I'l wait until the window closes to make a more secure prediction but the bookies probably have the top 5 right. Arsenal under Emery may surprise a few but can't see them breaking the top 5 this season. Wolves being marked up so much is a bit scary. I know they got some decent players but they didn't have it all their own way in the Championship last season so will struggle more than people expect in my eyes.

Will be very interesting to see how Arsenal do this season. I can see them still struggling to transition from Wenger to Emery but not too much.

Wolves and Fulham are the ones I'm most interested to watch out of the promoted teams.

Re: Premier League 2018/19 Discussion Thread

Poor Burnley, coming 7th last year and being seen as 4 times less likely to win the league than promoted Wolves...

Interesting season ahead I think. I can't see anyone overthrowing Man City unless something major happens in the next couple of weeks, but with Chelsea's new manager bounce and Liverpool's investment it should at least be a closer thing this year. I think Arsenal may be more competitive but still a long way off, and wouldn't be surprised to see the wheels fall off for Jose at United. His schtick is wearing thin and, honestly, I think United deserve better than his BS.

As a Spurs fan, this is an interesting year for us. Couple of games in one stadium, then moving to another. We handled the alien home games well last year, but definitely suffered a little for it and presume we will again this time. I'm totally in support of our sensible business model, but am worried at us being left behind. I'd take 4th and losing no key players going in to next season quite happily.

Also with more than a passing interest in Liverpool, it feels like make or break this year. On paper the team is there, the manager is great, and the football should stay as fun as it was. I'd take a semi-decent title challenge whilst staying entertaining, but suspect anything short of a title win will make some people get a bit antsy at Klopp. It seems mad to me, but there's a quiet minority at Anfield that aren't sold on him already, and that might grow after this kind of spending if we don't win something relatively major.

As much as it pains me to say, I think West Ham have invested well, I think Palace should stay well clear of danger, and I worry for Newcastle if Rafa finally gets sick of Ashley's shit.

All makes for an intriguing season though...

    Premier League Prediction

    1. Manchester City
    2. Liverpool
    3. Chelsea
    4. Arsenal
    5. Manchester United
    6. Spurs
    7. Everton

    10. Leicester
    11. Fulham
    12. Southampton
    13. Crystal Palace
    14. Burnley
    15. Bournemouth
    16. Newcastle
    17. Watford
    18. Brighton
    19. Huddersfield
    20. Cardiff (pains me to say that)

Top two looks likely to be the two I've put. Stable atmospheres. I think we will come good, especially if Europa League is blanked early on. United I'm not sure on, but Mourinho's typical 3rd season syndrome looks to be taking effect. Spus have not freshened up their squad and will have some players like Alderweireld, Rose and Dembele who know they aren't appreciated if they end up staying.

Being a Cardiffian hurts to say they will be the most likely to be relegated. I could see any two from Hudd, Brighton, Watford & Newcastle going down although one of the other teams above could have a meltdown season.

Wolves, Everton and Fulham should do well with their ambitious activity in the market.

    It's back!!!

So yeah like I said no the fantrax what's app I reckon this is City's to lose again. I think we can give them a challenge but I feel we are still a player or two short on being consistent title contenders as well as dealing with the champo league etc... we were lucky last year that our front three really stepped up after Coutinho left and need them to stay fit for a large portion of the season again.

Chelsea are my dark horse to sneak a good finish. They are in the same place they were when Conte arrived where no one expected them to do much so they were able to win a bunch of games without the pressure to do well. I can see a similar thing happening here. As for that final champions league spot I keep going back and forth between Arsenal and Spurs. Spurs haven't improved their squad but it's not exactly weaker and all the guys know how to play together which is a big plus. Arsenal on the other hand have a squad I believe will be much more motivated and rejuvenated this year. Gonna give the edge to Arsenal right now. I don't believe Man U will make it because of the Jose third season syndrome (but who knows).

Mid table is always a toss up but Everton and West Ham should do well with the squads they now have. Burnley may feel the pinch of Europe again but who knows. Wolves and Fulham will probably be the great promotions stories and the rest should have solid but unspectacular seasons. Relegation is a bit tricky. I'm sold on Cardiff and Huddersfield as goners but that third team is up in the air for me. Toss up between Brighton and Bournemouth right now.

Re: Premier League 2018/19 Discussion Thread

The new season gets underway today. Hope Leicester beat Man Utd. Arsenal have a tough start against Man City. Hoping for a good result on Sunday.

    My predicted table

    1. Man City

Man City dominated the league last season and had a record breaking campaign. Man City look well placed to win back-to-back titles and be the first side to retain the PL title since Man Utd in 2009. It will be a much harder task this time around for Man City but they’ve kept their title winning squad. No key players were sold. They are the faves to win the league.

    2. Liverpool
Liverpool look much stronger this season. They’ve spent big money and made four top additions(Allison, Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri) and addressed their weak areas. They probably needed another centre half but they should do very well this season.
It could be their year. No more excuses for Klopp as he has to deliver a trophy with this squad as they’ve spent as much as City and Utd over the past two/three seasons. Liverpool should be challenging for the title and anything less than top two would be a disappointing league campaign. I really hope they win the league.

    3. Chelsea
Difficult to predict how the other four big teams will do. Chelsea have a new manager and I think Sarri will do well. They replaced Courtois with Kepa. World record fee for a GK, just madness. Broken twice in one window. Jorginho and Kovacevic will improve Chelsea but they didn’t sort out their striker issue. Morata, Giroud and Abraham will be up front. Batshuayi has just gone out on loan again and they are light up front but they should be able to make the top 4.

    4. Man Utd
Man Utd didn’t have a good window. They may struggle because of Mourinho’s third season syndrome. They really needed to improve their defence but they are strong in midfield and attack. Fred should be a top signing. Would love to see them drop out of the top 4 but they will probably make it.

    5. Arsenal
A new era for Arsenal under our new manager Unai Emery. No expectations this season, will give him time. Would love to finish in the top 4 to get back into the CL but I think it will take time. We should do better than last season. Part of me feels very optimistic, don’t know why I think we may finish third or fourth. I’ll just go with the realistic option of 5th instead of 4th.

We need to get better defensively and improve our away form which cost us lots of points last season. We have strengthened the positions that were needed and got it done before the WC ended. Expecting to see some positives under Unai Emery. Very impressed with the signings we’ve made. However we needed another defender and winger. Hope we sort that out in the winter window.

    6. Tottenham
Spurs had a disastrous window. No signing lol. This tops the Arsenal Cech Window. Man City ran away with the league last season and finished 32 points ahead of Spurs. Are they mad thinking that they will mount a title challenge with no signings. They didn’t lose any key players but it seems like they are the most likely contenders to drop out of the top 4.

    7. Everton
    8. West Ham
    9. Leicester
    10. Wolves
    11. Crystal Palace
    12. Fulham
    13. Newcastle
    14. Burnley
    15. Southampton
    16. Watford
    17. Brighton
    18. Bournemouth
    19 Huddersfield
    20. Cardiff

Everton, West Ham and Leicester have had great windows, expecting them to finish in the top 10. Wolves and Fulham have gone mental in the window, very ambitious in the window. If their players gel and adapt quickly, both these teams might not be in a relegation battle. Think they’ll both do well. Good to see them back in the PL.
Palace will do well under Hodgson. Burnley may struggle as they have a EL campaign to deal with. Newcastle and Southampton will probably be fine and not involved in a relegation battle.

This time there isn’t a team who I want to see go down. Watford are usually tipped to go down but they manage to avoid the drop. Brighton could build on last season and might do well. I think Bournemouth will struggle. Huddersfield could suffer second season syndrome. Cardiff are the faves to down. Not impressed with the championship level signings that they’ve made. Warnock will probably be one of the faves to be sacked first as he’s a proper championship manager.

Re: Premier League 2018/19 Discussion Thread

Decent opening match to the season and probably just about the right result on balance. An iffy penalty to open the scoring, poor first control followed by a decent half volley for the second, then a silly third goal, Vardy won't get any easier this season haha.

Delighted for Shaw to finally get a goal, hopefully it'll give the lad a lot more confidence now. Pogba did well to last as long as he did considering he's had little pre-season but showed glimpses of what we know he can do. Fred did well, but was perhaps a little too eager at times, and Bailey showed why he's needed in the team...he just needs to sort those rash looking challenges.

On the flip side of that from a Man Utd point of view, despite being a menace Sanchez still needs to sort his final ball, Rashford looked lively at times but again showed his eagerness does get the better of him at times. No pace on the right of the three, and as good a player as Mata is, that really needs addressing.

Was an entertaining one for the opener for the season. United were the better team and deserved the win. Happy for Shaw to get a goal, so hopefully Jose will put a bit more faith in him now. It was a great finish after initially getting his touch wrong.

Leicester just lacked something going forward; I think Vardy should have started. They should have realised much sooner that putting the ball into the air wasn’t working because the crosses weren’t good enough and anything that did get in Bailly was dealing with. I think Chilwell had a great game at left back, he looked good coming forward for them.

Bit late to the party on this, but I’ll post my predicted league table anyway. I’ve fallen right off in terms of what’s going on lately. Just feels like everything has come around so soon after the World Cup. Only realised yesterday that Tadic had left Southampton.

    1. City
    2. Liverpool
    3. Arsenal
    4. Tottenham
    5. Man United
    6. Chelsea
    7. Everton
    8. West Ham
    9. Fulham
    10. Crystal Palace
    11. Leicester
    12. Wolves
    13. Burnley
    14. Brighton
    15. Bournemouth
    16. Southampton
    17. Newcastle
    18. Watford
    19. Huddersfield
    20. Cardiff

A lifetime supply of viagra couldn’t keep that Cardiff team up. They’ll do well to break double figures imo.

Delighted with the win Friday as I was fearing the worst to be totally honest. I loved that three-man combo of Pereira, Fred & Pogba. All three can play and move the ball around nicely and pick out a pass. Pogba was outstanding all things considered. Bailly an absolute monster and said above, he's the one you need to keep fit because he's truly one of the best in the league for me when he's fully fit and raring to go. Delighted for Shaw! Off the mark and a much needed confidence boost.

Only negative was down the right hand side with Mata & Darmian. Grey should have been used more because he had Darmian on toast pretty much. And off course the goal was a poor one to give away.

Ruben Neves showing his class once more! For that team he's quality. Wolves & Cardiff will be two other teams I'll be following this season for different reasons. On the subject of Cardiff tho I can't see anything but them coming back down. The squad just does not look good enough and even against Bournemouth they looked out of their depth. Early days.

Cardiff have pretty much planned for next season already with their signings. If they stay up it's massive, if they go down they'll be well set due to what they have in place, win/win for them really.

Re: Premier League 2018/19 Discussion Thread

I haven’t been this excited for an Arsenal match in many years. A new era so I'm hoping we get a positive performance/result at home in our first match of the new season. The official start of the post Wenger era as it’s our first competitive game. Unai Emery has a big job in front of him and it depends how long it will take for his team to gel/improve.

Will be such a difficult month for Arsenal as they play Man City, Chelsea and West Ham this month. Liverpool just thrashed the Hammers 4-0 so hopefully Arsenal get a great result against West Ham. We looked good in pre-season. Such a difficult start for Arsenal. We’re up against the champions who dominated the league last season. They defeated Arsenal three times and in all of these games, they put three goals past us. Man City beat Chelsea in the Community Shield last week. The quality and depth City have is incredible.

The result will depend on our defence performance. Our defence still looks vulnerable. Our starting line up looks good. Disappointed that Torreira is on the bench but he should be fit for the Chelsea game. Happy to see Guendouzi start. Wanted to see Lacazette and Leno start. Hopefully Emery plays Laca and Auba together in the next game.

Result may not be so important in this match but we need a very good performance as we struggle in big matches. I’d love a win but I’ll take a draw at this point. My heart says it’s going to be a score draw. Realistically I think it will be a 2-0 win for Man City. Hope I’m wrong, COYG. Let the new era begin with a win for us.

My Cardiff fan friends are basically saying the same.

I understand it, but for me, they defied the odds by getting up their last season. No guarantee it will happen again. Now you're there, have a go! I think if they could survive the first season, they would be a mainstay in the Prem for a while.

Hopefully I'll go to a couple of games this season.

Re: Premier League 2018/19 Discussion Thread

Going to take a while for Emery to get this team clicking.

Quite surprised to see that kid start in the midfield, brave choice. Expecting a good season from Auba & Miki too!

City carrying on where they left off, scary.
    Prepare for the.. BACKLASH!
