), Stormbreaker (Ospreayr)
Eh pointless award but I did enjoy the stormbreaker being added to Will's matches.

Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic: WWE Saudi Arabia relationship, USADA’s handling of Jon Jones’ case, UFC using McGregor crime footage in promo
    Yeah gotta be the Saudis

Worst TV Show: WWE Raw, Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground
Raw sucked hard after mania, but LU S4 E1 was so bad I didn't return for E2.

Worst Match of the Year: DX vs. Brothers of Destruction (Crown Jewel), Lesnar vs. Reigns (WrestleMania), Triple H vs. Undertaker (super Show-Down)
    Absolutely.

Worst Feud of the Year: Bayley vs. Banks, Lashley vs. Zayn, Ambrose vs. Rollins
    All dreadful.

Worst Promotion of the Year: WWE, AAA, Impact Wrestling
Can't agree, they made so much money, they raised the profile of Womens wrestling again, and their different brands like NXT and 205 Live produced some great shit. Progress Wrestling on the other hand were pretty naff, do fuck all with the women and then sold out to WWE.

Best Booker: Gedo, Triple H, Jun Akiyama
LMAO. Terrible G1 apart from the ending, mess up Ishimori's debut, hurt Naito's popularity, make Super Jr Tag league pointless, make World tag league pointless, bend over for the Elite who then leave to make a rival company. but no no great matches = best booker. Ironically enough I think Gabe did well with the hand he was given, compare him to the other companies that sold out to triple H and Evolve look pretty good. Think Callis did really well with Impact too to make them watchable last year.

Promoter of the Year: Takaaki Kidani, Triple H, Cody & Young Bucks
I'd say the OTT lads, but Cody and Young Bucks did really well with All In.

Best Gimmick: Velveteen Dream, Becky Lynch, Daniel Bryan
Heel bryan even though it was like 5 weeks!

Worst Gimmick: Constable Corbin, Drake Maverick pissing, Lucha House Party
    Pissing Drake for sure.

Best Book: Eggshells, Death of the Territories, Nitro
    N/A.

Best Documentary: Andre the Giant HBO Documentary, Bipolar Rock and Rolla, WWE 24 - Hardy Boyz
    The Andre doc was amazing.

When I read this I started to chuckle, then I paused and thought wait you are you serious? Impact the past year has been really entertaining and plenty of occasions they had the best Wrestling during a week loaded with WWE Content in my opinion. At least they got Utami in there, she has plenty of gold with her now and the future is really bright with her when she does break away from Queen's Quest.

Because she’s just not good at commentary. She and Coach before her are parts of the reasons why I don’t watch Raw much anymore. She’s just full of cliches and often blows her load for insignificant moments.

The frustrating thing about Renee is she is so good as a backstage announcer/host sort of role but they have put her in a role she is no good at.

I also think it's so easy to see the move as just putting a female voice on the commentary table to get good #womensrevolution publicity. Out of nowhere she got that gig just after Evolution was announced.

I don’t think she’s so bad, there’s definitely been worse. To be fair though, she herself admitted awhile back that she thought she was never any good at it during her nXt commentary days.
