    Tyler Bate

    b i g s t r o n g b o i

I know I'm biased towards him because he's one of the only famous people to come from Dudley, but I honestly believe Tyler's been a top 10 wrestler in the world the past two years which is damn impressive given he's still a baby at 21. There's the obvious famous matches with Pete Dunne and Undisputed Era which show his abilities as both a singles and tag guy, but then there's stuff on the indies that's just as impressive like his Progress matches this year against Zack Sabre Jr and Chris Hero. He has a tonne of stuff in the wXw archives I need to dig up from 2015-16.

My biggest mark against him is the more I see of Mustache Mountain on the indies, the less I'm impressed, but that might not be a big problem anymore with the exclusive WWE deal and I think another good year will be enough to get him on my list.

Based on his WWE work he's a strong candidate for the list. I'm with you about the MM stuff on the Indy scene though, but given how much of the better talent are being taken elsewhere, sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth there, especially with tag team stuff.

I sort of get what you mean about Moustache Mountain, Ed.

His 2017 and 2018 have a lot of power to them so he’s a pretty good candidate to be considered.

Like Dunne, a strong 2019 would make him a fine contender.

Every time I see this kid, I am stunned by how good he is. He is so much fun to watch and has boat loads of charisma. Another excellent performance last night and he's definitely one of the guys I can see myself being very high on.

    Re: Tyler Bate

He ended up finishing #4 for me in the entire world, back to back years in my top ten. I don't think there's many in the world as great as him both in singles or tag, most guys are usually stronger in one style of match (or only get opportunities in one role).

His charisma is weird because in-ring he's great and stand out in a show full of other British wrestlers, and on twitter he's got a bit of swagger about him, but put the microphone in front of him to cut a promo and he's painfully dull; something he needs to work on going forward in his WWE career.

Definitely one of the most exciting young wrestlers going. Only thing I thought was off last night was him hitting a dive on Drake when he knew he'd have to come in to a break up a pin seconds later, felt like Drake had to basically no sell it to make it work. Otherwise he's a young phenom.

    Re: Tyler Bate

That was probably one of the best hot tags I can remember last night. Not the actual buildup to the tag itself, but the moment he was in until he tagged back out, there were like two or three incredible spots, the excitement never died and he was a superstar to the English crowd.

    Re: Tyler Bate

Well here's a fun fact for you - The WWE United Kingdom Championship is to this day the only real WWE belt I've ever held. I've held replicas - but never one of an actual champion. Tyler Bate gave me that opportunity on a Homecoming to Dudley like two weeks after winning the Championship - at a 'Meet and Greet' for a Dudley promotion. I therefore too am a little bias towards Bate. Getting the 126 Bus from Birmingham to Dudley - I was super stoked to meet him and ever since I did, I became engrossed with what he does.

While I do not think he is the stand out UK wrestler, the only match that I remember clearly from the WWE UK scene, is Bate vs. Dunne - the amazing Match of the Year candidate, with a few more of those up his sleeves, on a Top 50 - he could possibly just break into the Top 15.

See his appearance on Good Morning Britain the other day with the rest of BSS? Sums up your point entirely.

Really weird how wrestling can be treated seriously on mainstream UK TV now...

WALTER vs Bate, PROGRESS Hello Wembley

Man, it is so, so refreshing to see a long, epic match and have it actually feel perfectly paced and laid out. 90% of wrestlers trying to have 6 star main events really need to take notes. Early sections reminded me of the great lengthy title matches of the territory era, it was methodical, focused on struggling for control, and built and teased big spots for later in the match. WALTER carried a bunch of dudes to great matches last year, but this feels like it's at the top of the pack with the Allin match. Bate not only has the impressive physical tools and charisma, but clearly really "gets" the fundamentals of wrestling and how to be a really compelling babyface. It is rare I come away from a match this long and not only feel not burnt out, but feel like they could have even gone longer - they didn't do a big WALTER chop sequence or a big suplex exchange or whatever, so there was stuff left on the table for a rematch.

I'm not sure it I'd have Bate as a Top 20 guy - feel quite high - but he is one of the most exciting young wrestlers in the world and it'll be great to see him get better as his experience grows.

What are the other top PROGRESS matches he'd had?

    Re: Tyler Bate

Imagery wise I think they tried to make that match feel like their Hogan-Andre. I really liked it, best match on that show by a country distance and quite different to the usual Walter indie match.

I'd probably say ZSJ, Haskins and Hero were his other three good singles matches of 2018. On the whole though, Progress Bate isn't good Bate. He's someone who I think is better in NXT.

    Re: Tyler Bate

Oh yeah, clearly they were going for Hogan vs Andre and this was obviously a way better match.

That is a shame to hear, I was was half expecting a bunch of PROGRESS gems, but if they aren't there then I can't see him as a Top 20 guy. He's definitely better than Pete Dunne, though.

    Re: Tyler Bate

Check out Super Strong Style 2017 for his matches with Riddle and Travis Banks too. I prefer the Riddle match personally, but Banks is good too and even got the full 5 stars from Jim. Also has ace tags with Trent vs. WALTER and Axel, and another against the South Pacific Power Trip in 2017.

PROGRESS Tyler was stuck in tag matches more often than not. Moustache Mountain is a fun team, but it's sort of a shame Tyler is doing that rather than more singles stuff. Moment that team splits the sky's the limit for him.

    Re: Tyler Bate

Been watching a fair bit of PROGRESS this weekend and filling in some blanks on periods I have no knowledge of. First, I had no idea BSS were heels at one point. Secondly, I didn't enjoy them as heels at all. Bate in particularly looked like a sad puppy when getting booed and didn't seem to enjoy it. I checked out the 2017 SSST and thought it was whatever, and personally I thought that finals against Banks was god-awful. I feel confident that, like Dunne, WWE Bate is probably the Best Bate. He's still a lock to make my list but not sure he goes Top 25.

WWE Bate is very much his best stuff. He was a good tag wrestler in Progress but never stood out like he did in WWE, although his match with Zack Sabre Jr last year is one of his better matches.

Yeah, the Zack match was very good. Hopefully to see more matches like that but I don't think they are there.
