    Shuji Ishikawa

I am still playing catch up on Big Japan, but Twin Towers were one of the most exciting acts in recent years. Great bruiser monster heel and watching him and Sato crush dudes never got old. He understood his role well and is a really awesome, stiff worker who knows how to deliver a compelling beating.

Big singles matches with other BJ heavies where he was working not only stiff, but really smart matches (think there was one built around him working over Sekimoto's skull and head), make him stand out. At this point he looks like he's got a strong chance of being my Japan no. 1.

Will most likely be the one name I undervalue. I love him whenever I see him, I just don't end up seeing him all that often because I'm not a regular All Japan viewer and I'm certainly not a DDT Universe subscriber or whatever the hell they call it. He's someone I need to encourage myself to seek out the recommended matches.

Highly consistent wrestler, like Ishii but bigger & more violent. Awesome in BJW, AJPW, & DDT, awesome against small guys, awesome against big guys, awesome in multiple tag teams w/Sato & Suwama. Strong #1 case at face value, but will people watch enough of him for him to get traction?

What are some of this guy's better matches? I will definitely look into him to see if he's someone I need to give consideration to.

Yeah so I watched the 2015 match with Sekimoto last night and it fucking ruled. Definitely going to take a dive into these matches, Zero.

The one bad thing, I feel, about all of this is that given that I don't closely follow Puro, I'm only going to see this guy's highlights. Compared to American guys who I follow week to week and see their lows, it's going to be hard to judge where I should place him. I guess I have about a year or so to catch up at least.

please can we NOT post links to rutube openly! the last thing we want is that account to get rumbled.

I would start with his tags against Sekimoto/Okabayashi. There is a 30 minute broadway in particular that was a really strong MOTYC and a glorious buffet of violence.

I would also recommend his recent DDT stuff but I've looked, not a lot of it is available out of DDT Universe. If you can fine it, look at his matches against Mike Bailey, Yukio Sakaguchi and Kazusada Higuchi in the first D-Ou of 2018.

That Ed guy has a whole media section set up behind a paywall. Let’s share the videos in there.

Just remembered 2 years ago when we had the ROH google drive and people stupidly shared it on twitter and a bunch of accounts were just giffing ROH shows. Lasted only a few days before it was shut down.

    Ishikawa vs Okabayashi, Champions Carnival

This wasn't quite as brutal as their BJW matches but still pretty good thanks to really solid heavyweight wrestling and some strategy from Ishikawa. First half was especially strong with Ishikawa targetting Ok's mid-section and I thought they did a really good job selling exhaustion and struggling to hit moves.... until the final five minutes or so when they kind of went off the deep end and blew it all off. I could have done without the back and forth such as Ok eating a nasty piledriver on the apron then being back on the attack a few minutes later. Still, thought this was one of the better All Japan matches I've seen in forever.

    Shuji Ishikawa

It's a really good match, but Vs ZEUS is probably the peak of Ishikawa for me in this year's CC.

Just watched this and thought it kicked ass. I would go far enough to call it the best Japan match I've seen this year and better than any of the Kento Miyahara matches. THAT is what heavyweight wrestling should look like, two big tough dudes throwing down, tossing each other around and beating the tar out of each other. Have to say Zeus has really improved tonnes as well.

I will 100% be the high voter on Ishikawa, I can see him being a Top 3 Japan guy for me.
