Re: WC's Fave Five Sports Movies~!

Alright, it's time for the 20 pointers...

    14T. Beerfest - 20 Points (Booty #4)

14T. The Last Boy Scout - 20 Points (Mitch #4)

14T. The Miracle of Bern - 20 Points (Lucha Bear #4)

    14T. Surf's Up - 20 Points (Evil Jon #4)

    14T. Tin Cup - 20 Points (TGO #4)

    14T. The Waterboy - 20 Points (The EC #4)

I didn't consider it for my list but Beerfest is pretty funny from what I remember. Last Boy Scout is a solid flick although I have a hard time calling it a sports movie even though Wayans is holding a football on the poster. I thought Tin Cup was alright while I'm not a fan of The Waterboy at all. Haven't seen the other two up there but Miracle of Bern seems interesting enough for me to add to the list.

Next up, a massive tie for 13th place sees us looking at 11 movies including the only one about wrestling to make the list~!

Was wondering whether Beer Fest counted. Obviously it should. But I left it off in the end, I think I was going to consider it a while longer and totally forgot about it. Surf's Up is also pretty good though also quite forgettable to me.

Re: WC's Fave Five Sports Movies~!

    Here we go again folks...

    13T. Ali - 30 Points (Evil Jon #3)

    13T. Caddyshack - 30 Points (Booty #3)

    13T. Foxcatcher - 30 Points (OMB #3)

13T. Friday Night Lights - 30 Points (Easy Joe #3)

    13T. Hoop Dreams - 30 Points (Zero #3)

    13T. Jerry Maguire - 30 Points (Mitch #3)

    13T. The Natural - 30 Points (Wang Chung #3)

    13T. One Crazy Summer - 30 Points (NovaRoad #3)

13T. The Pride of the Yankees - 30 Points (TCON #3)

    13T. The Replacements - 30 Points (Wang Chung #4, Silk #5)

    13T. White Men Can't Jump - 30 Points (The EC #3)

Phew, there's a lot to cover so let me quickly start by saying that I love Caddyshack but I just couldn't find a place for it on my list. I regretted that once I compiled all the votes and saw that it only got love from Booty but at least it made the list all the same so props to him for that. I also really enjoyed Hoop Dreams and made it a late cut. Thankfully Zero swooped in at the last minute and got it onto the list and he's a great person for doing so. Same goes for Wang and his nomination of The Natural, a great baseball movie with a great Redford performance. TCON also gets a shout out for his baseball movie choice here, as The Pride of the Yankees is an all-time classic. Finally, I'd like to thank OMB for not only picking Foxcatcher but for also being the only person to include a wrestling movie. Foxcatcher is a great character study and well worth checking out.

I didn't really love any of the other movies up there but they're all good enough to merit inclusion here. I'd mention how much I dislike Jerry Maguire but given the star we probably already know my feelings towards it.

Next up, another big update as we look at the final 10 movies that finished outside of the top ten. We've got some baseball, some hockey and some hoops, along with a few other surprises~!

Pretty dang low for Caddyshack, bit surprised by that. Maybe it's before everyone's time. Was definitely on my shortlist, along with Jerry Maguire, but I had to give a spot to The Replacements which is one of my guilty pleasure movies. It's not a great flick but I love a goofy football underdog story and Keanu makes anything a little more watchable.

Oh and FNL was okay but the tv show was wayyyy better.

Aye, Foxcatcher is good stuff, needs a rewatch.

FNL is fine but was completely eclipsed by the TV show later on.

So what element does One Crazy Summer have? I love the movie and all but sports does not cross my mind. I am guessing boat racing.

The Natural is a favorite baseball movie for me along with another I feel will be pretty high up on this list which is why I didnt Include it.

Considered quite a few of those.

Glad Jon gave Ali a shout. Love me some Michael Mann.

Foxcatcher was fine but I never got the hype for Carell's performance. He sounded like he always does just with a weird cadence and some makeup. I read that Oldman turned it down because of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and I can't help but wonder if I'd have dug it more with an Oldman in the role.

    It's true lol

It also has a little bit of basketball.

I don't necessarily think of it as an iconic sports film, but for a mid '80s rom-com to heavily feature a sport that wasn't baseball and in a way that made the sport look more than boring is deserving of me watching it often as young kid and showing it some love on this list.

Re: WC's Fave Five Sports Movies~!

Good morning folks, here's the last batch before the top ten begins...

12T. The Battered Bastards of Baseball - 40 Points (Fuji Vice #2)

    12T. The Boxer - 40 Points (Creeping Death #2)

    12T. D2: The Mighty Ducks - 40 Points (HoHo #2)

    12T. Like Mike - 40 Points (Evil Jon #2)

11T. The Big Lebowski - 50 Points (Creeping Death #1)

    11T. Enter the Dragon - 50 Points (Zero #1)

    11T. Field of Dreams - 50 Points (TGO #3, Easy Joe #4)

    11T. The Flying Scotsman - 50 Points (NovaRoad #1)

    11T. The Mighty Ducks - 50 Points (TGO #2, Postman Dave #5)

    11T. Varsity Blues - 50 Points (Vayne #2, OMB #5)

I included The Battered Bastards of Baseball not only because I love it (and because Kurt Russell is in it) but also because I really wanted to bring attention to a movie I think a lot of people have probably never heard of. If you've got Netflix and like underdog baseball stories, you should definitely check it out because it's great. Plus, Kurt Russell~! The Big Lebowski, The Boxer and Enter the Dragon are all great shouts even though none made my short list and I've always had a soft spot for Field of Dreams so it's great to see it here. I'm kind of surprised it only got two lower place votes though, I figured it was a possible Fave Five candidate when we started this list. Never seen The Flying Scotsman, Like Mike or Varsity Blues so I can't comment on those and I was just a tad too old to get into The Mighty Ducks but I know how much people love those movies so I'm not surprised to see them make the cut here.

Next up, the top ten begins with a couple of memorable quotes, a bunch of balls and one of the finest examples of a feel good movie ever~!

Varsity Blues came very close to being my #1, and honestly...I would say it's definitely probably my favorite on my top 5, overall.

One of my all time favorite movies, really. Just a great teen movie and fun sports film. And a bit weird to watch now that so many of the cast are gone (And one completely vanished, in Joe Pichler).

Might Ducks, one of my favorites. Would have had them on the list if I had room, but I knew they'd get on either way.

Glad The Boxer got some love. Had considered it myself, but left it off in the end. Surprised the likes of Field of Dreams and Jerry Maguire didn’t finish higher. Not that I’m a big fan of either film (they’re okay) just assumed they’d have gotten more votes than they did.

    It's top ten time~!

    10T. Cool Runnings - 60 Points (Postman Dave #2, OMB #4)

    10T. Happy Gilmore - 60 Points (Gipper #3, Jimmy King #4, Booty #5)

    10T. A League of Their Own - 60 Points (Jimmy King #2, NovaRoad #4)

    10T. Slap Shot - 60 Points (Lucha Bear #2, Mitch #5, TCON #5)

9T. Any Given Sunday - 70 Points (Wolf Beast #2, TCON #4, Creeping Death #5)

    9T. Dodgeball - 70 Points (Silk #3, Gipper #4, Wolf Beast #4)

    9T. Radio - 70 Points (The EC #2, Vayne #3)

Cool Runnings was the feel good movie I mentioned in the last update and it was close to making my list because, well because it's one hell of a great feel good movie! I'm really happy to see it crack the top ten. Any Given Sunday was another on my short list just for Pacino's crazy overacting but I had to cut it so, again, it's great to see it show up here. Slap Shot is another great one that's well worth checking out if you haven't seen it before. Dodgeball is pretty fun, as are Happy Gilmore and A League of Their Own. I honestly don't remember anything about Radio but I'm sure it's solid.

Next up, 8 more movies before the Fave Five and we'll see some boxing, some basketball and a couple of great underdog tales~!

Shit I totally Biffed on Dodgeball...that movie was my go to watch when I had women over so many times. Usually ended with me getting some so I really should have voted for it. Gilmore is great as well. I Find Lebowski to be so damn overrated I really don’t care for it at all.

    Gilmore is great, classic Sandler.

Glad to see Radio get some love.

All I can ever think of when I hear Cool Runnings is from Family Guy.... Okay. I'm thinking of a movie. Is it an action movie? No. Is it a musical? No. Is it a good movie? It has its moments. Cool Runnings. Right!
