It's nice that this promotional picture can double as Joaquin's passport photo.

In all seriousness, I like that it's the opposite in almost every single way to that first look at Leto's Joker.

Something different from Phoenix's Joker is something I look forward to. The more and more I see him with his facial expressions why didn't they hire him sooner.

I’ll watch anything with The Joaq in it.

DDL’s my all time fav but Phoenix should’ve won for The Master.

    The Joaquer.

I'm liking the simplistic look of this interpretation. I'm not that interested in some live action Killing Joke, but an apparently King of Comedy/Taxi Driver-esque origin story? Sign me up. I don't care if Batman's not even in it.

In those pictures it makes a lot more sense. Better than over the top Joker. I like the different angle to it.

Some people are saying this isn't the final look and why would they show us his look in the Makeup this early I'm I right? Anyways the Makeup looks okay, but that moment you see him stop smiling and getting serious with the right lighting man this could work.

It seems The Joker is in the Subway causing chaos like only he can.

Gotta be honest wasn't sure about this movie when I first heard it announced. Same time seeing the images of Phoenix with the make up on. Has hyped me up a bit.

Gotta be honest, I don't like it and don't understand why every director that has ever brought the character to film wants to take such drastic liberties with the characters look.

Can't co-sign on that one fam. Less John Wayne Gacy and more "The Man Who Laughs". Ledger already wore a Gacy inspired mask at the beginning of The Dark Knight, we're good.

And maybe it isn't totally terrible, but to me it's the same thing that happened with Jared Leto. Phoenix, like Leto, absolutely looks like someone that SHOULD play the Joker but the end result is spoiled by the directors need to express themselves through their wickedly edgy take on an iconic character. Or whatever else the case may be.

    Re: Joker Origin Movie (TBA)

It's an adaptation at the end of the day, and what killed Leto's Joker for me was an annoying performance and a storyline with Harley that I couldn't buy into whatsoever, not so much the look.

To me, all The Joker needs to be is a criminal mastermind clown with green hair and a suit. Everything else is open to an actor/writer/director's spin on it. Joaquin's look is whatever to me, but then again, I could happily go most of the movie watching just Arthur Fleck if it's a good character and performance, where he only becomes The Joker in the last act.

Actually, the mask Ledger wears at the beginning of The Dark Knight is an homage to Cesar Romero's Joker from the Batman television show. It's basically exactly the same as one he wore in an episode where he was acting in an opera. That being said, I can see how it can also be construed as a reference to Gacy.

Otherwise I have to agree that I'm not feeling the stylistic choices at this point but I'm still cautiously optimistic that Phoenix's sheer talent will rise above them.
