Dick “The Destroyer” Beyer has passed away

I’m not in anyway familiar with his work but I am aware of who he was, regardless it’s sad when the world loses someone. I did like his interview on Jericho’s podcast awhile back, very interesting stuff.

    RIP to him.

Man, ANOTHER legend already? Fuck. This one hurts, Destroyer was a guy who helped me and tonnes of other retrospectively get into the old school 70s NWA style. A true master of his time and a legend in every way. The real shame is that the guy probably had countless great matches that were either never committed to tape or been simply lost over time.

That sucks, but 88 is a hell of a good run (unfortunately) for a pro wrestler. As Steve said, definitely a guy that helped get me into the old school style of wrestling and a true master. RIP.

He's a name I've often heard about when reading up on the early days of puroresu and how respected he was as an influence, but I have to admit I kinda assumed he had already died considering the years he was active. Never seen a match of his but I'll try to find some time this weekend to watch some of the videos that Steve posted in the VIP section.

Damn. He was one of the first people I watched when we had the All Japan Archive and he blew me away how good he was. Big influence and star of his time. R.I.P.

Re: Dick “The Destroyer” Beyer has passed away

I saw him in Toronto in the early 80's against Andre The Giant
He must have already been in his mid 50's at this point

I also saw him at a very small indy show just outside of Toronto (not wrestling) and it was sad to see because it literally took him several minutes to get in the ring to make his speech

RIP To The Super Intelligent Destroyer
