    Re: Music Stars

    Not in any order.

    Hank Williams
    Frank Sinatra
    Bob Dylan
    Muddy Waters
    Elvis
    Robert Johnson
    Bob Marley
    Jimmie Rodgers
    Merle Haggard
    BB King

    Bessie Smith
    Billie Holliday
    Janis Joplin
    Ella Fitzgerald
    Bonnie Raitt
    Lena Horne
    Allison Krauss
    Memphis Minnie
    Nina Simone
    Patsy Cline

When it come to bands we really can't ignore the Big bands, Jazz bands, Country swing. Then there's those old vocal groups from the 50's/60's. A lot of the lead singers from those vocal groups could have been big stars on their own.

    Re: Music Stars

Silly me, I thought this was a serious thread, my bad.

Pro wrestlers not mentioned that should be. All with serious musical talents.

Grizzley Smith (father of Jake "Snake" Roberts) played fiddle in a bluegrass band.

Sweetdaddy Siki could lay down some soul, funk and rap.

Cowboy Dick Hutton would sit in with Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys when they played Bakersfield, he was a mean steel guitar player.

Iron Mike DiBiase (yep, dad) Started out playing bass in the Prince Albert Hunt Band out of Houston. After Hunt was gunned down by a jealous husband, he got into rasslin'.

Skaska Pez Whatley recorded some old blues covers as Blind Willie Jones.

I was honestly only half joking when I mentioned Terry Funk. Great Texan is a hell of an album and a great curio piece for the discerning collector.

I was totally joking about all that with the exception of Sweetdaddy Siki.

    So Terry Funk, ok.

    Re: Music Stars

Honestly this is a question I would produce significantly different list's for, depending on whether or not we considered greatest to mean their record, influence, and impact, rather than speaking of their vocal and musical ability/craft itself. Those two things do not necessarily go hand in hand, and lead to the creation of significantly different lists.

As you made a point to mention 'greatest', I'll go with a list of in my opinion the greatest, though it changes regularly depending on what I'm listening to.

    In no particular order

    1. Elvis
    2. Jimi Hendrix
    3. Freddy Mercury
    4. Prince
    5. BB King
    6. Ray Charles
    7. David Bowie
    8. Johnny Cash
    9. Joe Cocker
    10. Jim Morrison

    Honourable mentions go to

    11. Willie Nelson
    12. Frank Sinatra
    13. Sam Moore
    14. Eric Clapton
    15. Bob Dylan
    16. Carlos Santana

    1. Ella Fitzgerald
    2. Billie Holliday
    3. Aretha Franklyn
    4. Nina Simone
    5. Judy Garland
    6. Stevie Nicks
    7. Karen Carpenter
    8. Lena Horne
    8. Whitney Houston
    9. Delores O'Riordan
    10. Patti Smith

    Honourable mention
    11. Annie Lennox
    12. Peggy Lee
    13. Janis Joplin
    14. Shirley Bassey
    15. Julie Andrews
