WC's Fave Five Bands formed in the 70s

Yes. I think we should start doing those lovely WC's Fave Five lists here in the Music Room as well and after a short discussion in the shoutbox, I thought we could start with this topic. Your favorite Bands. We'll search for the community's most beloved Bands that were established between January 1st, 1970 and December 31st, 1979.

Most of you know how these threads work, but for the people who don't: If you wanna join the fun, just send me a PM with your favorite five bands formed in the 70s, ranked with a 5th place to the 1st place. (The 5th placed band gets 10 points, the 4th placed 20 and so on...)

Deadline will be Thursday, October 18th at 2pm EST

An overview of bands who meet the criteria can be found on Wikipedia: (segmented into lists for each single year)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Musical_groups_established_in_the_1970s

But you can name every band that was formed in the 70s...even if they can't be found in those lists.

Have fun with the struggle and I hope many people will participate in this.

I will also be submitting a list. Hopefully I can scrape up good choices, as I feel most of my favorite 70s bands were formed in the 60s.

I wasn't sure about starting with the 60s or 70s. If the interest is there the 60s will get their list too, of course.

Pretty much any rock band I identify as being great in the 1970s all seemed to have formed in the late 60s

Maybe it would of been more representative to say ‘release date of first album’ rather than year formed.

It's not just rock bands though. Any music ensemble is fine.

Also...when I go through those Wikipedia lists I linked in the OP, I found plenty of great and well-known Bands/Groups in the first few years alone. So there is a good amount to work with.

Thank you, for your thoughts, Ed.

Re: WC's Fave Five Bands formed in the 70s

I have slot number 1 pretty much set in stone, but I'll be damned if I can recall any other bands that formed in the 70's (or 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, etc) off the top of my head. Thank goodness for those Wiki lists.

    Spoiler:

    I'm not good at signatures.

I’ll get a list going. Already kind of have an idea of who would be on it.

Edit: I just looked at the wikis. This is going to be rough.

    Mine has been sent.

Three bands I regret leaving off: Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, and Black Flag. Three really awesome pioneering bands but their work was more significant in the eighties and during the Ronald Reagan era.

I definitely considered the Dead Kennedys. Ultimately I didn't include any punk bands, I'm just not familiar enough to add them. But I did debate for a while to add Misfits, ultimately I just left them off in favor of bands I know more about.

Re: WC's Fave Five Bands formed in the 70s

Just about to send mine in. I just went for my five favourite bands that were formed in the decade without even looking at the list. Felt really bad leaving off Blondie, Suicide and New York Dolls so I figured I'd mention them here since I doubt they'll get any love.

Re: WC's Fave Five Bands formed in the 70s

I wanna thank all participants for sending in lists ! I received 10 lists (and my own making it 11 in total) with 36 different Bands named. Now let's get the show rolling with the five 10-Pointers !

    32.(tied) - Styx - 10 Points (Evil Jon #5)

    Spoiler:

    32.(tied) - Men at Work - 10 Points (Smooth Jazz Wolf #5)

    Spoiler:

    32.(tied) - The Undertones - 10 Points (Wolf Beast #5)

    Spoiler:

    32.(tied) - Exodus - 10 Points (Creeping Death #5)

    Spoiler:

    32.(tied) - The Blues Brothers - 10 Points (Mikk #5)

    Spoiler:

And what a batch it is... Love to see Men at Work and Styx getting some love. I had to leave both off...still a big Colin Hay fan today. Also nice to see Exodus being on here. The Blues Brothers were a very late cut for me.

Next update will be huge, because we will double the amount of bands, when we get around to the 20-Pointers.

Men at Work and Exodus are sold shouts for sure. Pleasantly surprised that someone else must have voted for my number 5.
