Fright Fest TEN: Jim Terrifies in Space (not really in space)

October 1st, 2008. On a little site known as Wrestling Society, I set out to create my most successful thread of all time. A post dedicated to horror movies where I'd review one horror movie a day, every day, for the entire month culminating in everyone's applause and respect. That thread, titled "Fright Fest 2008" was...kinda a massive failure. By the end of the month, I had only been able to post fourteen movie reviews and when I attempted to keep it going in November, my PC motherboard crashed on me, killing not only the computer and my computer access, but also the thread in the process. After skipping over 2009, I decided to give it Fright Fest one last attempt on Wrestling Clique in 2010. Known as "Fright Fest 2" (Why it wasn't Fright Fest 2010, I haven't a clue), the thread succeeded far greater than the original attempt at Fright Fest and with that, Wrestling Clique had a new October tradition - Jim writing poorly written horror movie reviews where the created gifs are the real attraction to the show.

Now, ten years after the fact, Fright Fest is set to not only turn ten, but to also feature the tenth edition of Fright Fest (It's the WWE wet dream - a 10th edition is also the 10th anniversary). As always, starting on October 1, there will be one new horror review a day, every day, until the month is finished and I go back to being a grumpy fuck. Similarly in past years, I'm all ears for any requests that the members of WC would like to see reviewed with a stress on the fact that the earlier you get your request in, the greater the odds that I will be covering it. If I'm only getting the request on October 27th, chances are I'm not going to have time to watch it. In past years, such classic films as Clowntergeist, Gingerdead Man, and Hard to Die were all reviews created from requests from the WC member base.

Below are links to the previous incarnations of Fright Fest, including the infamous failed 2008 edition, and individual links to every movie review. Give the spoiler a quick look if you wish to request a movie to first see if it's been covered already.

Is there anything else I typically say in these lame opening posts? It's going to be a spoooooky October with Fright Fest TEN~! Yep, that's enough lameness. Here are the links:

    Movies for consideration;

    Get Out

The Devils Rejects (admittedly, only randomly requesting this because I have it on DVD, but dont think I've ever actually watched it)

Considering this is now the third straight year that you've requested it, I promise you that it will be covered this year.

Will read as always even though I'm not a big horror fan

Still, I can make some family friendly suggestions at least!

    - Goosebumps (2016 movie)
    - Paranorman
    - Coraline

I do need a family friendly horror for day #30. At this moment, I think I'm leaning towards 2006's Monster House, but re-watching Paranorman would be fun.

I do have regular ratings for Goosebumps (6.5/10) and Coraline (8/10) though.

Actually watched Monster House last month for the first time since I saw it in the cinema all those years ago. Wouldn't be against that either.

I wouldn't say it's a lock, but Terrifier is pretty close to being one.

Just to be a teasing asshole, one of those is one I've been thinking about for a few months to cover this year.
    ---

At this moment, the only movies that I would say are a lock are Cockney's Vs Zombies and 2018's Halloween.

Aside from the recommendations of Hereditary and Brain Dead from the other day, taking a stab (ha) at Hammer's 1971 film Hands of the Ripper would be cool. It's on Amazon Prime and I just watched it the other day so it'll be relatively fresh in my memory if you decide to cover it. Still looking for another Italian one for you but I believe you didn't get to Torso last year so that's always worth a watch.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on Terrifier as well. I didn't go gaga over it but Art is a great character nonetheless.

Even though I was mostly pleased with my 2017 selections, I feel like I kinda dropped the ball when it came to foreign movies. Thanks partially due to Tales from the Crypt, I did a handful of Brit movies, but outside of US and UK, I barely did anything. One Italian film (Compared to three in 2016) and zero Japanese/Norwegian movies (Compared to one Japanese and two Norwegian in 2016). I'll make an effort to change that this time around especially for Italy.

Now there's a relic from the past. The last time I posted a PWG review, Fright Fest 6 hadn't even happened yet.
