WWE NXT WWE NXT Discussion - July 11, 2018

    WWE NXT Preview
    July 11, 2018

Moustache Mountain and Undisputed ERA collide in NXT Tag Team Title rematch

Following their NXT Tag Team Championship victory that had the world talking, Moustache Mountain will defend their newly won titles for the first time against the team they bested to obtain them: Undisputed ERA. Wasting no time invoking their rematch clause, Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly will take on Tyler Bate & Trent Seven next Wednesday on WWE NXT. Commenting on the upcoming title defense, Bate & Seven were clearly not too pleased after Undisputed ERA accused them of being flukes and jokes after their victory at the NXT U.K. Championship special. The duo also seemed delighted by the idea of defeating Strong & O’Reilly in the States after beating them in their home country of England.

Will Bate & Seven silence Undisputed ERA by defeating them in this high-stakes rematch? Or will Undisputed ERA become only the second team in NXT history to capture the NXT Tag Team Titles twice? Find out tonight on WWE NXT.

NXT Champion Aleister Black appears live on black-and-yellow brand

Now that Aleister Black will defend his NXT Championship against Tommaso Ciampa on July 25, The Dutch Destroyer will appear live on WWE NXT to address his hotly anticipated showdown against The Blackheart.

With tempers flaring between the Superstars on social media and during their June 27 confrontation on WWE NXT, what will Black have to say as he approaches perhaps the most unpredictable title defense of his reign? And could The Blackheart make his presence felt, forcing Black to once again come face-to-face with the self-proclaimed “devil”?

Adam Cole and Danny Burch battle it out for their respective squadrons

Though Danny Burch’s tag team partner Oney Lorcan is on the shelf due to an injury suffered at TakeOver: Chicago II (Burch told Cathy Kelley that Lorcan is looking at three months on the sideline), the British Superstar did not back down when Undisputed ERA attempted to shame him in the wake of Burch & Lorcan’s loss to Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly in Chi-Town. NXT North American Champion Adam Cole took offense to Burch reminding Undisputed ERA of their own recent struggles (including Strong & O’Reilly’s NXT Tag Team Title loss in London and Burch pinning O’Reilly in six-man tag team action weeks back), and he accused Burch & Lorcan of having inflated egos. That prompted Burch to challenge The Panama City Playboy to a match, and though Cole scoffed at the suggestion, NXT General Manager William Regal did not, scheduling the match for next week. Will Cole’s cockiness come back to bite him against the hard-hitting Burch? Tune in tonight to the award-winning WWE Network to find out.

Sane and Borne take their war of words to the ring

After Vanessa Borne called out Kairi Sane two weeks ago, Sane came right back at Borne, telling reporters that Vanessa should focus less on talking and more on fighting. She’ll get her chance next week, as the two NXT standouts will square off. With both Superstars looking to build a claim to an NXT Women’s Title opportunity, a win in this bout will be crucial. Who will prevail? Find out tonight.

    Pretty loaded show
I imagine Undisputed Era will win back the tag titles, now that they are state side again

The Moustache Mountain vs Undisputed ERA match looks good. If it tops their previous match, this should be something special. Will be interesting to see if Trent Seven's injured leg will play a factor here or not. With Strong and O'Reilly in there, I do.

The other matches look okay. Don't expect much from them to be totally truthful. Probably some story progression.

That main event fucking ruled. Probably my new favorite tag match on the year.

This was a fairly good episode of NXT.

I liked the continued focus on the women's division, which was in need of some work just a few weeks back. We're starting to see feuds and a hierarchy shape out now. I personally would rather see Belair or Sane win the number one contendership at this time, but my gut tells me it'll be Candice LeRae.

I didn't really like Cole vs. Burch as much as I thought I would. Pretty bland honestly. Moustache Mountain vs. TUE kicked ass though. But the throwing in the towel thing is one of my least favorite bits in wrestling, just because of how rarely and randomly it's used. I still gotta say Burch/Lorcan vs. TUE was better but this was killer as well.

I can't believe Black is defending the belt against Ciampa next week. Should be an epic bout. I really don't know what to expect either. I'm thinking a shady finish of some kind and a rematch later on down the road. I'm looking forward to it and I'm hoping it goes down as one of Black's premiere matches.

Takeover level main event. I loved that even more than the UK title switch. This had everything, fun brawl to start, a huge face in peril performance from Seven, a great hot tag from Tyler, two dickhead heels and a perfect finish with the towel spot with Tyler wanting to save his mentor. I love how ruthless Kyle and Roddy were in going for Trent's injury like sharks smelling blood in the water, they were hell bent on righting the wrong from losing in the UK. I feel bad for Bobby Fish, but Kyle and Roddy have gelled brilliantly as a team and they are going to be contenders for tag team of the year for sure when 2018 is over. Takeover Brooklyn blowoff please.

Have to admit, I watched it live last night and I liked it but I never thought highly of it at the time but then everyone started to buzz about the match and I re-watched it and I can totally see what the hype is now. Tremendous match. The viciousness as well as the urgency showed by Strong and KOR when putting on the submissions was awesome. Relentless. I knew that leg would've been used some how and they incorporated it very well done. Bate selling of concern mixed with Seven's stubbornness to continue was great development for their characters. Awesome match. It's not one of the favourite tag matches of the year, just outside my top five but it's my WWE MOTY, no doubt.

A couple of thoughts from this episode of NXT:

    - I just can't seem to get excited for Adam Cole. I love the Undisputed Era as a stable but when it's just Adam Cole by himself I just don't see much from him. I'm not getting that mega heel vibe from him and I don't feel like he'd be huge as a babyface. I guess I've gotta give him more of a chance because his work in ROH was...decent...butI'm just not sold on him as the North American Champion and/or the leader of Undisputed Era.

    - The segment between Candice and Shayna was good but don't insult my intelligence lol Shayna would eat Candice up in a straight-up fight/ backstage brawl. I'm definitely wanting to see a match between the two because just like her husband, Candice just makes it so damn hard not to root for her and makes it hard to hate her. She's just so cute and innocent.

    - Stop trying to make Kairi Sane happen. Just stop.

    - Tommaso Ciampa is the heel we needed in professional wrestling. They are building him up strong and they've got me bought into a feud between him in Aleister. These two have sold that feud on social media (something MORE wrestlers need to do), and then the attack was just perfect. IF they go with Ciampa winning the title and then having a triple threat at Takeover between Ciampa/Black/Gargano, I'd be on the edge of my freaking seat!

    - That main event! I would be depressed as hell if they called me up to the main roster as a tag-team because I would instantly know that my days of being showcased and getting to have consistent great matches would be pretty much over. This match had great storytelling, it had great wrestling, and that ending had me wanting more out of this feud.

You can always count on Triple H run shows being good.

I'm with you on all of your points except Kairi Sane. I will admit her run so far has been very forgettable but I strongly believe she can flourish with better booking.

I wasn't impressed with her in the May Young Classic either though. I'm gonna check out some of her non-WWE matches to try and get into her because I want to give her a chance but then again...I'm just done with WWE trying to make her happen. The gimmick is too much, her wrestling looks like it has potential but...I'm just not seeing it.

I totally get it, don't get me wrong. I'm usually frustrated by her matches because I get the sense they could be a lot better, and I don't really care for her signature moves at all so every time she goes through the whole spear/elbow smash sequence I'm pretty unmoved by it. But based off what I've seen of her in Stardom, she can really go, and just needs to booking and focus to make it happen. I think putting her against women like Sasha, Charlotte and Asuka would result in some really good matches.
