    Alliance of American Football Thread

    https://aaf.com/

This is a new league starting up this February. I'm pretty interested in it, team selection might be better than what the XFL did honestly. Only one of the cities already has an NFL Team(Atlanta) they do have an Arizona team, but not sure how close it is to where the Cards play?

Some of the rules I did find about it.

Teams will have 50 players on each roster, with some selected by a territorial draft. The territory assigned to a team consists of at least five colleges plus designated professional teams, one Canadian Football League, and four NFL teams, for those from Big Ten and the Big 12 conferences. Only one quarterback can be taken from their region. A quarterbacks-only "Protect or Pick" draft was conducted in November 2018 in which teams may retain their allocated quarterback or select an unprotected quarterback from another team

Telecasts will feature no television timeouts and 60 percent fewer commercials, with the league aiming for an approximate real-time game length of 150 minutes, down from just over 180 in the NFL

All teams must attempt two-point conversions after each touchdown; there will be no extra point kicks

There will be no kickoffs; halves, odd overtime periods and after scores will begin on each team's own 25-yard line, the same as touchbacks in the NFL and NCAA. In lieu of an onside kick, a team can keep possession of the ball by attempting a scrimmage play from their own 35-yard line and gaining at least 10 yards.(not sure how I feel about this one to be honest...)

The play clock will run only 30 seconds, 10 seconds shorter than in the NFL

Two coach's challenges per team are the only replays; no challenges in last two minutes of either half nor any overtime period, as they are automatic

Outside organizations will handle head-safety protocols.

No games can end in ties, unlike the NFL

Playoffs will consist of four teams, the top two teams from each conference.

Passing rules are the same as in the NCAA and CFL, in which catches are made with one foot inbounds, unlike the NFL, where they must have both feet inbounds.

So, let's hope for the best I guess!

Re: Alliance of American Football Thread

I think it's a pretty decent looking league so far and may be worth checking out. Season starts right after the NFL ends in early 2019 so we'll have an immediate stimpack of emergency football to get us through the dark post-Super Bowl days.

Every team also has several NFL and CFL affiliates so it's easy to find out who to cheer for just based on who your team is connected to.

Re: Alliance of American Football Thread

I actually like the idea of getting the ball at the 35 yard line instead of attempting an onside kick
It will make for interesting finishes
With the new onside kick rules in the NFL this year, I believe only 4 onside kicks have been successful

From what I have read only the first weekend of games and the championship game will air on CBS
The other weeks will air on the CBS Sports Network
Living in Canada, I have no idea how big of a reach CBS Sports Network Has, But if it only has a limited reach
They are doomed from the start
Games are also available on their App, but how many people are going to go out of their way to watch a game on an App

So, when this starts I better be able to make the Atlanta Legends one of my teams and have a nice little banner for them.

Re: Alliance of American Football Thread

If you look at some of the people signed to those teams, they already have some former NFL talent and decent players.

    Already better than the XFL.
    Everything will surely be alright.

Is this the thing that Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward were apart of?

With over 70 conferences that play college football, there will always be plenty of players. The problem will be anyone who shines won't be there long.

    The next Adam Theilen.

I think I'll be cheering for San Antonio since they're closest to Austin but I really just hope the games are good. I'm flipping between the Leafs/Habs and San Antonio/San Diego games so we'll see how this goes.

Ironically, the two teams I was kinda torn between are San Diego and San Antonio. Who are facing off against eachother.

I guess I'll watch the game and see how it goes. Go from there.

Nah, I wasn't exactly going to base it off who wins. I'd be more interested in seeing how the coaching goes, and play style.
